Six years ago students at Phillipsburg High School asked if we could run a comic-con at our school to help fund our school's comic elective courses. The kids meant it as a joke, but we did it anyway. We spent the entire year contacting guests, screening vendors, organizing floor plans, and preparing for kids activities. Their hard work allowed our low income community to attend an affordable show with an incredible guest lineup. What began as a fundraiser to benefit our school turned into a literacy event to benefit our community and charities.
This year, on May 11th, we are putting on our fifth annual comic-con, a show with over 50 writers and artists, all of whom donate their time to promote comic literacy and bring the classic comic-con feel to a community at an affordable price! Our guests his year include Fabian Nicieza, Walter Simonson, Louise Simonson, Heather Antos, Scott Hanna, Lee Weeks, Rags Morales, Steven T. Seagle and many, many more. However, with our success has come an additional challenge: as we have added more creators and minimized our vendor tables, our costs have grown. We are trying to raise at least $1500 of our remaining $3,000 to cover administrative costs - table rentals, guest transportation costs, staff shirts, volunteer food costs, advertising banners, and kids activity supplies - so that we can put on this show for our town.
Our past and current guests wanted to help the kids raise money, so we have unbelievable tiers - commissions, Skypes, and signed prints! You have an incredible opportunity to get some one of a kind items while helping bring the comic-con experience to a low-income community!
If, by chance, we blow past $1500 and bring over the $3,000 we need, additional funds will be banked to help with next year's show.

If you're a teacher, librarian, or comic book shop owner, then check out the Skype session we have available with Joe Kelly to discuss his work, the industry, and his stories. This will be at least 15 minutes long with him. Please note the Skype tiers were created specifically for educators, librarians, and shop owners/managers. If the creator feels misled or uncomfortable, they have the right to end the session early with no refund.
For Businesses and Organizations:
If you're a member of a business or organization that would like to donate, there's a $250 tier for you as well that will get your logo (as long as it's appropriate) on our website and flyer that we distribute to attendees of the show, as well as a hand written thank you from the students.
If you want multiple items, or have any questions about what your total pledge should be, don't hesitate to send us a message. We're happy to help and make sure you get exactly what you're looking for
Risks and challenges
We have run the show for 4 years - the venue and tables are reserved, the guests and vendors are booked, and the volunteers have already signed up. Our biggest challenge is getting the funding to put on a show with the most guests yet!
Estimated dates for any tiers with creator rewards may be delayed due to creators' schedules.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
