Hello Exiles!

Wasteland 2: Director's Cut is OUT NOW on Windows, Mac and Linux for Steam and GOG.com users!

To play, login to Steam, visit your Library page, and look for the new Wasteland 2: Director's Cut game entry. You will need to download this version of the game separately, but it will not replace your existing Wasteland 2 install. If you are a GOG.com user, you can grab it on your Account page there.

Other third party stores on PC will be rolling out soon over the course of the coming day. Stay tuned for updates from them if you have Wasteland 2: Director's Cut on a store other than Steam or GOG.com, such as Origin.

Meanwhile, console retail and digital release is scheduled for today in the Americas, and October 16 for Europe, so keep an eye out if you are looking to pick up a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One copy.

We've created a Wasteland 2: Director's Cut release FAQ covering many common questions, which you can find here, so take a look if you are in a reading mood while you download.

Today marks the end to another leg of our game development journey through the world of Wasteland, and we are honored to have shared it with you. Now, all we can say is: enjoy!

Thank you,

if I backed on kickstarter but never renewed, can i still get my game I pledge 15$ for?

A late comment, but: thank you for working on this upgraded edition InXile! I've been playing it for about 20 hours and really enjoying it. I appreciate the effort you guys took!

Tried the Directors Cut for a couple of hours now. Seems to work ok, but two questions:

      1. Why are all the members of Team Echo untextured (completely white)? This makes them a bit difficult to tell apart, and no other characters suffer from this...

      2. What happened with the local map that used to be available in the Log Book?

Does this fix the many problems with the awful story? Is the Prison area still a railroading trainwreck?

What about mod support? will this have steam workshop added at some point? I haven't redeemed my key yet and have been wondering steam or gog with steam workshop being the deciding factor.

Joining the question, will be there any upgrade plan to PS4 for backers?

Was never able to advance much due to aging PC, and not looking to upgrade it due to having PS4.

mwalimu - not on my linux box at the moment to test things, but it looks like folks around the place have had similar issues with this and other games:

Hmm, steam version on linux starts, badge spins in the corner, then it crashes. The only error seems to be
ERROR: ld.so: object '$HOME/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

Turning off the steam overlay for the game doesn't help. Guess I'll wait for the GOG version to show up. I didn't really want to stay up late tonight anyway.

I was wondering if it were possible to get a code for Xbox One, or maybe at least a discount. I am not really a PC gamer and I'd rather use my console to play - I still haven't gotten around to playing yet but this was one of the first KS I did :)

Just dropping by to say I'm immensely happy to get a free update to Director's Cut. Devs and publishers tend to call that kind of overhaul an "expansion", which of course comes with a price tag. It's no wonder you built a base of super maniac fans. You are thoughtful of your fans expectations. I've backed some projects in Kickstarter, and Wasteland 2 is by far the one that more thoroughly fulfilled my expectations.
You've come a long way Inxile. I'm happy the crowdfunding model ended up fitting you well because you'll keep bringing great stuff to gaming.
      Here's hoping for Wasteland 3.

Woohoo! I actually had so many new Kickstarter games coming in (and just new console game releases) that I didn't start playing Wasteland 2 yet after getting my physical version shipped to me. I was going to start it a few months back, but heard about the Director's Cut. I'll definitely have to go download this and fire it up soon, 8D! Surely it'll be the ultimate Wasteland 2 experience! ^_^

I've just given DC a little spin and from the looks of it the frame rate has improved quite a bit. And the new character models are so much better than the original had as well as the improved shaders. So good job on those. Increased voice acting adds to atmosphere as well, so overall great work. It'll be fun to go through this again with all the new added stuff.

    19. Kim Fredrik Svendsen on October 13, 2015

Guys guys great idea! What about a Director's Cut of Wasteland 1 for tablets and phones! Updated still pictures art, and updated GUI. I might be wrong but it could be easy-quick to make (and profit from) in my limited consumer perspective imagination atleast. Guaranteed a handheld hit if the graphic drawings up in the corner are nice, and the GUI a little more up to date. Just re-use GUI art from W2 Dir.Cut? :D (Im 41 and feel like im to young to be tempted by the original W1 graphics.) Hire a cool cartoon artist and re-do the old ones. Or hire a company to remake it if the old code cant be re-written!

Baldurs Gate and Banner Saga on my iPad was frustrating. They felt much smoother and faster on PC. W2 would prob also be sluggish with its multiple gigs and graphics. But W1 with its little window with gif cartoon style still-animations up in the corner and the rest as text based graphical user interface would be a perfect light weight game for phones and tablets. Light as in megabytes, a frustrating thing on iOS devices with bigger games. I often need to delete other games to install big games like Banner Saga or Baldurs Gate.

If it is not to much work I think it would be a hit without doubt.

Will my saves from the original version be working on the DC?

    21. Magentawolf on October 13, 2015

So.. I've been slacking, I admit, and never redeemed any of my keys yet. If I grab the Steam key from the Ranger Center and plug it in, I'll get access to the Director's Cut, right?

    22. Mark O'Toole on October 13, 2015

Thanks for the clarification, I had no idea it was 64-bit required!

    23. inXile entertainment Creator on October 13, 2015

@Shinjica Practical distribution reasons for console retail. It's same day for PC, which is all digital.

@Mark O'Toole One reason to do this is WL2DC requires a 64-bit machine where the original still ran on 32-bit, so some may want access to the original. If you want it hidden from your Steam library, right-click it, go to "set categories" and click hide from library.

    24. pat andrews on October 13, 2015

Glad I read the FAQ. Since I am living in the past with a 32-bit OS, I guess I can't enjoy the Director's Cut.

    25. Mark O'Toole on October 13, 2015

So am i going to be left with a 'ghost' copy of the game on my steam account? Seems a bit crude. Why not just replace the old app id, or at least remove it?

      @Valeriy, Dmitri Seletski:

it's in your library. the game on the store front seems to be something different to the version we are getting.

      still no linux version though.

    30. Valeriy on October 13, 2015

No Linux version on GOG for existing backer.

P.S. Windows version on GOG is also absent, so I do not think this issue is platform-specific.

    31. Steve Dozniak on October 13, 2015

Oh, well, just read about the consoles. No worries, I'll buy a copy there, of course!

    32. Steve Dozniak on October 13, 2015

You know, Brian, this is a completely different game!

Graphics are five notches up since the first version, I can actually look at it without bleeding my eyes! And it looks GORGEOUS.

It's also FAST. And SMOOTH. And I hope I will be able to finish it now, just because fighting the Q/E camera controls got the best of me last time.

The game is totally worth it, thank you very much!
PS. Any chance original backers could get a hand on PS4 version somehow?

as of this writing there's no download available for the gog linux version.

you should know by now that gog linux installers take extra time... so why not give them the game sooner so we don't have to wait? seriously...

    35. Kim Fredrik Svendsen on October 13, 2015

Some thoughts about possible new KS: We old and grey fans have been waiting and hoping like forever for Van Burren or another true F2 follow up. But the battle seems lost for good now.. What about using another super dark hit from the 70ties and 80ties: 2000ad Judge Dredd. If Fallout is 50ties themed sci fi Dredd is 70ties themed sci fi. Brian and team just read the first Dredd cartoons, the dark humor is right up your street. Like when he shots that innocent little happy girl with her brain in a fish bowl, and hes mentor tells him to use tighter boots to forget about it. No other game or movie have touched on the brilliance of Dredd, the dark humor, unique story telling and twisted predictions of the future. In the future earth contains of a few Megacity's and the rest is a toxic wasteland. Record breaking extreme Olympics are on the Moon, and contenders may use a limited amount of drugs and robotics implants. Of course they are cheating. Some heads blow up etc, its just great fun all around! Or what about the League of Fatties, Pug Ugly, Dredd's hilarious household robot Walter, etc etc, it never stops.

    36. Kim Fredrik Svendsen on October 13, 2015

Hey, originally I got the old W2 on GOG when it was first released, but quickly found out I did not like GOG because of the way they solve updates. Im on a slow line and Steam would work out much better and a lot easier for me here. Can I change to Steam for the directors cut?

    37. Rick on October 13, 2015

      Oh god no edit button.

"the original Wasteland 2 is NOW obsolete right? We can forget it exists, delete it and go with the DC from now on?"

    38. Rick on October 13, 2015

So let's say I haven't finished Wasteland 2. Does it make sense for me to delete my original install and start over with the DC? (Ok. I'll admit it. I've only played maybe 5 hours so I'm not losing much.)

I guess I'll ask explicitly - the original Wasteland 2 is not obsolete right? We can forget it exists and just go with the DC from now on?

      Thanks!

    39. inXile entertainment Creator on October 13, 2015

Regarding the GOG version of the game. I've got two keys, one activated on Steam, one on GOG. Director's Cut was added to my Steam Library, but not on GOG - it's there, but just to buy. Actually, there has alwys been a difference in versions. Steam key being of the Classic Edition, and GOG - of the Standard Edition. Wasteland 2 Standard Edition isn't even listed in the GOG catalog (although I can access and install it from my Library) - so maybe there is just no Director's Cut Standard Edition?

    43. inXile entertainment Creator on October 13, 2015

@Evan Darrow - check your Account page: https://www.gog.com/account

You should be seeing it as a separate game entry in your library. If not just yet, then chances are they are still rolling things out.

    44. Evan Darrow on October 13, 2015
