To fix the wobble, I bought a pack of corks, cut them down to size so they were slightly longer then the opening on the joints and shoved them in. The tighter the fit, the better. Now it has much less wobble. They should include something like that in the kit.
My lift came in today, and I immediately set it up in my office. First impressions: beautiful design and color, and the fairly sturdy. It can be a little wobbly, but overall not too bad. The pegs don't seem to evenly seat in the notches, which causes a loss table wobble, by it's not a showstopper. My biggest concern now is fitting two 22" monitors when it's not on the top notch. I'm sure I'll figure it out somehow.
All in all a quality product. I'm pretty impressed and I received compliments from my coworkers. Good thing I got it at the Kickstarter price because I'm not sure I'd pay $399 for it...
Well, I finally got my lift. It looks stunning! I have been using it for about a week now and with a few modifications, I am pretty pleased. I, as well as others it sounds like, found the lift very unstable in its highest position which is where I need mine to be as I am right around 6'3". Please don't get me wrong, I am able to use the desk without much issue now as I have installed some very small 90 degree brackets on the two main frames with the back and bottom brace boards. With this modification, it made it much sturdier. The drawback is that it no longer breaks down without unscrewing all of the 16 screws. This is not too much of an issue for me as I do not plan on transporting it often. The only other complaint I have is that there is a bit of "play" with the desk portion and where it slides between the two main frames (sides). So much that it feels as if the pegs are going to come out of the channels. However, this has not happed as of yet.
Got my LIFT, and like others was definitely surprised by the size and weight of it, but that's probably a good thing. Once assembled though, my LIFT wasnt completely stable and the desk is uneven and moves up and down when I do anything.....which is kind of annoying. I love the concept and will probably continue to use it, but am pretty disappointed that mine has this issue...
I've had my LIFT for a few months now. Overall impression - love it. It's well built, looks beautiful and works great. It took a bit of playing around with it to get used to moving the desk platform - mostly because it is heavier than I thought. Also as others have commented the slots are a bit difficult to slide into at first but after a week or so I've had no problems. I've got the hang of using it and can move the desk level without difficulty.
Keep in mind the dimensions of this desk - I didn't pay attention to this and was surprised at how large it is. Not that it's a bad thing - I love having a large working area but just make sure it fits on your current desk! I have this set up at work and it takes up almost half of my L shaped desk. I had to reconfigure my work area to make it fit.
Your LIFT is scheduled to ship along with most of the 3rd in-line this week. Some of the 3rd in-line will ship early next week. For any other questions, feel free to email support@iskelter.com. Thanks again!
I received my iSkelter Lift yesterday and just installed it at work today. Overall I am really happy with the finished product. There is some 'play' to the desk once installed but I would not say its a deal breaker. Perhaps installing rubber inlays at joints would eliminate this, I will let you know if I decide to try it out.
The bamboo is top notch, looks and feels great to the touch with all its natural knots and imperfections.
It is a pretty hefty box (50 lbs), so I would advise everyone to clear a good bit of space and work with a partner if possible to put it together.
Really happy with the initial look, feel and functionality.
Hi @iSkelter, it's been a week since my Lift was supposed to ship and I still have not received a shipping notification. I emailed support@iskelter.com (twice) and received no response.
Hi @dgranada We are shipping about 4 to 5 per day. Your shipping date looks to be Wednesday/Thursday of this coming up week. Please email David at support@iskelter.com for an exact shipping date. I hope that helps, thanks for dropping us a line.
Also, as far as I can tell the first desk reported as received arrived on Oct. 5 (49 weekdays ago) and there is a total of 285 backers. So assuming a single desk per backer and assuming all desks have shipped (heroic assumption), iskelter would be shipping at an astonishing rate of 6 desks per day... The worst part is the actual rate is no doubt slower than that.
Anyone have anything positive to say about their standing desk? I've been looking for reviews/unboxing videos, ANYTHING not coming from iskelter about this desk with no luck. It does not bode well that all independent feedback I've seen thus far is mostly negative from users in this forum. Anyway, would be nice to get some sort of update from iskelter as well...
Sorry to hear about your LIFT. The metal pegs must have been drilled in a little too far on your unit. Please email supoort@iskelter.com. We will do our best to correct the issue there.
Received mine yesterday and set it up today. First impression was that it looked great. Unfortunately first impressions didn't last long as there's some minor and major flaws. Overall it seems quality control was lacking.
* The left side 'bolts' that connect the work surface to the sides are too short. Looks to be about 5mm shorter than the right side. This means it wobbles more (I'll come to that later) and the front one is prone to 'popping out' risking the entire thing collapsing. Scary stuff.
* It's wobbly as hell typing on it when fully extended. I'm 6'2" and need it extended to the top level. It sways side to side by at least 5mm which is even scarier when you compare with the wonky side bolts mentioned above.
* It also squeaks as it moves. Like having a small mouse setup house under your desk. I presume this is the bamboo joints rubbing together.
* One of the laminate layers is missing / broken where the iphone dock is (front one). This runs from the front to back (past the dock connector), looks ugly and makes the phone sit unevenly. Photo of that flaw here - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10048001/flaw.jpg
* The iPad dock makes me ipad 3 (30 pin) sit at almost 90 degrees. Making it next to impossible to use without it falling forward. The hole should have been further forward to allow the ipad to lean back a little.
The bottom front brace doesn't like to be all the way back. No idea why it's setup right but it just wants to move forward all the time. Combined with first two points, each time I check it, it's at least 5mm forward of the most engaged spot. I suppose this helps add to the wobble too. Some kind of cork plug would likely work... but hey I spent $368 to not have to mess on with a DIY approach, or so I thought.
@creator/Nathan - it's good to see you here and hear that you're working on the Lifts, but the fact is, I have mailed your support address twice -- once on November 21st, and once on the 29th, with no response. And no, it wasn't caught in a spam filter -- I have no less than four advertisements from support@iskelter.com for your other products, including your Black Friday Sale.
We are doing our best to respond to any inquiries regarding shipping of your LIFTS at support@iskelter.com We answer all customer support emails daily and are doing our best to get the LIFTS shipped out.
I'm in the first group, don't expect much in the way of communication from iskelter. It's unfortunate, but I guess serial creators in Kickstarter tend to become less communicative with every new project.
I am also in the second group and waiting for delivery. I have written to support@iskelter.com twice in the hopes of finding out either a delivery date range or a tracking number, and received no response.
I've been using mine for the past 2+ weeks or so, and am relatively happy with it. It looks great on my desk.
My only complaint with it is that it is very wobbly. Every person who has walked over, admired the looks, and went to test the stability. It always wobbles and the first comment is "not very sturdy, is it?". I use a trackpad, so I can't comment on what it would be like with a mouse, but it is pretty easy to get it rocking from side to side without much effort. I've confirmed (multiple times) that all pieces are firmly in place. I suspect that the issue is that the back/bottom boards are slightly too long, which gives it some play.
I currently use it with a 27" iMac and a pair of Audio Engine A2 speakers. It was clearly designed for laptops though - it takes 2 people to adjust it, and I now use it in the tallest position only. I'm contemplating the use of some 'L' brackets to firm it up.
Overall, it got me standing up, and with a floor mat, I'm a happy "standing desk" convert. With a little James Brown, I'm happily bopping around while getting work done.
