From the creator of the hoverboard comes the next evolution in transportation: The Hoverwheel-a new, simple and ultra-compact e-vehicle
The NEXT CRAZE has arrived!
After introducing the original hoverboard to the world in 2012, Inventist is reinventing rideables once again with it's newest invention The Hoverwheel.
Sublime in its Simplicity
Inventist is continuing to lead the way with The Hoverwheel. It's the lightest, most versatile rideable ever! The patent pending Hoverwheel is an electrically motorized, self-balancing wheel that fits directly under your foot. That’s right! Everything you need for self-balancing: sensors, processor, battery, motor and wheel–is contained in one compact and neat module. It's a concept so simple, but yet impactful in it's ability to move you from Point A to Point B in a fun and inventive way.
It's all about discovering your own style
Two Hoverwheels can be ridden like a hoverboard, but with more independence and maneuverability allowing you create your own riding style! Being able to move your feet separately opens up a lot of riding possibilities! How will you use it?
Hop On and Fly Your Way!
Maximum speed will vary when riding the Hoverwheel using different methods:
- Play method: - 7.5mph/12kph
- Transportation method: - 10mph/16kph
- Skating method: - 12mph/19kph
Whether for play, transportation or skating, riding around on Hoverwheels is a winner when it comes to all the things you look for and need in a rideable:
- Move easily and securely over rough outdoor surfaces
- Avoid obstacles and squeeze through tight spaces
- Move more securely at faster speeds
- No more worrying about hitting anything to your sides
The Hoverwheel can also be used in “skating mode"! When you skate, you turn your own energy into forward motion instead relying on the motor, which then allows you to use your own muscle power when you choose to. The battery and motor only function as a stabilizer so you can skate on one wheel. Skating with Hoverwheels can give you a workout while also charging the batteries at the same time! When you use a skating stroke, the energy you create transfers to the battery so it will never run out of power!
True Transportation: How the hoverboard evolved into the Hoverwheel
Serial inventor Shane Chen came up with the idea for the Hoverwheel as an evolution to his hoverboard, that he created in 2011 as a toy. However, when hoverboards became popular in 2015, many people were trying to use them for transportation. Though fun, hoverboards are not great for transportation because as a vehicle with only a one-wheel axis its wheels are too small for outdoor surfaces. That means if both wheels hit a bump or crack at the same time the rider may fall.
Shane realized that non-self-balancing vehicles like scooters and skateboards didn't have that problem because they have two axles: a wheel in the front and a wheel in the back. Two axles make a big difference in a vehicles ability to produce a smooth and comfortable ride over bumps and cracks, even if the wheels are small.
So, in September 2015, Shane separated the two halves of a hoverboard and made a prototype that consisted of two independent segments and a connector that allowed you to move one foot out in front of the other, thus creating two axels. It worked great when riding on a rough surface, or when more stability was needed when going fast. Having one foot in front of the other allows you to be in "transportation mode", meaning using it outdoors is no longer a problem.
The connector was removable, so that the two segments could be ridden with or without it. This first prototype was a success! A provisional patent application was filed on October 29, 2015.
After more testing, it turned out that the learning curve for people using the Hoverwheel for the first time learned at about the same pace with or without the connector.
Now Shane had a new rideable that could be used for transportation! Being able to move your feet independently lets you avoid obstacles, ride on rougher roads, get through tight spaces and travel more securely at faster speeds making it very versatile and great for transportation, such as moving around city sidewalks and streets. Riders can learn to use the Hoverwheel quickly and easily while feeling confident and secure in the quality of ride it offers.
An Important Discovery
What Shane discovered after separating the two units, was that people would often put all their weight on one unit. That didn't happen on a hoverboard because no matter how you shifted your weight, you still had two wheels supporting you. So, for the final product we've doubled the motor power and the battery pack was changed from 6 to 7 cells for each module to make sure the Hoverwheel always has enough power for the rider.
Safety is Always a Priority!
This is very important: Inventist guarantees the quality of ALL their products. We use high quality batteries, motors and electronic components in every single unit. In 2016 when the CPSC recalled all hoverboards because of fire issues, Inventist's Hovertrax-the original hoverboard-was the only hoverboard not recalled.
Each Hoverwheel weighs only 6.9 pounds, can reach speeds up to 10 miles per hour, can carry a max load of 220 pounds and is guaranteed to deliver fun wherever you ride! Hoverwheels are already on their way to our facilities. As an early supporter, US backers will receive their order in early December, 2018 along with free shipping! All other orders will be shipped in early 2019.
Hoverwheels For All
For those of you who want more confidence when riding the Hoverwheel, or if you want to use it just like a hoverboard, we have two different connectors available:
PROTOTYPE: The Hoverwheel Bridge
A patent pending rotatable connector connects two Hoverwheels together to give them the function and appearance of a classic hoverboard! We call it the Hoverwheel Bridge.
By connecting two Hoverwheels with the Hoverwheel Bridge, you can transform the Hoverwheels into a single device. It's better than the original hoverboard because the wheels are located beneath your feet instead of to the outside. You won’t have to worry about the wheels hitting anything to the sides anymore.
PROTOTYPE: The Hoverwheel Band
The patent pending Hoverwheel Band is designed only bend up when both ends are pushed in. And when it’s straight, it automatically keeps the two Hoverwheels parallel, so there is no effort for you to maintain your feet in a parallel position.
Plus, the Hoverwheel Band still lets you move your feet farther apart or closer together, adding a new dimension of freedom that stiff hoverboards just don’t have.
How to get them:
The Bridge and Band offer a unique opportunity to use your Hoverwheels in various ways. The Band requires one plastic injection mold, while the Bridge requires two. We are in the preliminary phase of creating these three molds. As a supporter of our campaign, we are offering you the Bridge and Band for only $10, including free shipping everywhere! We will email supporters a link with more details when they are ready to be shipped. They will be available in early 2019 and shipped separately from your Hoverwheels. That's a $35+ value!
Turning dreams into cutting edge reality
Shane's Hoverwheel is his fourth such invention in the field of hands-free, electric rideables. The Solowheel came first followed by the Hovertrax (the original hoverboard) and then the IOTAtrax.
When you ride a self-balancing rideable like the Hoverwheel, you only need to do what you would normally do if you were standing on the ground, except that the wheels and motors function as your feet and legs. Your brain already knows what to do. This is why proficient riders will say that the device is “reading your mind”, or that you “think forward” to go forward, and why we tell beginners that the less you do, the easier it is.
Shane's idea of eliminating handle bars has sparked the mobility revolution that started in 2010 with the Solowheel. It turns out that self-balancing is in fact the most natural and intuitive way to control a small personal rideable. Let the evolution continue!

Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges involved with the development of new products like the Hoverwheel. Some challenges we are able to overcome quickly, and others take time. Because we only develop products invented by Shane Chen, and he is always working on his inventions, making improvements and solving problems that may crop up, we try and take action to make sure they are minimal.
A common issue for any developer is getting the first line of production out to consumers in a timely manner. So, for the Hoverwheel, we have already fully developed the prototype, corrected problems, tested and retested and completed a batch of Hoverwheels so they are ready to ship to backers.
The design and development process will continue with funding, but for now you can get your very own Hoverwheels hot off the production line and be one of the first in the world to own this amazing new rideable!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
