The essential accessory for your laptop. Created for business professionals, students, designers, gamers, or just anyone with a laptop.
Introducing the Slate
Laptops are designed for mobility but they're missing the comforts of a desk. We experience poor posture and back pains, lost items, heat on our laps, and an overall slow work speed. We searched through one retail store after another, but much to our dismay, we only found basic accessories and plain-old surfaces for our laptops. So, the invention of the Slate was born. It's the only product of it's kind and with your help - we can make it affordable for everyone to enjoy.
Obsessive Attention to Detail
The Slate is cut from a block of pure, premium bamboo. It's ultra lightweight, super strong, and it will absorb the heat from your laptop. The curves, air ventilation, and docking station are chiseled, hand-sanded, and polished to mirror the feeling of glass. A super thick and heavy duty mouse pad is installed and sits flush against the surface of the slate.
It's Quicker and Smarter
The Slate is a household accessory, bringing form and function to our daily lives. It's practical, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly - it increases the efficiency of our laptops. Save time with the Slate and work smarter, not harder.
Comfort should include temperature control but laptops release continual heat. The Slate's ventilation cools down our laptops. Any of the remaining heat is absorbed within the natural bamboo.
The Perfect Posture
The Slate is a promoter of healthy posture. The mousepad balances to the right and the laptop is centered, facing our bodies. It's just like using a desk but the Slate can be used in comfortable environments.
Phone and Tablet Display
The Slate couldn't be considered the Mobile AirDesk without an extended display dock for our phones and mini tablets. The dock includes a cable slot and it can fit just about any phone or mini tablet on the market.
Made for Lefty's and Righty's
Thanks to all the backers so far, we have well cleared our $10,000 stretch goal. So, the final production run will now include left handed and right handed Slates. After funding has completed - every backer will receive a survey. The survey will ask what type of Slate you would like, and you will be able to note your preference (left or right). Again, thanks everyone for making this possible!
We Need Your Help: The Slate will begin its first of many production runs. The PO's have been prepared for bulk orders of premium bamboo and commercial mouse pads. With your help, we will be able to purchase the materials and implement a streamlined production process - so the Slate can become affordable for the every day person.
The entire production process is completed at our workshop in Tempe, Arizona (USA). First, with a fine bit, the bamboo block will be cut by a CNC machine. Then, we will machine sand and smooth the Slate's surface and sides. We follow this step with a fine polish and the installation of the heavy-duty mousepad. We truly thank everyone participating in the early stages of this retail product.
Shipping and Delivery Time: The Slate will be shipped for free within the Domestic USA and World-Wide for an additional fee. To ensure an even quicker delivery time - once our goal has been met, we will begin ordering material and start the production run. We promise to all of our Kickstarter friends that the Slate will deliver in-time for Christmas. The Slate will be delivered 1-week before Christmas. Please Note: There will be a 1 to 2 week extended delivery times for international shipments.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
At this point, we've overcome many challenges to create the Slate prototypes. With great pleasure, I can now confidently offer the finished and polished product to you on Kickstarter.
Kickstarter pledges will be fulfilled in the order they were placed so depending on the success of Slate, time will be our biggest challenge. Understanding this, we’ve allocated extra time in our schedule to ensure that we can ship two weeks before Christmas so the Slate arrives a week early.
While I know it’s possible that we’ll encounter other challenges, we’re fully committed to the Slate and I truly appreciate each backer making this retail product a reality.
Great question and thanks for asking. We have created another model that includes a larger docking display slot. The extra 1/4 inch of space allows for thick and bulky cases. After funding, an end of project survey will be sent to all backers so you can list what type of dock you prefer for your Slate. Just to note, thin cases will fit in the standard model.
The quicker the project is funded, the faster we are able to order the material in bulk and begin the project. However, all of our sources are local in the USA and we can complete the first production run quickly. We will be shipping 1st generation Slates between December 12th through the 16th. All domestic USA shipments will be delivered in-time for Christmas, however international orders may have an extended delivery time.
Glad you asked. Yes, our workshop is located in Tempe, Arizona. We hand build and package all of our products. For more information about my studio, please visit iSkelter.com.
Everyone is asking this question and it's important. To request multiple sets for any specific reward, make sure to pledge 2x, 3x, 4x, etc the amount. This way, we can send multiple Slates to you. For anything outside the USA, you only have to pay for shipping once.
If you have any questions, just let me know. Thanks again backers!
We hit the 10k stretch goal. So, the final production run will now include left handed Slates. This is due to the continual request for people wanting the mousepad and dock on the left side. After the funding has been completed - every backer will receive a survey. The survey will ask what type of Slate you would like, and you will be able to note your preference (left or right mousepad).
Thanks for making this possible!
The Slate was designed to fit 13" to 17" (inch) laptops.
1) 13" - extra space
2) 15" - perfect fit
3) 17" - fills the space
For the photography and video, I used my 15" MacBook Pro. It fits perfect and leaves 1.5 inches of additional space.
