Reward Update, Darkroom Print - Three of Five
I’m starting to feel like I should be in a sequined gown, gesturing toward fabulous prizes in some 70’s gameshow… “and behind curtain number three, we have: “Haley House 2” Smuttynose Island, Isles of Shoals.
Should you choose this fabulous prize, you’ll be happy to learn that Smuttynose Island is part of the National Wildlife Refuge. How great is that?, and how lovely that the family who own Smuttynose decided to put the this stark and stunning, rocky little island into conservation, to be enjoyed by humble human visitors and resident and transient wildlife all. And hats off to the Smuttynose stewards - the folks who take turns throughout the summer in watching the island and in the upkeep of Haley House.
This is another of my favorite personal images. There’s something about that lone house, that watchful window, the detail in the stark, winter-seared grass and that bit of bright ledge that just haunts me…
I realize I’m a bit of a throwback to the Romantic era in art (in fact one of my songs - “The Romantic” - is all about this), but really, living alone on a group of deserted islands filled with such rich history, for the past twenty winters, can you blame me?
This image will be personally hand-printed in my traditional darkroom on gelatin silver paper, signed, dated and numbered. A gallery print.
Tune in tomorrow to see what’s behind curtain #4.
Thank you for all the lovely pledges, shares, and expressions of emotional support!
