Hey ya'll! Some crazy and marvelous things went down this year. I recorded some kick ass songs and now I need your help to release my first EP.
In April I sent some demos around the USA, and it just so happened that GRAMMY award winning producer TOM BILLER (Warpaint, Kanye, Kate Nash) was like, into 'em!
YOU GUYS. I was totally incredulous. Jaw: to the floor. Having just completed my master's in Creative Writing the same month, I was working towards a career in teaching. I've been writing and performing songs for a decade but never thought anyone would take much interest. I guess I thought of it as a hobby. . . . Until now.
I remember my heart stopping when I looked down at my phone one day and it was Tom Biller calling me to say, "Let's make a record." Trying not to choke on my own surprise I was like, "Holy smokes, OK!" So I grabbed my guitar and my Casio, kidnapped my best friend and absurdly talented musician, Lucas Gorham, and together we journeyed to Los Angeles in May.
The plot thickens . . . . When we arrived at Tom's little studio nestled on a totally picturesque desert hill in Echo Park, he told us he was homies with session drummer MATT CHAMBERLAIN and that if we wanted we could catch Matt right before he left to tour Europe with Soundgarden. DUH! We said yes of course. Matt has played drums on amazing albums with Tori Amos, Brandi Carlile, Sarah McLachlan, David Bowie and The Wallflowers, just to name a few!
So suddenly there I was! Jamming with legendary Matt Chamberlain, Tom Biller at the board, my heart absolutely racing. To watch Matt transform my songs and fill them with so much wild, sophisticated energy was simply mind blowing—not to mention he is a total sweetheart and a super fun hang.
MY HECK. That was a dreamy two weeks in Los Angeles. I got to work full time on music every day, a thing I have never ever experienced. I sang and played my guts out y'all. Have never been so happy and so tired and so honored.
Soooo. Iva Dawn's first EP is almost complete! I poured all my savings into the recording phase. As of August, we're in final stages of mixing.
Now I need your help with the next phases: manufacturing the CD/vinyl and marketing it—an expensive process to undertake: 1,000 CD print run costs $1,500 dollars plus graphic design costs. 500 vinyl LPs, we are talking $2,000! The costs add up fast.
100% of MONEY RAISED GOES TOWARDS MANUFACTURING/MARKETING SO I CAN GET THESE TUNES INTO YOUR EARS!
My goal is to have my full EP—that’s six (6) songs —plus a bonus alternate version of “Peter”—mixed, mastered, printed, and ready for release by early 2015. To do that I need your help in any way possible!
Here’s how it works: when you contribute money, you get a digital download of the new EP, PLUS access to exclusive items like LIMITED EDITION VINYL and updates like pictures/videos, unreleased songs, outtakes and more. . . And depending on how much you are able to contribute, there are definitely some funky extra perks coming at ya'.
Thanks to Kickstarter, you can be a part of my first experience putting music out into the universe.
Can't wait to show y'all these tunes. Thanks for your support.
Risks and challenges
Here are a few things you should know:
- It's all or nothing. If the goal of $6,000 isn’t met, no money leaves your account and no rewards will be sent out.
- More money means I can put even more time into the production and marketing of the EP. Even if the goal is already met, you can still contribute and receive rewards!
The project is already in motion, your help will make it move faster, be the best it can be, and get it exposed to a wider audience. Not meeting my funding goal means that it'll take longer before you get to hear my music. I've waited long enough to share my new music with you, let's make it happen now!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
