Second Image Chosen!
Hello to all!
I’ve chosen “Shoals - Breakwater” for the pledge tier of “$200 or more.”
This is the massive, granite breakwater that spans the distance between Star and Cedar islands, in the Isles of Shoals. This breakwater helps to create the tiny harbor of Gosport, which is somewhat also formed by the wave-blocking presence of the other surrounding islands - Smuttynose, Malaga, and Appledore. In winter this breakwater is absolutely hammered by massive, nor-easter-driven waves. Just during the span of my twenty winters on the island, some of these giant blocks of granite have been lifted and tossed by these storms, which is slowly and inexorably changing the configuration of this historic structure.
This is another of my favorite images, captured on film and printed in my darkroom, this image will be scanned and then digitally printed, signed and dated for this campaign.
Notice the strange cloud. It had swept out from the mainland, passed over the islands, and out to sea. Later, I was exhibiting this image at a group show and one of the painters took me over and pointed out the very same cloud in his painting of ships anchored off of Portsmouth. We conferred about the dates of creation of our work, and realized that we'd both captured the same cloud from our different vantages of mainland and island, and in different media. We had a good laugh over that!
