Hanafuda Games Rulebook
In-depth collection of 32 games, including popular games such as Koi-Koi, Go-Stop, Hachi-Hachi, and many more.
Hanafuda (known in Korea as 'Hwatu') are floral-themed playing cards that are rich in symbolism and popular in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii.
Hanafuda cards have 12 suits. Each suit is represented by a month (e.g. June) of the year and each month is represented by a flower (e.g. Peony).
Hanafuda are typically smaller and thicker than Western playing cards, however, the Hanami Hanafuda deck uses standard poker-sized cards.
Each month of the Hanami Hanafuda deck is designed to form a tetraptych.
The Hanami Fusion decks are designed to combine the standard poker indices and hanafuda images into a multipurpose deck that can be used to play Eastern and Western games.
Hanami hanafuda indices were added to indicate the flower, month, and type of each card. These helpful indices make the Fusion deck a great way to learn & teach hanafuda.
Why was our book created?
Given the popularity, long history, and wide geographical range of hanafuda cards, there have been many games invented over the years. Unfortunately, rules for hanafuda games can be difficult to find and interpret. Our rulebook gathers the rules into a single clearly written source that makes them easily accessible to players.
What does our book contain?
Our rulebook contains an in-depth collection of 32 games. Organized into categories by type and difficulty, this step-by-step rulebook includes intuitive scoring samples, visual references, numerous game variants, gameplay samples, and quick reference charts.
How is our book organized?
Our book is arranged into five Sections: Capture Games, Sequence Games, Luck Games, Fusion Solitaire Games, and Quick Reference Charts. Within these sections the games are organized (and color-coded) by difficulty.
Section I: Capture games are the most popular hanafuda games and a great way to learn the deck. Capture games involve capturing cards from a field and creating special combinations of cards to score points.
Section II: Sequence games involve playing cards from your hand in sequential order with the objective to empty your hand. Sequence games are a great way to learn hanafuda month order. The Fusion deck is well-suited for playing Sequence games.
Section III: Luck games are simple, fast-paced, gambling-oriented games. Many of the games in this section were traditionally played with Kabufuda decks. These games are similar to Blackjack or Baccarat.
Section IV: Fusion Solitaire games are a collection of Western Solitaire games that have been modified for gameplay with a hanafuda deck. These games provide a familiar platform for Western players to become more comfortable with the hanafuda deck. The Fusion deck is well-suited for playing Solitaire games.
Section V: Quick Reference Charts are convenient references intended to aid players with scoring and yaku charts. These charts do not detail the rules for gameplay. Players should familiarize themselves with game before attempting to use the quick reference charts.

How do I add an Add-on to my pledge?
To purchase Add-ons, simply select your pledge tier and increase your existing pledge amount to include the amount of your base reward plus your chosen Add-On(s).
Pledge Amount = Pledge Tier + Shipping + Add-Ons.
For example, a U.S. backer at the Two Deck tier would pledge $29 + $16, for a total pledge of $45 to receive 2 decks and a digital rulebook.
For your convenience, we have created a Pledge Calculator. Once you have determined your pledge amount, pledge that amount in the appropriate pledge tier.
- Determine your total Pledge Amount. You can easily calculate your Pledge Amount using our Pledge Calculator.
- If you have already pledged, press the 'Manage Your Pledge' button. If you have not yet pledged, press the 'Back This Project' button and select your appropriate pledge tier.
- Type in your total pledge amount in the Pledge Amount box.
Once the Kickstarter campaign has funded you will receive a survey where you can let us know which add-ons you chose.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Risks and challenges
All projects have inherent risks, however, we have done our research and have planned for common issues. While this will minimize any issues that we may encounter, problems can still occur. IndianWolf Studios LLC will do its best to resolve any issues that may come our way.
As backers ourselves, we understand the importance of communication and will keep you updated about any problems or delays that occur.
We are committed to making this work as we have many future projects that depend on the support of backers like you.
PROJECT STATUS AND FULFILLMENT
We are 99% done with the art & design. We can begin manufacturing as soon as the project completes and the backer surveys are completed.
We've done our research and will be using reliable manufacturing and fulfillment partners. However, given the complexity of manufacturing and world-wide distribution, delays can occur.
We are conservative with our shipping estimates. Our previous project delivered far ahead of schedule.
