There are currently three official rule sets for playing Bring Your Own Book (viewable at bringyourownbook.com) and all of them use books. However, we are excited to see how players tweak the game and put it to use with other media. We love the idea of BYOBook being more than just a game: a toolkit for unlocking exciting experiences with the written word.
Playing Bring Your Own Book with Wikipedia articles? Give it a shot. Having to find a selection in multiple books before winning a card? Sounds challenging. Using the cards as writing prompts? Yes, yes, yes.

The cards themselves are not risqué. The experience changes primarily with the books you bring and the people you play with. Because of that, it should be appropriate for children.
Depending on your comfort level, you may wish to remove a few cards that flirt with sensitive subjects or invite salacious replies: "A passage from a religious text," "A political slogan," "A pick-up line," and "Something you wouldn't want to hear your grandparent's say" all come to mind.
Bring Your Own Book can be played by children who are able to understand how words and phrases shift meaning depending on context. A good cue they're ready is when they start understanding jokes that involve wordplay. From what we understand (disclaimer: we are not psychologists), this usually happens between 7 and 11 and correlates to the concrete operational stage (as identified in Piaget's stages of cognitive development).

Many of you recognize the value of Bring Your Own Book not just as a game but a teaching tool and literacy aid. Though we specified "libraries" in the PATRON backer rewards, we absolutely encourage you to send your extra copies to literacy organizations, youth centers, teachers, tutors, or eager readers: anyone or anywhere you think they will be appreciated.
As long as you have an address where you want it sent, we'll send it there. The note we attach will explain the gift without any assumptions about the recipient, i.e. we will not say, "Dear librarian..."Last updated:
Previously, it would have been an issue, but now you'll find levels for international backers above! The only place we are unable to ship is Brazil, as our fulfillment company has too many issues with lost packages.
Due to the variable sizes, timeline, and fulfillment method for T-shirts, we are only offering the game reward levels to international backers, and only the single copy reward levels at that. It's not that we don't love libraries around the world, it's just that the logistics could quickly get sticky.Last updated:
At this time, the rewards are intended as a thank you gift for backing rather than a method of preordering the game in quantity. This is partly due to the Kickstarter website being set up more as a funding platform than an online store, but it's also about streamlining our shipping process.
Some people have noticed that, if you back at any of the PATRON levels, each of your copies can be sent wherever you like, even if they'll both ultimately be used by you. As mentioned in an earlier FAQ item, we won't be performing any verification on the recipients for second copies, so this is a viable way of gifting a second copy to the person of your choice.
Once the campaign is over, we'll be looking for a retail option where people can purchase as many copies as they can carry. Backers will be the first to know when we've found something.Last updated:
