Updated Our Journal (61): Release Date!

Hello Exiles,

Today's update is a little on the short side, but I think you'll forgive us this time…

We are extremely excited to announce that Torment: Tides of Numenera will be releasing February 28th, 2017! It has been a long journey, and without your help on Kickstarter it would never have happened. We could not be happier to be delivering a successor to the Torment name and legacy, and we look forward to you enjoying it early next year.

When the game releases, those of you who already have your Steam keys redeemed for the beta version of the game will auto-update to the final build, and those of you who are planning to enjoy the game DRM-free from GOG will be able to as soon as that version is ready. We will also make a key exchange option available around that time for those of you who want to deactivate your Steam key and switch to GOG. At that point, most of the remaining digital rewards will also be made available to you.

For those of you with physical goods, we'll be prompting you to confirm your final shipping information in the near future. We do not have an exact shipping timeline for those goods just yet, but Techland is hard at work getting them ready for you as soon as possible. Please be sure to keep us advised of any changes by updating your shipping details on the Torment backer web site!

Rest assured that while we have our release date, that doesn't mean our work is quite done yet. We'll be using our remaining time to polish the game for you up to the last possible moment. And of course, once we get closer to release we'll have more news to share with you as well.

Chris Keenan,
VP of Development

I have been trying to find a release time for the game tomorrow, but have been unable to find one. So could one of you nice, handsome and competent inXile staff tell me? Any timezone is fine (as log as it's stated), I can convert =)

How do I go about claiming my GoG code?

I will never play your game till you fix your God Damn Portraits you stupid Liberals!

There is no reason for you to change those portraits. In fact the only two that work are the main characters and Aligern. The rest are complete and total trash! not only that they almost all look the same. I am going to have to wait till people create mods so I can remove your lack of vision from a game that was supposed to be the Planescape Torment!

http://buy.tormentgame.com/ does that look like your in game characters?

Does that look like Callistege in the game? No Callistege in the game looks like some old African or some Old Gypsy idiot with things in her hair.

      The character looks horrible!

and my God what is the deal with all the hand holding in the beginning of this game. It's bad enough that you reveal tons of lore that practically takes away the mystery but you treat the player like F##cking moron!

Seriously, the ONLY reason something like Baldur's Gate or Planescape:Torment even COULD exist is because they were PC GAMES and not shitty console drones. Seriously, the things aren't that powerful, PCs have the exact same features(plus thousands more) and a modestly priced PC is already more powerful than the upgraded versions of the new consoles. Consoles have killed more of my favourite game series and developers than I care to think about. Sure, I own some, but given the chance to play a game built with a keyboard and mouse in mind or a controller... no questions. And why are so many backers even PS4 fanboys? How did you guys put down Uncharted 7 long enough to see a PC-centric spiritual successor to a wholly PC-only, console-unfriendly game like Torment was having a Kickstarter?!

Rant done. Seeing as how people spew hate on Kickstarter pages (normally at the developers) I decided to get in on the fun. Hope the PS4 Pro and X-Bone S have a massive recall because they turn their users sterile.

    5. PegasusOrgans-AGL 589 on December 19, 2016

Who backs a spiritual successor, or actual sequel, to a hardcore PC RPG and then expects a console version?! I'm not emailing Nintendo demanding to play Mario on my PC. Why? BECAUSE CERTAIN GAMES BELONG ON CERTAIN PLATFORMS. Why not demand a 3DS version while you're at it?? Hell, nowadays, using a controller w/ a PC is so easy, that it blows my mind people still say this nonsense.

I play most games on consoles nowadays and if there was an option for a PS4 copy I would have selected it when I backed. With Wasteland 2 there was a long delay between the PC version and the eventual console port, so I was fine with buying the console version afterwards, but if Torment is going to have simultaneous release on console and PC, I'd like to be able to trade my PC backer key towards a PS4 copy, even if it meant paying in a little extra. Please let us know?

I would prefer my key on ps4. Any news on that please?

    8. Paul Bransford on December 17, 2016

It really stinks that we have to choose between GOG and Steam. Why not allow both? GOG is already hooked in to steam and is adding duplicated items as they can, why can't this be one of them? (they call it "GOG Connect")

Here's another backer interested in switching to a PS4 version. I'd be willing to throw in some more money to that end, if required. My pledge included a version of Wasteland 2 but I ended up purchasing the PS4 version anyway, I just really prefer playing on console when possible.

    10. Matthias on December 16, 2016

there is also the question why there haven't been an update about the console versions before. would have been great to be able to upgrade to a console version...

    11. Matthias on December 16, 2016

@Jack Hepburn Raine: I hope so too. but on the other hand we had it before, that non-backers were able to buy the early access version whereas collectors-backers had to wait because there was no alpha/beta included in that level... I hope it's not the same here, that the CE for non-backers is somewhat better than the version for backers.

    12. Jack Hepburn Raine on December 15, 2016

@MsDemeaner asked same question earlier but they missed that one out when replying, im sure this is the version we will get if backed at that level or an even better version, as they wont want to loose us as backers for POE2 which we have had surveys about.

I will buy a ps4 version just to have one.
I need to a video demonstrating the banter between characters. The banter that made Planescape Torment so famous. Mort, the sucubbus, half demon theif etc.
      Your pr is strange.

Grats on finally seeing a light at the end of a long and adventurous tunnel. :)

Tis not always easy to work on a crowdfunded project. May this journey bring you more glorious opportunities to share your love of stories and we'll built universes.

    15. MsDemeaner on December 15, 2016

So what is the story here?
I see items included in the retail version not listed in the Kickstarter CE contents (Traveller Book, Statue. Steelcase). None of these items seem to be listed in any backer lists.
Will these be included in the KS CE as well? How is the KS CE different from the Retail?
Why has this not been communicated before? I really hope that those of us that backed this at the Collectors level aren't going to be shafted here!
Some information please, and soon! I am a little concerned.

      Thanks,

Hey all, thanks for your questions!

      - Beta update: still coming, we hope to have that available soon!

      - Localized versions: yes, they are coming on final release, you won't need to wait for an update to play them!

      - Console copies for backers: we will let you know if we have any news there!

With all the things that happened (console downgrade, political agenda of McComb, Techland and RPG Codex, Fig), i am no longer interested in the game nor do i want to support inXile.

    30. alcaray on December 14, 2016

      @AGN1964

GOG is a fine way to house your game collection.

If you think you might miss the Steam community, then bear in mind two things: 1) there is a perfectly fine GOG community, and 2) the Steam community is just a website that you can visit if you want to, whether you bought the game from Steam or not (we frequently get Steam slummers visiting our GOG boards).

As far as achievements are concerned, GOG has a way to make them happen. It is a question of getting the developer and GOG staff to spend the time to make them work. It is possible that they will have achievements up and running on day one or there might be a 6 month delay or ???

    31. Stefan >> DEXYD << on December 14, 2016

so I checked my account (for the first time in 2 years or so) to see if my shipping adress was right.

There isn't any downside with GOG version. You are using game on you own - without Steam and other knowing that. But if you like steam statistics, achievements, community and tracking - go for it ;)

    34. Runeweaver – Tormented Teacher of WoOS on December 14, 2016

…and there was much rejoicing \o/. My anticipation is over 9000!
Haven't seen anything of the game so far, other than some *tiny* snippets and screen shots (like the start of the game, where you can apparently die before even staring properly). Really don't want to spoil *anything*.
And as far as that delay's concerned... the Sagrada Familia *still* is unfinished ;).

What is the downside to going the GOG route? DRM-free sounds good.

+1 for switching key to console, considering the 2 years delay and many of us backers have changed the gaming platform.

    45. Streamjumper on December 14, 2016

Add my voice to the chorus wanting to know if we'll be able to request a console code rather than Steam. A lot of us don't play PC as much as we used to and would like the option to get the game on our choice of platform (in my case, the Xbox One) which was unavailable to us at the get go. While some might argue that we signed up for the PC version, it can also be pointed out that we were signing up for a game due years ago which had no distribution partnership.
