The main and primary objective of this project is to develop capabilities in Costa Ricans to carry out projects for developing space technology and real space missions. This, in order to build step by step the human and institutional infrastructure, as a country and as a region, to leverage our capabilities, turning the aerospace industry into a new niche of development. In this sector one of the main projects that emerging countries choose to achieve those objectives, consists precisely in launching small satellites, among which, the CubeSat standard has great advantages.
Once this was identified, we decided to assign the satellite a scientific mission that responded to a real need of Costa Rica, in this case, to monitor the effects of climate change on tropical forests, taking into account the context and relevance of the issue worldwide, as well as the country's goal to achieve carbon neutrality. Space technology offers great advantages also as a platform for data collection and transmition, when we think about the scalability of the project, and the possibility of placing sensors in remote areas of very difficult access, and no options such as internet or cellular signal, in Costa Rica or in other countries.
