Updated our Journal...

Posted by inXile entertainment (Creator)

You’ve got to be freaking kidding me!! We just funded in six hours!?!?!

Our heads are still spinning at the incredible response we have had from today's support of our Kickstarter campaign. We had plans to roll out our stretch goals and to write our Kickstarter updates but never in our wildest dreams did we think we would fund this quickly!!! We are joyfully scrambling right now to get a longer update and some stretch goals in front of you as soon as we can. We should have more to say later today.

You are all unbelievably awesome and we could not be happier about receiving your trust in us. For many years we have wanted to get back to making this style of RPG but it appeared that the market was going everywhere but that direction. Almost every article and new game was focused on being an MMO, multi-player or micro-transition based. This wasn’t our style and we couldn’t generate interest in the classical narrative type of RPG that we all grew up making and playing. Thank you for backing our vision once again and we will not let you down. We will continue to communicate and and make sure we solicit input such that the game is hitting all the right notes.

Our goal is to make great RPGs for you all for the rest of our careers.

Thank you,

Brian Fargo and the team at inXile

It's so delightful that so many people are willing put their money where their mouth is. For years we have been wanting this style of RPG's to return, but no big publisher has listened. And now we have kicked several off the ground.

      Their Unworthy Heads on

So, that Planescape game.... Pretty popular I hear...

Can't wait to see what you guys have in store. The concept artwork so far is just amazing!

    3. Nemo Pohle on

That was amazing to watch, really looking forward to the next 30 days. The best thing about all this is seeing that you are not alone, not the only one missing some simple awesome singleplayer game which is all about the story and the experience. Crytek says people should get used to singleplayer dying - I say it's coming back with a vengeance!

    4. barberio on

Freakin' awesome! I'm looking forward to the release of both games!

Here is the moment in time...…

    6. John Lacy

Yet another example of publishers not knowing what the people want ^_^ Wasteland, Doublefine, Star Citizen, now Torment ^_^

    7. Roger on

Deserved. But you can collect more if you add the players guide (digital) as a payable add-on for all tiers. Thanks in advance!

    8. Daniel Abensour on

Utter awesomness! I can't wait to see the stretch goals!!

    9. Taylan Ertan on

What can I say, when the project is good ... you can't fund it fast enough. Now you guys worry about the game and let kickstarter do its thing !

    10. Chris Larsen on

Once again you guys prove the "Market" wrong by simply asking people to support a great idea if they want to see it come to life. Forget the mainstream giants, I can't wait for all the great games coming from the little guys.

Congrats inXile, I know the finished product will be great.

      Jeff Kagel on

Yup. Time to start thinking about the next old school game you guys can revamp. Wasteland... Torment... What's next? :)

    12. Troy Sanders on

      Outstanding! EXCELLENT! Backers Unite!

    13. Shane Schrupp on

Congrats! Just want to throw in my extra two cents that if I could play this with a friend or 3 I would have thrown my money even faster. Games are just more fun for me when I can share them with the person next to me, but I'm still happy this is getting made.

    14. Jamil Ismaili | Eternal Dreamer on

      Congratulations - well deserved !

    15. Jean-Luc Picard on

Enough with the mmo, micro-transaction bullshit, we want TORMENT!

Congrats! And Thank you for giving us the prospect of a great Torment game!

    22. Draco on

Woot! Grats! And throwing it out again (and probably again and again) please make an option for a female protagonist.

    23. Aaron on

gimme stretch goals! modron cubes! sarcastic skulls! burning men!

    24. Armin Momtahan on

And thank YOU for bringing back this type of game :D

    25. David Scott on

And thank you! Thank you for not giving up on a genre of game that just hasn't been the same for years! Thank you for so many great hours of entertainment that I have been able to share with people I'm close with!

    26. Danton McCreadie on

Many congratulations to you inXile. I look forward to seeing how far this game can go with its narrative. Best of luck to you all, and thank you for being awesome. =)

    27. Emery J. Huang on

So glad to fund this. I'm happy inXile is breaking away from the awful corporate influence with its graphs and sales charts and is doing what every developer should do: making games from the heart.

    28. Christian Le-Kroken on

      Congratulations! Can't wait!

      Daniel on

If this game is even half the game Planescape: Torment was, the money would still be well spent.

Kudos all around. Can't wait to have my single-player RPG goodness back. First Wasteland 2, then Project Eternity, now this. BACK ALL THE GAMES!

    34. Lordlylump on

Again. Congratulations! I can't imagine how this must feel. :)

    35. Charlie Shannon on

If this is anything like what wasteland 2 looks like in its ore alpha video I will love it. Especially the combat system. I miss old tactical RPGs as they seem to be dying out.

    36. gandalf.nho

      Congrats inXile!

    37. Stephen Williamson on

Awesomesauce. Can't wait to see what's going to get added in with stretch goals. I know you guys will keep it both amazing and doable.

    38. Michał Przybylak on

Hehe it was up by 150k $ before I even finished reading XD "shut up and take my money" just got a new meaning... magic of a Torment word, I guess (pledged 45$)

    39. William James Cuffe on

Congratulations, and I'm jealous as all hell at your success! It just goes to show you that listening to the industry is the wrong way to go -- focus on your vision and others will support you...

    40. Craig on

Brian and team I am just so happy for everyone right now!

    41. Ron Lugge on

Of course we're not kidding you, you really did fund in six hours.

I have to say, your response to our trust is shocking, just shocking. I may have to reconsider putting any trust in a company that has that big of a self-confidence issue. Given the power of the PS:T brand, and the complete lack of any game remotely similar to it in the last ten years, it was inevitable that you would rapidly make this goal.

Shocking, really, that you didn't expect this and have your plans laid. Just shocking.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment with my doctor -- they need to perform surgery to remove my tongue from my cheek.

If we can get another $100k in a couple hours, we'll be the fastest Kickstarter to $1M!

    43. Korg on

congrats to all of us :D

      You guys rock!
