JACKS’ first experiment in the creation of an evening-length work, Table of Contents is a non-linear, chance-based duet investigating chapters of captured moments, invented stories based on underlying truths, and familiar memories. Movement enters into rich theatricality and quickly departs - an experience akin to “changing TV channels to different cartoons.” Currently in development, the work is made up of 10+ movement sections or chapters, appearing as a compilation of vignettes. An order of events is randomly selected prior to every rehearsal and showing, rendering each iteration of the work fleeting and unique.
Rehearsal - 1.5.18
After experiencing Table of Contents as it exists for the stage, JACKS is embarking on the film iteration of this work. Kelsey and Lexie have hired an art director, cinematographer, sound designer, and photographer to fully realize the work for the screen. Filming will take place throughout Berkshire County, Massachusetts THIS July 2018.
As new collaborators, Kelsey and Lexie have dreamed up a process for creation, in which film and dance go hand in hand. In this work, and for the future of JACKS' creative process, we've committed to making work that appears on stage and is transformed into dance film (or the other way around). Whether that means the film comes first and work for stage comes second, or a film is inspired by our latest stage work - we want to continue this process long into JACKS' collaborative process. Help us get our feet wet and develop our FIRST film alongside our stage work Table of Contents.

where the money goes
Well, plain and simple we want to pay our incredibly talented collaborators for their time and creative juices. Over half of our budget is for artist fees and equipment. As for the rest, we need funds for travel to the Berkshires, costuming/props, and for the premiere party in September (you're invited!).

other ways to give
We are thrilled to accept any of the following in lieu of a cash donation:
- Lodging in Berkshire County in early July (5 people)
- Event space in NYC/Brooklyn for the premiere in September
- Love/shares on social media and email :)
This work was created with the incredible support of Cora Dance in Red Hook, Brooklyn, and was presented at Fertile Ground/Green Space (Queens), and Open Performance/Eden's Expressway (Soho), and will be shown at WAXworks/Triskelion (Brooklyn) in June 2018.
about us (Kels & Lex)
IT ALL STARTED WHEN...
Kelsey Kramer and Lexie Thrash met as undergraduate dancers at James Madison University (JMU) in 2012 and immediately connected as both performers and humans. During their overlapping college years, Kelsey and Lexie explored choreography separately, but always found avenues to collaborate as movers/makers. After several years of “we should...” and “what if we…,” the duo proudly premiered work in July 2017 at SITUATIONS Gallery in Chinatown as a part of Streamers.
WHAT WE DO...
JACKS is a moving, making duo committed to investigative movement experiences, meaningful processes, and telling the truth. Our ongoing process is a gateway to authentic experiences for performers and onlookers. Our work is meaty, kooky, and connected. Let's find stuff out together.
We love questions, so feel free to ask! And thanks for considering our FIRST Kickstarter project :)
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge will be timing. We are hoping to film in July and produce the video by end of August in an effort to tell our story as soon as we possibly can.
However, we may run into production delays along the way. With our stellar collaborators with years of experience in film and production, we are crossing our fingers that we can confidently produce 'Table of Contents' with a premier in September!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
