Nightwing: The Series is a 3 part mini-series centering around Batman's ex-sidekick, Robin.
Nightwing: The Series is a non-profit, 3 part mini-series that follows the adventures of Batman's ex-sidekick, Robin. After a falling out with his former mentor, Dick Grayson aka Robin leaves Gotham City in order to create his own identity in the city of Bludhaven. The series will delve a bit into Nightwing's origins and flesh out the character. We hope to pull in new fans as well as appease and excite existing fans.
In July 2012 Danny Shepherd and Jeremy Le shot, edited, and, released a Nightwing fan film by the name of Batman: Nightwing, in only three days. Currently it has reached almost one million views! After watching the original we promised we wouldn't make a sequel, unless we could make it look like a huge Hollywood production. And we got our chance.
A local studio here in Las Vegas, MG Studio has offered to help produce a web series with us focusing on Nightwing and a few other DC Universe characters!
MG Studio has already provided us with a ton of resources to make this new Fan series happen! The only problem is it's not enough to bring this new vision for a very cinematic and theatrical film to life.
We will primarily be spending the funds on high quality costumes and props as well as being able to gain locations that are otherwise unattainable.
Here are our current stretch goals. We will be releasing an update next week to highlight rewards that will be included. Check updates for more details!
- $40,000 - We build a custom Batman suit and cameo the Dark Knight himself in our series! Arial helicopters and better lighting equipment. We'll also double the budget we are putting into Nightwing's costume.
- $60,000 - We'll hire a professional stunt team AND stunt coordinator in order to create even better fight/action sequences. Better combat equipment and stunt props. More practical in-camera effects (real explosions etc.) and professional quality CGI work.
- $80,000 - We'll shoot on a RED Epic camera (The same camera used for the Hobbit) and shoot on location in cities like New York, Pittsburg, Chicago, and/or Los Angeles.
The reason we want to do this is because we are huge fans of Nightwing and the Batman universe! This is completely non-profit. No one has done a truly great Nightwing film/series/ etc. So this is our chance to finally give this character an awesome series! So please help us out, Kickstarter!!!!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The biggest challenges we face right now is scheduling. In the first Nightwing there were only two people working on it, over a course of three days. The new series will see at least 30 or more people on set, all of which will not be getting paid for their time. Everyone on set is working completely for free because we all love the character and see the potential to make something great! But we have been planning it out and hopefully we should be able to start shooting shortly after we receive funding!
Both versions come with "all of the above". So the $20 donation comes with a sticker, digital download, soundtrack and DVD, the Blu-Ray version comes with all of that plus the poster.
We are shooting for three 10 - 15 minute episodes.
This is a non-profit fan film being made exclusively for fun! I will supplement that by saying that Nightwing is the intellectual property of DC and Warner Brothers and they may stop us at any time. They released a statement in 2005 about their opinion of fan films.
WB released this quote prior to Comic Con 2005:
Warner Bros. wrote:"Warner Bros. definitely appreciates the enthusiasm and respect of its fans. We will continue to monitor the use of Warner Bros. properties as used in fan films. However, we will only consider taking action against such films that are either commercial in nature, are commercially exploited or otherwise engage in or depict inappropriate activity. Further, we will try to work with the comic book conventions, such as Comic-Con, to develop fan film screening programs that do not conflict with Warner Bros. rights in its properties. "
After the kickstarter is officially over on February 3rd, we will be messaging each of you to find out which shirts you would like and what sizes you will need.
Once we receive funding we wil hit the ground running. We will start working on costumes and securing shooting locations and equipment as soon as possible. We must allow a decent amount of time fors editing and special effects. No set date as of yet but we should fully know within the coming month!
No, these items are being made exclusively for the Kickstarter as pledge "rewards". These are strictly being given out to raise funds for a non-profit*, fan-made* series. DC and Warner Brothers own the rights to Batman, Nightwing and all other characters being used and "selling" any products after the Kickstarter would be against the law! So if you want to get any of these great rewards then donate now! You won't get another chance!
Nightwing: The Series is being made exclusively for youtube! When it is released it can be watched on the youtube channel Ismahawk*.
