The Hygiene Bank #ITSINTHEBAG Campaign
Hygiene poverty is a hidden yet very real problem throughout the UK, with over 14 million people affected in some way. 60% of those living in poverty are working families, and astonishingly, 4.5 million of those are children.
Imagine being expected to perform at your best when you haven't been able to shower, brush your teeth or use sanitary products. Imagine being asked to participate and join in at school, when no one will come near you because you smell. Imagine having to re-apply a used and dirty nappy on your baby because you can't afford a new one.
Hygiene poverty is a LOT closer than you think.
Our motivation is simple; to afford everyone their dignity. To do some good for those in our community who have less in this austerity-bitten country, where, not having enough is becoming the new normal.
To help the UK tackle this growing problem, we launched our #ITSINTHEBAG Campaign. An initiative that inspires individuals to donate personal care products and hygiene essentials to those desperately in need.
As part of this project, we have designed an invaluable bag that lives in the home. You gradually fill it with new and unused hygiene essentials, beauty and personal care products, then simply take it and empty it out at your local hygiene bank drop off point. The items you donate will be distributed out to women's refuges, hostels, social services, schools, children's centres and any organisation working to support those desperately in need.
Reuse your bag as many times as you like and continue making a difference to the lives of real people in your community.
We have one clear mission – to eradicate hygiene poverty in the UK.
To achieve this, we have two simple aims;
- To let as many people as possible know about our Hygiene Bank projects and drop off locations nationwide.
- With the help of our supporters, we want to reach more of these groups that deserve the dignity and basic essentials when life is already tough enough.
We need the support of your pledges to help fund the creation of our bags and get one in your home, and other homes around the UK. With this, we will be able to start changing the nation's behaviour, putting the fight against hygiene poverty at the forefront of our society.
If you wish to support those in need further, you can nominate one of your local schools to receive a bag, once our goal has been reached. These bags will live in school offices or pastoral care rooms and provide essentials to families or students that may need them, including personal care and sanitary items.
We passionately believe no one should be suffering from hygiene poverty in 21st Century Britain.
And with your help no-one has to.

Risks and challenges
If we hugely exceed our target and need 5000 bags for example, the print and distribution of orders may be slightly delayed. However, our logistics partners are experienced in handling large volumes, so we don't foresee this being an issue.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
