You might be thinking, "You have the watch, you have a brand, and you're already sold in stores; why do you need Kickstarter?"
With the growth of our brand over the past year, we have added many fans. This project was always on our mind, but once we started hearing others asking for it, we knew it had to happen. Instead of taking it to our usual channels, we wanted to bring it directly to our customers and fans. This is the unfiltered and fully-equipped realization of our dream dive watch. Kickstarter was an obvious choice when considering the watch community following it has. So many brands and watches have gotten their starts here and we knew if anyone could understand the authenticity of what we're offering it would be the Kickstarter community.
For those of you who don't know us, Jack Mason was founded in Dallas, Texas by a pair of friends who shared a passion for making best in class product. With over 25 years of combined retail experience in the retail industry, the duo decided to finally take the leap and establish their own brand. In 2013, Jack Mason was launched with a collection of watch & leather goods that combined classic Americana influences with contemporary design. While the brand continues to evolve, the mission to bridge the divide between thoughtful design and attainable goods remains. As a part of that mission we bring you this:
This is the JM-D103. The next evolution of the original Jack Mason case and one of our most technical and tricked out pieces to date.
Out of all the watches in the world the diver has always been the most iconic; a true tool watch worn by explorers, adventurers, and even James Bond. The sea itself has always had a special relationship with the wanderings of man and we seek to encapsulate that romance here with our entry into the dive category.
If you talk to most any self-professed "watch nerd," chances are they own a dive watch or have one on their list of future purchases. From our fans, the dive watch has been one of the most requested extensions to the collection. The JM-D103 started as a passion project, became an experiment in design language, and resulted in what you see here.
The diver is the last missing pillar in our pantheon of watch categories. A robust, sea-ready watch with rugged good looks; all with a price tag too good to just add it to your wish list.
The JM-D103 combines the Jack Mason DNA we've built up over the past year with all the rich heritage of the divers that came before us. The greats earned their titles for a reason, and we'd be foolish not to follow their lead. Our diver is built to keep up with the best divers under the water and styled to tackle your desk dives and your black-tie life back on shore.
For Kickstarter, we're offering our diver in two options:
We've considered the details you forgot to think about: We engineered the watch to have a 5 ATM water resistance even with the crown unscrewed. No unfortunate accidents here. The indexes are filled with Super Luminova instead of just printed giving you extra brightness and a longer lasting charge. Need to go from beach side to board room? The rubber strap has our standard quick release pins to make switching straps easy and fast. The Japanese Miyota 821A is one of the most well-known and dependable Japanese automatic movements in the industry, keeping you on time day in and day out with no need to change any batteries or plug it in.
We believe anything worth doing is worth doing right; so, when we created the JM-D103 we knew it had to be put to the test. That's where our friends Lia Barrett (Lia Barrett Photography) and Jeffrey Honda (Jeffrey Honda Photography) came in. They put the JM-D103 to the test off the coast of the Hawaiian and Cayman Islands and managed to snap some awesome pictures and video in the meantime.
At Jack Mason, everything starts with design and this project was no different. The devil is in the details so we take the time to iron them all out until what we see on the page is what shows up in your hands. No surprises, no corners cut, no stone left unturned.
Risks and challenges
We're getting to be old pros at making watches, but there's always challenges when manufacturing product en masse.
Once the project is funded our biggest looming challenge will be production. While everything is completely lined up in our supply chain, there is always potential for a delay or unforeseen change in schedule. We will keep you, the backers, as up to date as we can throughout the entire manufacturing process.
You may have noticed that almost every reward is limited. This is to protect us and to protect the value in your limited-edition purchase. This way, we don't get committed to making 10,000 watches and you don't end up with edition 5734 of 10,000. We want this to go off without a hitch and we want you to feel how special and rare the product you're paying for is.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
