Sounds great. Hopefully within the next 30 days you will have a definitive answer as to when the original 32780 non beta backers may have a shot at this awesome game.

All I ask is for the sequel to honour the great Wasteland and the amazing minds behind it. Deliver when you're read

    3. Bret Gladfelty on

Love you Brian! I'd rather have a quality product over an artificial timeline.

      but I called it.

As long as it takes. As long as the focus is on getting W2 released, and not the next project.

All that aside, what are the beta testers impressions of the game thus far? (No spoilers please.)

My $.02 - take your time. I've played enough bugged out CRPGs over the past few years; I'd rather have more play testing and bugs squashed in the initial release.

      Dear Brian,

      Release the bloody thing already.

      Yours truly,

    7. Jeff

@Rich I understand it takes time to make a game, but it NEVER should have been put up for Early Access on steam till ALL THE PEOPLE THAT PAID 2 YEARS AGO HAVE GOTTEN TO PLAY. Keep doing beta I don't care but at this point on a 2nd beta you should be opening it up to everybody here that is support to receive a copy.

    8. Bogoy Hafner on

To be honest - I don't have that much time to follow every step of your beta ... I will judge you on delivery though - so please take your time and create something which is not impeded by time :P

    9. Stephen on

Carry on with the timeline as you laid out. I signed up for the best damn RPG since the Fallout 2 (or even better) and that takes time. The obvious visual progress from the screenshots confirms you are on the right path. Looking forward to firing up the Beta again on Monday evening!

I fired up the beta for the first time in ages the other day, and I was thrilled at how smoothly everything was running now. Character creation took 5 minutes where it used to take 30, and Ace's funeral and the world map ran like a dream. And then I hit the radio tower, and everything slowed to a crawl again.

Please tell me you're not done optimizing everything! My laptop is basically a very expensive paperweight, but I never in a million years would've thought Wasteland 2 would put such a strain on its resources. But I guess looks can be decieving! I'm not mad though, I'm actually over the moon. It's great to see a game that's already got a LOT of complexity under the hood, becoming even more complex.

That said, any chance of updating the $75 backer tier so that it comes with a new video card?

    11. Turk

Thank Brian, take your time, ignore the whiners and the "oh i am so angry i did not pledge for the beta and now i want IN the beta cos like you are slow " . Bugger them.

    12. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

Ryan: that is the next Kickstarter & beta update, both of which are on Monday.

    13. Ryan on

      Sounds good.

My only question would be: You mention doing the $10 beta deal will come out the same time as the next update, but don't mention when the next update is going to be, or if you meant the next Kickstarter update or just the next beta code update.

So, do you have an estimate on when this next update will be (couple days, this week, a week from now, two weeks)?

Did you mean the next Kickstarter update?

Everything looks awesome. If Wasteland 2 is going to be the new Fallout 2, I can wait three months.

    15. Tomimt on

All fine and tandy you wanting to take your time. A polished game is always for the better. But if the release starts to look closer to october 2014, it would be fine and tandy from your part to let the rest of the KS backers to get at it. I'm sure by then even the Linux beta backers have had their share of exclusive beta testing.

    16. Rich on

Take your time guys, what's another few months of fixing bugs and tweaking stuff around?

Making a video game takes a lot of work and effort--- something that people like Jeff here doesn't seem to understand.

    17. Jeff

So what it boils down to is... Instead of 5 months late as of now your talking 8 MONTHS late. Not sure if I that is the right thing to do in an over all to the backers. You should be unlocking the 2nd Beta to all backers. Those that pledged for beta got their beta. Now I would like to play not just get update after update talking about people playing. I was ok with this whole thing of waiting till you guys released it early access on steam to people that didn't even help back the project from the beginning. I feel like I am a third rate customer even though I already paid almost 2 years ago. It's CRAP.

Take as much time as you have money to pay your developers :)
We all want this game to be a classic you want it to be.
For me personally, I want to push this game into the face of everyone that preferred that Oblivion with Guns to a real Fallout 3...

Sounds good so far. I'll have to check in at the next beta!~

In general, as long as you keep us backers up to date on how the game is progressing and why there are slow downs, I think most of us reasonable folk will be understanding. I mean, we are all itching to play a polished/finished game but as everyone knows(or should); game development rarely goes as planned.

    20. Ryan Deroche on

The 3 month plan sounds like a good idea to me.

Those new screenshots look great. Looking forward to the new beta update next week, especially the new A.I. which hopefully doesn't run back and forth between cover like they're wishy-washy bandits!

Oh, and I just got Wasteland 2 stuff from Jinx in the mail: the "explode 'em like a blood sausage" shirt and a Desert Rangers key chain. Bloody awesome!

    21. Paul J Natsch on

      Est delivery oct 2013.

Beta for all backers would sweeten the pain.

There was previously discussions on letting Kickstarters sign up with additional funds to test the mac beta. Is that still on the board, or do we have to wait?

    24. Stephen "Stoibs" D

The answer of 'when it's done' is fine by me, you don't have any suited CEO's whom demand a deadline to adhere to here, just long time old school RPG fans who want this to be as good as it can be.

Nice pics, already looking more polished with the UI tweaks and the crouch mode.

    25. Michaeljack on

Im totally happy to have a release date of 'when its ready'. The level of communication has been great between Devs and backers, its not like we are constantly wondering what you guys are doing. Keep it up guys!

    26. fredgiblet on

I apologize, but the discussion of iteration time REQUIRES that someone mention Duke Nukem Forever.

Very excited about the OS X release.. I'll finally get to play!!!
