Wasteland 2 Director's Cut Release Date!
Hello Exiles,
We have some big news to share with you today, so we'll just cut right to the chase. Wasteland 2 Director's Cut will be releasing digitally on PC on October 13, 2015! Additionally, for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, digital and physical releases will be coming on October 13th in the Americas, and October 16th Worldwide!
As we've said before, anyone who already owns Wasteland 2 on any digital PC retailer will be getting the Director's Cut as a free update on PC. We'll have more information as we get closer to release, but it's our intention to make sure it's as easy a process as possible. Keep your eyes peeled on our Wasteland 2 forums as we'll be putting up FAQs and similar in the coming weeks towards release.
For those of you who are still curious about the Director's Cut contents, features, and changes, or may have missed our discussions on them previously, here are some links that go over some of those new elements in detail.
- Quirks, a new set of gameplay-modifying personality traits and characteristics for your squad.
- Perks, new bonuses you will be able to pick for your characters as they level up.
- Precision Strikes, a combat technique allowing you to you target enemy body parts to inflict debilitating effects and injuries.
- Upgraded to Unity 5, featuring redone environments, lighting, and character models.
And those do not even fully cover all the new additions, like new and expanded voice-over for many of the game's key NPCs and companions, as well as our extensive rebalancing of virtually every combat encounter, loot drop, and item you'll find in the game.
We're now in the home stretch of development. Our final tasks in the several weeks before final release include polishing up the game as much as we can, including tweaks, optimizations, fixes and balance adjustments. We hope you will enjoy the changes and updates as much as we enjoyed bringing them to you.
New Screenshots
We've got a bunch of new screenshots ready for you for this announcement, showing off some of our graphical updates and changes to our environments and character models. Our art team has worked tirelessly to make sure the Wasteland is more vibrant and detailed than ever, and we're extremely pleased with the results.
Last Call for Wasteland Playing Cards
As you may well be aware, we've partnered with Jackson Robinson and Kings Wild Project to provide you with some awesome Wasteland-themed playing cards. His campaign is in its final hours with just over one day left, so if you want to pick up some of these backer-exclusive cards, now is your last chance.
E3 Coverage & Gamescom
As we mentioned in a previous update, we were at E3 2015 in June, and we had a great experience. It's exciting and useful for our development to actually get people playing this new version of the game, and we wanted to share some of the E3 coverage with you if you'd missed it previously:
There are preview write-ups from GameReactor, RPGFan, iDigitalTimes, Hardcore Gamer, and Xbox Achievements in English, as well as non-English coverage from vgBR.com (Portuguese), GeeksAndCom (French), IGN IT (Italian) and 9lives (Dutch).
In addition to interview content in the above, there are interviews with Brian Fargo from GameCrate, Akihabara Blues and Press Start TV.
That's not the last of our public showings, though - we will also be demoing Wasteland 2 Director's Cut at Gamescom!
See you next time!

Will the modding toolkit be released at this time? I'm still hopeful. . .

So no graphic comparison screenshots between these new ones to the old engine?

@Мирзиёд Мирусманов:
Нет, игра будет выпущена как самостоятельный продукт. Наличие оригинальной версии вообще не требуется.
No the game will be released as a standalone product. The original version is not needed at all.
@Joseph Le May:
What makes you think it will not be released on Mac?
inXile way is past that state of mind when Windows == PC. Or are you among those guys still insisting that Mac is NOT just a PC only with different OS?
Josh Robinson on July 31, 2015
I too am curious about the possibility for a discounted ps4 version :)
Мирзиёд Мирусманов on July 31, 2015
Great news! I only have one question - will this major update make all the previous ones unnecessary? I mean, can I install it on the very first version of Wasteland I've downloaded from GOG, disregard all the updates that came after (till Director's cut) and get the latest version?

It isn't listed, so should I assume there's no Mac version?

I've said it before, but repeating it won't hurt. The improvement on the graphics and charcter models is pretty damned impressive. It'll be fun to play W2 through again after this releases and compare the two versions a bit.
Stas Oskin on July 30, 2015
Second on that, will be happy to trade off my PC copy for a discounted PS4 one.
André Konietzny on July 30, 2015
now: is there an option coming for PC owner to get a PS4/XBONE key? (maybe discount?... if it has to be this way... ;( )
would like to play it on my PS4, but i dont buy games more then one time! :)
Chris Brind on July 30, 2015
You folks must be considering an iOS version by now? I would re-buy it to play on my iPad Air 2 =)

Release on my birthday! Whohoo :)

Despite backing this I still havent gotten around to playing it and decided to delay after hearing about this directors cut. Regarding the screenshots, are there any before/after comparisons so we can see how different they are?

Never mind, Brian Fargo confirmed that "PC" not only means Windows PCs, but Macs and Linux PCs as well! https://twitter.com/BrianFargo/status/626832822657912832
Adam Lichi on July 30, 2015
great- never even got to play my backer copy because of the retarded-ass DRM
now i have to pay for this version if i ever hope to play this fucking game.
riveting.

When you say "As we've said before, anyone who already owns Wasteland 2 on any digital PC retailer will be getting the Director's Cut as a free update on PC." does "PC" include Macs and Linux PCs or are you only including PCs with Windows?
Lokai on July 30, 2015
Damn it, I should have read the comments already. Apologies! Ignore my question haha. I will finish it first.
Lokai on July 30, 2015
This is all excellent, but I have one big important question: will all of those changes and improvements require me to start a new game? I'm something like 50 hours into the game and I kind of burnt out a while back, but I was intending to start playing it again a week or two after that happened. However, I saw all of these updates on the Enhanced Edition and thought that I might want to wait for all of this huge improvements, but now it is just occurring to me that they are so significant it might require a new game. Any word on that?

Thank you so much for releasing on the same day as the console versions, no exclusivity or timed breaks combined with the FREE upgrade for existing owners... that's just above and beyond awesomeness, thank you <3
J.R. Riedel on July 30, 2015
I'm looking forward to Director's Cut and wish I could justify the playing cards... But I destroy cards so I can't shell out the money :(
MikeHumphreys on July 30, 2015
I'm not a game designer but I'm a bit curious. With all of the upgrades, new features, and switch to a new game engine... how would that compare to the total team time commitment to create say Wasteland 3? 10%? 25%? 50%? I'm looking for a best educated guess, not an etched in stone answer.
Shu Sam Chen on July 30, 2015
I'm a little sad about that, but it's perfectly reasonable. Thanks for responding.
inXile entertainment Creator on July 30, 2015
@Shu Sam Chen - saves won't carry over, the changes we've made to the game are too extensive and far-reaching to allow for save compatibility. But we will try to make sure the original vanilla version is still available for those who want to continue an existing game.
Shu Sam Chen on July 30, 2015
Are saves compatible?
