About this project
Lift is a minimal, functional wall hook that declutters your life. It's a simple way of turning unused wall space into storage for your everyday carry, as well as the heavier items like your bike. Its clean and elegant design complements your space and your lifestyle.
What's Unique About Lift?
- Versatile: Lift's dual wood and steel hanger is tough enough for your bike, but sleek enough for your scarves.
- Ambidextrous: Lift's metal arm can be slotted in from the left or right, for convenient placement and installation.
- Goes anywhere: Lift can be installed on all kinds of surfaces, whether you need it in your garage or your living room.
- Minimal: Lift's hardware is covered by a leather insert for an unobtrusive, low-key design.
- Tough: Lift can handle heavier items up to 50lbs/25kg.
- Clean: An optional plate can be installed to protect walls from tire tread or dirt.
Lift's T-shaped hook can hold multiple items at once. It can hold heavier items such as your bike!
It's also great for everyday carry items like jackets, hats and bags!
Lift is scaled to fit bike wheels from the smallest kid's bike up to a 29 x 3" mountain bike wheel.
Lift is also small: it has a low profile 11" x 2" x 1/2" backplate and a 3" x 2" x 4" bracket that functions as the hook mechanism. This makes for a tiny overall footprint of just 11 x 2 x 4". The optional bottom tread guard is only 6 x 2 x .5".
Installing Lift is easy. Simply screw it into any supporting wall stud with the supplied hardware...
... Then add the finishing touch by covering the hardware with the supplied synthetic leather strip.
For installing on other surfaces like brick or concrete, the appropriate hardware should be used to ensure a proper connection.
We're a small team of designers, and most of us live in small, urban spaces. We wanted to create a simple storage solution that was durable and elegant, because too many products out there are just one or the other. Lift had to be strong, beautiful, and functional.
These key needs drove our design process, and helped us make decisions about of our final design. As big believers in minimalism, we made sure that each component of LIFT was essential, useful, and simple. Take a look at our design blog for a behind-the-scenes peek at our process!
When selecting materials, we looked for quality, functionality, and a clean aesthetic. Lift is made of a notched wood dowel for everyday items, a durable powder-coated steel arm for the heavy stuff, and a CNC-milled baltic birch base that secures it all to the wall. We also sourced ethical synthetic leather for the bike tread cushion.
We're IPPINKA, a small team of designers and design-lovers based in Toronto, Canada. Founded in 2012, we specialize in curating products from makers and designers all over the world - products just like Lift that are functional, minimal, and long-lasting. With the launch of Lift we're excited to step into designing our own products that match our ethos.
We're a small team with backgrounds in industrial design and engineering, and we have plenty of experience with coordinating warehouses and makers to deliver quality products on time. It's what we do day-to-day. Where Lift differs from our past experience is our relationship with makers.
Throughout the design process for Lift we've worked closely with North American manufacturers every step of the way - from chatting about feasibility to prototyping. It's helped make the design better, and it's given us reasonable cost estimates and lead times. We have locked in reliable partners who are ready to go into production. We're confident that Lift will exceed your expectations, and get to you on time.
Risks and challenges
We understand that there are risks and challenges involved in the production process. We have chosen well established and successful manufacturers to help us make Lift. However, we will perform testing and inspections of all products before releasing them to market in order to perfect the quality of the products and ensure they are made well. Lift has undergone testing by several testers and was continually improved throughout the testing process. We believe that we have now achieved the best Lift possible.
We have plenty of experience with delivery, however, one challenge we have considered is that if we exceed our funding goal, coping with a large direct-to-customer delivery may result in a slight delay in the estimated shipping delivery. We will be sure to inform you if any concern or challenge arises.
Lift has been rigorously tested and we have found that the maximum recommended weight to be placed on the hook is 50 lbs / 25 Kg. We highly recommend you do not exceed this limit. Please follow proper installation instructions.
To accommodate a fat tire, the back plate as well as the bracket will need to be wider. Based on some requests we have received, we will consider creating a "Lift XL" for the second version of this product.
