In Age of Grit you play the captain of an old, beat-up, steam-powered airship. You and your crew adventure across a vast, cowboy-themed, steampunk world simply known as "The West." You're looking for whatever work you can find--bounty hunting, smuggling contraband, running guns...maybe even a little train robbery if yer so inclined. 'Bout anything to pay the bills, keep the guns loaded, the boiler stoked, and keep your ship in the sky!

Your home is a rusty, rickety, steam-powered airship. She's seen better days, but she’s a tough old bird. Constructed over half a century ago, she was originally built as an unarmed cargo ship. She hauled loads of munitions and coal to the front lines of the Great Iron War. Since then, the old girl's been modified and renovated many times. Her hull's been reinforced, sensors upgraded, and the ship has been retrofitted with heavy weaponry. Home sweet home!
When trouble comes, you'll battle enemy airships using a deeply strategic, turn-based combat system. Far from a button masher, AOG will require careful thought to achieve each victory. A heavy cannon might do well against a slow moving, heavily armored enemy, but perhaps a long-gun will be more effective when gunning down a more agile opponent. A machine gun might be powerful at first, but as the barrel overheats it's effectiveness will diminish. With clever strategy, a weaker ship can typically bring down a much stronger foe.
'Course it wouldn't be an RPG without all that sweet, sweet loot! Your ship is fully customizable--every last component can be upgraded. Build a flame spewing flying tank or a nimble sharpshooter--there are literally millions of potential player ship configurations!
You can buy better machinery from one of The West's many shops and dealers, or you might be able to salvage better parts from the wreckage of a vanquished enemy's ship. As you improve your airship you’ll be able to take on bigger and more powerful foes and, in so doing, spread your fame across The West!
'Course a ship's more than just guns and iron, she's home to your crew. As your journey unfolds, you'll get to know them better and learn their individual stories. As you progress, you'll be able to upgrade your crew and gain access to new and interesting abilities.
With over 50 unique and compelling towns to discover, The West is a great, wide, and varied world. Railroad tracks crisscross the landscape. Mines, forts, and trading posts dot the countryside. Your journey will take you through cactus covered deserts, red rock canyons, tropical sandy beaches, and the harsh forests of the northern mountain chains. There's untold riches to be found, and danger lurks behind every cloud.
The West is divided by different factions--each has its own culture, background, and interests. The factions don't typically get along too well, playin' nice ain't exactly their forte. War is looming, liable to break out at any moment. Armies are gathering and massive navies of armored airships are being constructed with great haste. The fate of The West is about to be decided!
The West has deep lore. We've written centuries worth of rich history to flesh out the world, to make it feel real and lived in. As you explore The West, you'll uncover ancient mysteries time has forgotten. Hidden secrets lay ready to be unearthed, and lost treasures wait to be found.
Interesting folk of every variety work, live, and die here. Brave patriots, vile traitors, bandits, lawmen, ranchers, inventors, prospectors, fur traders, and adventurers of every caliber all call The West home. At each town you'll meet an assortment of colorful characters. A few might have a job to offer or cargo for you to haul. Others might be fixin' to just shoot you where you stand.
Video games can tell stories with a sense of depth and immersion that no other medium can approach. At its core, AOG is about the people you meet, what story they have to tell, and how you choose to interact with them. Every conversation matters and determines how your Wild West adventure will unfold.
Think of your favorite video game. Now stop for a second and think of the music. Chances are it was awesome. Music is the soul of any good game. We might not always consciously realize it but a solid musical score adds a huge amount of tone, emotion, and depth to a video game.
This game will need music that can bring its vast and colorful world alive. Age of Grit will feature an original orchestral score. A core soundtrack is already complete, though with your help we'd like to expand the soundtrack to include more tracks.

Howdy! My name is Andy Morrison. I live with my wonderful wife and beautiful daughter in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. Me and a few talented friends comprise a small indie studio called IQ Soup. Right now I'm the only full time member of the team, everyone else is currently working as part-time contractors.
I've been playing and loving games ever since my family got "Super Mario + Duck Hunt" for the NES. Making games for a living has always been my dream as long as I can remember. I can vividly recall playing Dino Park Tycoon as a young child and dreaming of one day making a game that was just as cool--except the T-Rex wouldn't immediately escape despite all the countless electrified concrete walls you built!
We previously held a crowdfunding campaign here on Kickstarter and were overwhelmed with the support we received from the community! We were incredibly grateful to raise over $15,000. Just as importantly: to receive so much support really gave us the confidence to continue with our vision for AOG.
With the money we raised we've done a lot and now have built a working prototype of the game. Most of the art assets are complete and all of the game's major systems are functioning. However it has become clear that in order to make AOG the polished experience it deserves to be--and do so in a timely matter--we will need further funding. We've discussed this with our original backers and the feedback we received was extremely supportive.
One way or another this game is going to get finished, but with additional funding our team will be able to devote a lot more time to the project--less need for other jobs and side gigs. We'll also be able to hire on a few more people and get everything wrapped up much faster.

AOG Guidebook: Entitled "The West: A Traveler's Compendium," this is a detailed traveler's guide of The West. It is written from perspective of Nessmuk T. Franklin, a famous adventurer and traveler of The West. It contains some of the history of The West, bios of some of the important figures, and write-ups for various settlements. The guide is complete with detailed sketches and illustrations. BOUNTY HUNTER and HERO tiers will receive a physical copy, printed and bound to resemble a vintage Old West style book. It will measure roughly 4 x 7 inches and will be a great way to showcase your AOG enthusiasm! GUNSLINGER tier backers and above will receive a PDF version of the guidebook.
Cloth Map: A full-color detailed cloth map of The West. Key settlements will be featured along with terrain and other details. It will look and feel authentic--like it's a true artifact from the game! It will be approximately 8 x 15 inches and will look great framed or hung on a wall! Available to BOUNTY HUNTER and HERO tiers.
Design an NPC: Fully design an actual NPC--a rival ship captain the player will meet in the game. Choose the character's name, disposition, gender, race and personality. You may even help create his or her appearance. Our artists can base the portrait off of you or design it as you see fit! Available to CAPTAIN and HERO tiers.

Risks and challenges
Our game is already in the later stages of development--currently approaching a solid, playable, fully-featured beta. Assuming the world doesn't suddenly shift orbit and come careening into the sun, this game is going to be completed. The most likely risk is that the game is going to take longer than expected to finish. That's always a risk for game developers big and small. That being said, we've been working at this game for a while now and have a pretty good sense of the work load that remains and how long it's gong to take.
