LEARN HOW TO PLAY HANAFUDA GAMES
Want to learn how to play hanafuda games? Hanafuda Games is an indepth, 236-page, 37-games, full-color, hanafuda rulebook.
Available as an Add-on at a special Kickstarter price (up to $15 off retail and free shipping worldwide)! Learn more about the rulebook below!
*Note: The Sensu Edition of the Hanafuda Games rulebook has the same text content as our Hanami Edition. The Sensu Edition features the art of the Sensu deck series.
Our Hanafuda deck is a poker-sized pipless deck that features floral motifs and symbolism-rich imagery inspired by traditional Japanese hanafuda.
What is hanafuda? Hanafuda (known in Korea as ‘Hwatu’) are floral-themed playing cards that are popular in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii.
Hanafuda decks have 12 suits. Each suit is represented by a month of the year (e.g. June) and each month is represented by a flower (e.g. peony).
Hanafuda can be used to play numerous games, including traditional classics such as Koi-Koi, Hachi-Hachi (88), Go-Stop, and many more.
Hanafuda are typically smaller and thicker than Western playing cards, however, the Sensu Hanafuda deck uses standard poker-sized cards.
Our Fusion deck combines standard poker indices, hanafuda imagery, and custom-designed hanafuda indices into a multipurpose deck that can be used to play both Eastern and Western games.
Our hanafuda indices indicate the flower, month, and type of each card. We created these helpful indices to make the Fusion deck a great way to learn and teach hanafuda.
Organized into categories by type and difficulty, this step-by-step rulebook includes intuitive scoring samples, visual references, numerous variants, gameplay samples, and quick reference charts.

What others have said about our Hanafuda Games rulebook:
Why was our book created? Given the popularity, long history, and wide geographical range of hanafuda cards, there have been many games invented over the years. Unfortunately, rules for hanafuda games can be difficult to find and interpret. Our rulebook gathers the rules into a single clearly written source that makes them easily accessible to players.
What does our book contain? Our rulebook contains an in-depth collection of 37 games. Organized into categories by type and difficulty, this step-by-step rulebook includes intuitive scoring samples, visual references, numerous game variants, gameplay samples, and quick reference charts.
How is our book organized? Our book is arranged into five Sections: Capture Games, Sequence Games, Luck Games, Fusion Games, and Quick Reference Charts. Within these sections, the games are organized (and color-coded) by difficulty.
Hanafuda Games includes the following 37 Games:

How do I add an Add-on to my pledge?
To purchase Add-ons, simply select your pledge tier and increase your existing pledge amount to include the amount of your base reward plus your chosen Add-on(s).
Pledge Amount = Pledge Tier + Shipping + Add-ons.
For example, a U.S. backer at the Two Decks tier would pledge $26 + $6 + $35, for a total pledge of $67 to receive 2 decks and a rulebook.
For your convenience, we have created a Pledge Calculator. Once you have determined your pledge amount, pledge that amount in the appropriate pledge tier.
- Determine your total Pledge Amount. You can easily calculate your Pledge Amount using our Pledge Calculator.
- If you have already pledged, press the 'Manage Your Pledge' button. If you have not yet pledged, press the 'Back This Project' button and select your appropriate pledge tier.
- Type in your total pledge amount in the Pledge Amount box.
Once the Kickstarter campaign has funded you will receive a survey where you can let us know which Add-ons you chose.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
Available as an add-on at a special Kickstarter price.

Risks and challenges
This will be our third successful Kickstarter project. We are working with the same respected printing and fulfillment companies as with our successful Hanami project.
That said, all projects have inherent risks. We have gained experience with our previous projects, done our research, and have planned for common issues. While this will minimize any issues that we may encounter, problems can still occur. IndianWolf Studios LLC will do its best to resolve any issues that may come our way.
As backers ourselves, we understand the importance of communication and will keep you updated about any problems or delays that occur.
We are committed to making this work as we have many future projects that depend on the support of backers like you.
PROJECT STATUS AND FULFILLMENT
We are 99% done with the art & design. We can begin manufacturing as soon as the project completes and the backer surveys are completed.
We will be using the same reliable manufacturing and fulfillment partners as our previous successful campaign. However, given the complexity of manufacturing and world-wide distribution, delays can occur.
We are conservative with our shipping estimates. Our first project delivered far ahead of schedule. Our second project’s rulebooks were also shipped ahead of schedule. There was a minor delay during deck manufacturing that delayed the shipment of the decks, however we were open and communicative to our backers and the project was delivered with minimal delay.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Images shown in this Kickstarter are prototypes and mockups.
By pledging to the project, you acknowledge that the final product, including appearance, materials, and other content, exclusivity, and availability, are subject to change and may differ from what was presented while the Kickstarter was active.
This is a process, not a pre-order, all sales are final once the Kickstarter campaign has ended. However, we understand that things happen, so contact us if you have any problems and we will see what we can do.
It is your responsibility to provide us with a correct address in a timely manner, to ensure that the provided address is deliverable by normal methods and standard regional postal services, and that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment. Further, you agree, that you are responsible for import duties or any other duties, taxes, or fees that may be payable to complete delivery of your items.
If you do not confirm your pledge within 4 weeks of our notification via email to confirm your pledge, you agree that we have fulfilled our obligations to you in full for payment or donations received. However, we may, at our discretion, refund (minus Kickstarter fees) or ship your pledge if you contact us and confirm your pledge after the 4 week window has elapsed. All pledges which are finalized after the deadline (i.e. late) will ship from the United States, and will incur additional shipping costs and delays depending on your location.
Thank you for your understanding.
