Castle Game Jam provides a relaxed atmosphere which allows participants to experiment and exchange knowledge with a 120 hour jam. The attendees are generally made up of artists, musicians, programmers and others in game development related fields. All kinds of games can be created during game jams but the main focus of Castle Game Jam is primarily digital games for PC, mobile or consoles. Attendees come from all over the world, last year 21 countries were represented, the average age was 28 and only 54% came from Sweden where the event took place. The 2017 edition of Castle Game Jam is once again located in Örebro castle as it was such a beautiful place and it allows for us to focus to improve on other aspects of the event.
We find Örebro Castle on a small island in the river Svartån which runs through the heart of Örebro, situated in Sweden between Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo, Norway. With a total of almost 1,000 m2, divided between five rooms for participants, the castle will offer us everything we need while at the same time providing us with a historically interesting environment to further stimulate our creative capacity. Örebro is a city of roughly 100,000 inhabitants and offer a wide variety of i.e. food and activities. The castle is located close to the central train station, which you can reach easily by train or bus from many locations in Sweden. We will gladly help you find the best route for your trip to be able to join us.
In order to host this event we need to secure a certain funding to make the bookings and feel secure about everything going forward. Last year we sold out pretty quick but had a great deal of problems finding partners. In the end we got great partners such as Defold Engine, ELIAS and Epic Games. We are still talking with these partners, but them, like most of our other leads, can't commit until 2017, so we're dependant on financing the initial part of the event by selling tickets early.
We launched our tickets in the beginning of November via Eventbrite, we did however not have a great success with selling enough tickets. There's too many new variables compared to last year, so it's hard to pinpoint the exact reason. This Kickstarter is our last attempt to make Castle Game Jam 2017 happen. Should it fail, then we will refund all tickets and merch currently sold via Eventbrite.

Lectures & workshops
Like last year, we're planning on hosting a conference day with lectures and workshops. We decided to hold out on finalizing which speakers, because in the end more than 50% were dropped and replaced until the event. This will allow us to host polls on which subjects you wish for us to get speakers for, so it will be relevant for the people showing up.
We're going to direct a lot more focus on recording all the lectures and workshops so that we can publish them online afterwards for all who has a digital ticket, which is included in all physical tickets.
We are planning on hosting music acts in the castle just like last year before the award show while we're crunching numbers and preparing. We have not booked any acts yet.

Sleeping accommodation closes
New for this year is that we're including food into the ticket price from the get-go. Last year we aimed to provide it because we were very optimistic about the amount of partners we'd get onboard, so this year we're toning down on the optimism and instead fund food for everyone by increasing the ticket prices a bit. Outside of food, we're also providing free coffee & tea, accommodation and sleeping equipment. The sleeping equipment consist of air mattress, sleeping bag and a pillow.
The visitor tickets include the same perks as a game jam ticket, with the exception of a desk to work at. This means that if you're two people looking to share a desk to work, that's possible at a lower cost.
The digital tickets include access to the event's private streams and recordings of lectures & workshops posted online after the event.
Risks and challenges
The biggest concern for us is to find enough partners to bring the event to it's maximum level of quality. But we're pretty hopefull, if we manage to keep the partners from last year and add a few new ones to that, we should be fine.
