Luxury and planet awareness can be one in the same, and all it takes is a step in the right direction.
Being aware of the environment is crucial to the maintenance of our planet; our home. This awareness is a choice- a part of some lives, and not others. I'd like to set the stage with my first collection, by taking an initiative toward a "planet-friendly" world. It's not a complete change of lifestyle; this initiative is simply one step toward a more natural existence- a partnership with the earth. Getting one step closer to our roots should be a part of every single person's life, and it shouldn't have to be achieved by making sacrifices.
This womenswear collection, "Crunch", is inspired by insects. Specifically, taking interest in their natural protective barrier- their rigid exterior which hides and protects a soft interior. The progression of the collection tells the story of an insect emerging from it's shell, and transforming into a beautiful soft winged creature. Elements of this are found in the design, as well as digital prints of original fabric designs that mimic textures found in the insect world.
"Crunch" is being created with an "eco" undertone. All fabrics used have been sourced locally, with the majority donated by suppliers in conjunction with the Cittadellarte foundation. The Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto is a non- profit organization that works to improve ethical and sustainable conditions, and influence our social system through art, eduction, ecology, economics, politics, architecture, fashion, food, and more. Fabrics printed for "Crunch" are all printed locally in Como, Italy. Fish leather is to be purchased from Atlantic Leather, an eco-friendly manufacturer who uses by-product fish skins, left over from food production.
This is my first collection, and my thesis project for the Fashion Institute of Technology at Politecnico di Milano. My goal is to create a collection with 7 looks. Those looks are chosen from my portfolio, which I completed last semester (Check out the photos). They are not exactly the same (this is a runway show! They have some more "oomph" now), but have been based on these designs.
Although many fabrics have been donated for this collection, there are many other costs involved. I am seeking help from all of you for the cost of mock-up fabric (practice garments), patterning/sewing supplies, printing, fabric pleating, and shoes.
Thank you so much for your time, interest, and support!
Any donation is much appreciated. On Kickstarter, if the whole project isn't funded (if we don't meet the goal in time), the project doesn't receive any funding. So, good luck to us (in bocca al lupo)!
