A Distant Shot is an exciting period piece drama that we plan to shoot in Prague on 35mm film this summer. Our short film is about how a defining moment can affect a family, a country, and one man's lifetime seen through the eyes of a Czechoslovakian track runner on the day of the biggest race of his life.
If you make a pledge, we get closer to our fundraising goal. If we don't make the goal by Friday May 10th at 8PM, we don't get anything and you won't get charged. But, if we do make the goal (or exceed it) within the time limit, we receive the money and can make movie magic!

Partnership with F.A.M.U. (The Czech Film and TV Academy of the Performing Arts)
We will be working with F.A.M.U. students, who are some of the most experienced and talented student filmmakers in the world.
Barrandov is the Czech equivalent of Paramount Pictures and allows rentals to the public at the same rates they give major motion pictures. This will give us access to authentic period piece costumes, props, and vehicles at bargain prices.
A dollar in the Czech Republic goes a lot further towards filming than it ever could in the U.S.
We'll have access to unparallelled resources in terms of 35mm film cameras, equipment, locations, first class post-production facilities, and local talent (actors and crew).
- Rent the lens and lighting kit for our 35mm film camera
- Work with talented Czech actors
- Hire highly skilled crew ensuring picture and sound quality
- Afford authentic period piece locations, wardrobe, and props
- Transport and feed our cast and crew on set
- Cover the costs of composing and recording the soundtrack
- Pay for post production services (including editing, sound mixing, SFX etc.)
Risks and challenges
Shooting on Film
We increasingly live in a digital world, so working with traditional film isn’t second nature (and it’s EXPENSIVE). Thankfully we have a top notch crew who is well versed in the film medium.
Not only do we have the costs of our Kickstarter campaign itself, but we'll have to convert our funds from dollars to Czech Crowns. Nobody can predict which way our two currencies will move but thankfully the exchange rate is very favorable at this time.
Language barriers and Trans-Atlantic business dealings
Half of our crew is American. But, most have lived or studied abroad for some period of time. Our Director speaks basic Czech and the whole team is up for an adventure!
Staying within our budget
We've prepared a detailed budget accounting for every possible expense we could incur to make sure we are filming within our means. In addition, our talented Producer will be making sure we stay on track.
