You’ve heard of The Bachelor®. You’ve seen The Bachelorette®. Now meet The Mutt®!
Every day too many perfectly adoptable dogs are euthanized in shelters across America, because they aren’t placed in loving homes. These furry, wet-nosed, tufty-pawed, bottomless-pits-of-love are at the mercy of time. And humans.
But what if all that changed?! What if some of these beautiful creatures were able to pick their human? What if they were put in charge of their destiny?!
What is The Mutt?
The Mutt is a TV documentary/reality series modeled after some famous dating shows. But this time a shelter dog will choose its new owner from three human contestants. Through a series of challenges and activities, the humans will be tested to see who has what it takes to be a good companion and friend to The Mutt. Since animal adoption is serious business, we’ll mix the fun with education. From games in the park, to managing aggression, to daily care; every episode will teach us how to master canine/human relations.
The host of the show, Louisa Morrissey, is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and member of Victoria Stilwell's Positively Dog TrainingTM global network of professional dog trainers. She’ll travel throughout the US and select an abandoned dog from a shelter. Louisa will be the dog’s assistant in screening potential humans, mediating and translating a human’s ‘blah, blah, blah’ into what a dog really needs to see and hear. Viewers will be trained as well through valuable tips in every episode.
The show will find an owner for a different, homeless Mutt each week and spotlight a different shelter. The human candidates will be selected from areas across the US and could include you! Since this show will combine fun with education, we’ll be sure to provide a wide variety of personalities: the young kid who wants to play all day, the urban professional who requires obedience and clean paws, the elderly retiree with endless hours of free time but limited energy. Every slice of life will be represented so that the series is realistic as well as highly entertaining.

In every episode of The Mutt, we go into a shelter or kennel somewhere in the USA to find a lovable canine. The tables are turned when that lucky dog gets to pick its new owner from three human suitors. By virtue of The Mutt's format and content it will:
- Improve the human/canine relations of viewers by learning from a certified professional dog trainer what dogs really need from their humans!
- Get millions of viewers thinking about adopting their next pet from a local shelter or kennel!
- Get its audience thinking there is probably a shelter in their area that has animals who need love and attention (cats, birds, exotics, and yes.., even mutts).

Risks and challenges
There are no guarantees in the television industry. The hardest thing to do is to beg a network to fund your pilot project. The BEST WAY is to fund and create your own pilot and as many additional episodes as possible; then bring those finished products to the networks. That's the path we're choosing here with KICKSTARTER. And if we exceed our funding goals, we'll be able to produce more episodes! With your kind and generous support, you're enabling us to take the strongest path to production and distribution with this entertaining and educational family show about lucky rescued dogs who get to pick their owners!.
The Discovery Channel is always looking for documentary "reality TV" products to fill airtime for their Animal Planet series. We think you'll agree that this concept is right in line with what they do. And since our show will travel across the US encountering many different regional cultures and their unique beliefs about humans and canines, it will also be a strong candidate for the Travel Channel!

Reaching our funding goal of $45,000 will enable us to produce the pilot episode of The Mutt. The production costs include: script writing, location permissions, filming, editing, sound development, production and of course animal safety certification. When we go above and beyond this goal we will be able to also develop additional episodes. The more episodes we are able to create, the better our ability to find The Mutt a good network home!

James Barry, The Mutt Executive Producer
James Barry's background has a wide array of experience in professional production and all genres of the arts. He is also Owner and Executive Producer of DogHouse Productions (www.doghouseproductions.net). Mr. Barry trained with legendary acting coach, Harold Guskin, and has worked with William H. Macy and David Mamet in several stage productions in Chicago and New York City. He enjoyed success with two long-running musicals he wrote and scored in Chicago in addition to owning and operating an award-winning winery in upstate New York. He was a composer/producer for EMI Music Publishing UK producing Top 40 Hits while working with Simon Cowell at Arista Records in London which were featured in Top of The Pops on BBC Television. Now, along with a talented team of directors, cameramen, and sound technicians, this will be Mr. Barry's first entry into television as creator, writer, and Executive Producer of The Mutt. Louisa Morrissey, The Mutt Host
Louisa Morrissey is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and member of Victoria Stilwell's Positively Dog TrainingTM (www.positively.com) global network of professional dog trainers. She is the trainer for the Aspen Animal Shelter in Aspen, CO and also a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the Pet Professional Guild of Non-Force Trainers and a volunteer with Western Border Collie Rescue . She has been featured on several television shows and print articles. Louisa has years of experience in training all breeds, breed mixes, and ages of dogs, as well as their humans through her own training service High Country Dogs in Colorado (www.highcountrydogs.com). Her skills cover all topics from puppy basics, good manners, dog sports, anxiety and aggression. She is passionate about using positive, reinforcement-based training that cultivates a relationship of mutual respect and trust in a fun way!
DogHouse Productions (www.doghouseproductions.net) is led by James Barry whose success in stage and music production prepared him to lead this team to this project today. The larger DogHouse team is comprised of cameramen, lighting technicians, sound designers, producers and directors who have vast production experience with television from daily programming to national sports and National Geographic specials.
