About Ink Begets Color.
In 2017 I did my first full month of Inktober, I loved the grueling process of making one drawing every day for a whole month. In 2018 I wanted to make something special from all the resulting artwork. When October came I had my heart set out to make a coloring book.
I wanted to find a way to make people interact with my artwork, and I love how coloring can transform drawings. Ever since I was a kid I´ve loved coloring books, I want to make this book for everyone who shares this passion, but also for those who would like to enjoy the original artwork by itself.
This is my way of sharing what makes me happy.
Ink begets Color is an art book coloring book, made by 31 inktober prompted drawings, and some extra original artwork.
How I’m making it.
I did all the original drawings back in October with a ballpoint pen, then I scanned them in order to clean them up and prepare them for printing. However, I realized that some needed extra work, and soon I was retracing them all digitally. Some sketches I changed a lot, improving composition or adding more elements to color, others I just traced taking away some of the hatching.
In the collector pledge level, you get one of the original ink drawings done back in October, there are 24 in total (one single page contains several smaller scale illustrations). A random ink drawing will be selected, packaged and sent to you.
Budget timelines and shipping
Because this is my first kickstarter and I wanted to make it available worldwide, I decided to partner up with fulfillment companies that would help me deliver the rewards to you. Pulling in from the expertise of seasoned professionals and avoid any trouble that could have otherwise sprung up with shipment.
I’m still working on prepping some of the drawings, I expect to have all artwork ready by the end of the campaign. First I’ll send out the pdf files first, but manufacture is set to be begin no later than a week or two after the campaign ends (whenever the funds arrive). However, if new artwork is unlocked, and the schedule happens to change I’ll keep you updated.
I’m taking into account some delays that might happen during production of the physical copies of the book and pin. This way even if delays do occur, they will probably not delay the final delivery.
March- Campaign begins.
April- Campaign ends, funds arrive 1-2 weeks later.
Final touches in the files are made, revisions and print tests are done.
June – Collecting backer surveys.
All digital copies are sent.
Orders are sent to manufacturers and production begins.
July- Books are packed and shipped to fulfillment companies.
Shipping to backers begins.
August- All rewards have been sent.
Even if you pledge at Ink Supporter, you are helping me get closer to making this project happen.
Support me by sharing my project!
You can also help by getting the word out there! If you know someone who loves coloring or illustration, please share my project with them!
Risks and challenges
This is my first Kickstarter, but I’ve collaborated in some other projects as an artist creating content. And through it I´ve been aware of the different challenges they´ve encountered, and learned from them.
I want to make sure everything runs smoothly, from the campaign to production and shipment. I´ve done my research and selected printers and manufacturers that will help me make a great product, and contacted fulfillment companies that will help me make sure you get your rewards in a promptly manner.
I´m aware some delays may occur during production and shipment, and it may push the timeline a few weeks away. If this happens you´ll be notified, I´ll keep sending updates every step of the way.
All of the artwork is done, some pages still need to be reworked digitally, but the time needed has already been taken into account.
