I'm Jake Parker and I'm collecting my daily drawings from my sketchbooks and projects into a beautifully printed full color perfect-bound book.
I love drawing, and I love sketchbooks.
The sketchbook is pure. It's the ground floor for ideas. There's no thought of how to market your idea, what the intended audience is, or how this idea could possibly ever work in reality. It's just raw, artistic reactions to what your brain is firing off at the moment, captured forever in pencil and ink.
I'll take any chance I can get to peek at other artist's sketchbooks, and I'm more than happy to share mine. It is in this spirit that the desire to print DRAWINGS came about.
For years I've collected my drawings in little books, but they've all been in black and white, and cheaply produced. DRAWINGS will be the largest collection of drawings I've ever printed, and the first in full color.
I'm taking raw scans and putting them right in the book. No Photoshop, no edits. Every ink stroke, pencil sketch, mess up, and correction will be preserved.
- At 7.5x9.5 inches, it will be exactly the same size as the sketchbooks I draw in every day.
- 100 full color pages of robots, spacemen, vehicles, spaceships, and more.
- Durable softcover matte lamination, sewn perfect bound.
I can't believe how fast we passed the original goal! Thank you so much for all the support so far. I want to make this book the best it can be and with more financial support I'll be able to do that. I also want to reward my backers even more, so I'm implementing the following stretch goals.
I've been hearing how much people like this image and I want to my backers to have it. For this first goal I thought that instead of being about money, it's about getting more people on board here. So, when DRAWINGS reaches 800 backers I'll include an exclusive Flower Robot print for all the $50 tiers and above. It's only available through this Kickstarter, so tell you friends and spread the word!
Since the last stretch goal was about rewarding the backers, this time it's about making the book better. DRAWINGS hit its #2 stretch goal and is getting an extra 28 pages added! THANK YOU so much for all the support.
All books and prints are signed and packed in plastic sheeting and heavy duty cardboard casing that should withstand even the bumpiest ride to your door. Domestic shipping is included in the price, however international backers must add $25* to cover shipping to your country (sorry Canada, you too).
*Tiers with extra prints and artwork are $26. The additional dollar covers the extra packing material like protective sleeves.
TWO NEW REWARD LEVELS: The Jake Parker Digital Sketchbook Collection!
All tiers at the $50 level and higher will get the Digital Sketchbook Collection added to their reward!
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my project. I love Kickstarter not just because it gives creatives like me of the opportunity to fulfill our dreams, but for the way it facilitates community. It connects creators with supporters unlike anything ever has. If you back this Kickstarter, you're not just helping a book get made, you're laying the groundwork for another creator to have a stable and independent career.

Risks and challenges
My last Kickstarter project, The Antler Boy and Other Stories, funded successfully and was delivered to backers with minimal problems. BUT there were some hiccups. I learned a lot from that experience and have taken steps to mitigate some of the challenges we faced in delivering that book as promised and on time.
Getting this book to you on schedule is my number one priority. I'll be taking measures to make sure the book is print ready before the campaign ends. This will allow me to deliver the files as soon as the 30 days are up which will, in turn, get the books back from the printers sooner. I've worked with this printer before and know exactly what they need from me, as well as what to expect from them.
And lastly, a note from the Head of Shipping at mrjakeparker.com, my wife Alison:
We would love to get this book out quickly to all our backers! However, in light of previous problems in the shipping department, I feel it necessary to make a few things clear. If you move to a new address in between the time we collect your information and the time we ship your book, please leave a forwarding address with your local post office. If you break up with your girlfriend, and you think there's a chance she may steal all your mail, please consider having it shipped to a safer address. If you're not quite sure what your address is, please don't guess. We cannot be responsible for your change of address, your angry roommates, or your own mental shortcomings. Thank you for your support!
OK I think that about sums it up. I'll add FAQs as they come up, below.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
