Wasteland 2 has been released to great acclaim, earning Game of the Year from PCWorld, and reaching #1 on the Steam sales charts. Now, the Director's Cut comes as a free PC update to all backers as our thanks for making the game happen!
61,290 backers pledged $2,933,252 to help bring this project to life.

The Update Before The Update

The team at inXile is filled with nervous energy to show off what we've been working on. As we're now in full production, we've been making some great strides with the game’s systems. There is still quite a ways to go, but we're near the point where we can show you all a bit of what you pledged to make a reality.

Within a month, you can expect a new update which will show a few minutes of actual gameplay. The video will follow a slice of the Agricultural Center, which was designed by Mr. Chris Avellone. You'll see a team of four Rangers running around in the world, some early working HUD elements, a few combat encounters, a taste of dialog, and the ranger team using some of their skills. We’ve been working on each of these systems separately and this is the first time we've put them all together to get a small sample of the gameplay experience. It's beginning to look like a real game!

Keep in mind that this is an early build and is intended as a progress report, not as a demonstration of final gameplay. As always, we want to hear your feedback! It has been a cornerstone of our development up to this point and we beg that you keep it coming as it will only result in a better game for everyone. We follow all channels available to us so let us know with a comment below or on Facebook, Twitter, our blog, forums, or by simply shouting very loudly.

We hope you'll see the potential.

If you'd like to get periodic details of the development process, you can also follow me on Twitter @RangerKeenan. Thanks and we look forward to hearing your responses!

Love it, especially the giant crate labeled Contents: One Watermelon. Has that Wasteland vibe!

    2. Runar Jenssen on February 10, 2013

The art style and HUD seriously remind me of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. And I can dig that!!

    3. Cristian Alfredo Damer on January 29, 2013

I can wait, rushing things only make them worst.
Just take your time and make me a good game, that's all.

I like how they forewarned it was still in development, because some people like to be obtuse and shout profanities at the first sign of incompletion. I feel ya, inXile, I feel ya. I have faith this game'll be awesome. The deadlines that inXile are aiming for, and attempting to reach, give me reassurance that they're on their A game. Keep up the good work, guys!

Thanks for the update #22. How about using using Survey Monkey (or something similar) to collect the backers choices? Maybe have a few rounds, narrowing it down say from 5 to 2 choices over the course of a week or more. I would definitely announce this through a Kickstarter update, as I believe more backers keep track of that than the forums of all the projects they've backed. I've always imagined it to be a chore to sift through tonnes of rubbish (i.e. non-constructive) posts to get to the good ones, so i hope this helps.

What a tease. My email told me that a new Wasteland 2 update was up. What a fool I was! I never expected it to be a mere pre-update.
I still loved what I read. Very excited. :)

    16. Jables D Brew on January 12, 2013

Here have a handful of excitement - I seem to have an excess of excite at the moment. What I mean to say is: AAAHHHH!

Just a heads up. When you say: "Keep in mind that this is an early build and is intended as a progress report, not as a demonstration of final gameplay." I'd put this phrase all over the demo video if I were you, because people often seem to *WANT* to misunderstand early footage.

    22. ET3D on January 11, 2013

I'll be waiting somewhat impatiently. :)

    23. Paul Marzagalli on January 11, 2013

I don't need it to look or play like some AAA game. I need it to look and play like WL, FO1, and FO2. It's all about the mechanics and the narrative, not about the looks. If someone gripes otherwise, I respectfully suggest that you backed the wrong Kickstarter.

I can't wait to see this footage. Congrats on the great progress!

    24. T.J. Brumfield on January 11, 2013

I'm excited, but patient. I waited years for this, so I'm not concerned about the release date or the speed of progress. I just want you guys to make the best game you can for the budget you're afforded.

    25. Kermode Bear on January 11, 2013

Awesome; I'm very much looking forward to this. I'm sure you're proud of what you've accomplished so far, and I'm also sure that we won't be disappointed. Thank you!

Spectacular, can't wait to see it!

    27. Bertrand Guérin-Williams on January 11, 2013

Oh sweet! Finally another update with new infor--Oh wait, no. It's just a teaser for an update with a video and information. Yay.

I love what you've done so far, but more regular updates would be appreciated. I understand pre-production and the beginning of actual production probably won't yield very much content that you can/want to show to the backers, but more updates would be really nice.

    28. SV on January 11, 2013

Thank you so much for offering such early footage. I'm sure you know, whatever you produce will invariably be criticised to death, but I admire that you will be willing to sift through the complaints to find constructive ideas about how to improve the game.

    29. George32027 on January 11, 2013

Great news! Can't wait to see the dialogs in particular.

    30. Jordan York on January 11, 2013

      Exciting stuff. Can't wait!

    31. Crusader_bin on January 11, 2013

Oh, hard to wait even for the next update :) It's actually progressing faster than I thought it would though! Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity - I think those two will be biggest Kickstarter games released and possibly that will start some changes in this business! ;)

    32. mosfeusz on January 11, 2013

Exciting! But how am I suppose to wait whole month now?

I look forward to it. We wouldn't have funded it if we didn't have faith in you. Please take the time necessary to make Wasteland 2 the game you want it to be.
