The Voices on the Street

As we've been waiting to for the reviews to come in, we've gotten some feedback from some press that we wanted to share here. Since they couldn't be too detailed, they made it up by being especially declarative.

"The Bard's Tale does a great job of taking a modern approach while not losing its roots and old school charm. The voiced dialog, ambient sounds, and chatter of NPCs help create a very immersive adventure." - RPGamer

"'Bard's Tale IV' feels like a mix between such games as 'Legend of Grimrock' or very old 'Eye of the Beholder' series and early installments of 'The Elder Scrolls' franchise, particularly 'Arena' and to some extent - 'Daggerfall'. We have more freedom if compared to traditional crawlers, we are not doing the tango dance when fighting and we can do more things other than looking for that dagger +1 and that one pesky switch."- Gamezilla

and our personal favorite,

"It's a goddamn masterpiece." - ReviewFix/Old School Gamer Magazine

As the team was working some crazy hours to get the game ready, these comments were inspiration for us to keep going. For all the voices that we heard, though, the most important ones to be heard are yours, and today, we get to finally share with you this game that you helped empower us to create. We hope you like it, and we thank you for being a part of this amazing journey to bring back The Bard's Tale. Enjoy the game and welcome back to Skara Brae! You've been missed!

Any idea of when the Linux version will be released?

    2. Jeff Hammell on

Hi, same trouble. When logging into crowdox it says bards tale IV (digital - none). When I click the survey it doesn’t allow me to pick a download option. I’m hoping for gog.

Hey - I don't have a key, yet. My CrowdOx says Digital-None. Is this an issue I need to address with you, or with CrowdOx? Thanks!

    4. amigacooke on

I bet Microsoft are going to be real keen on macOS and Linux versions of this and future products.

    5. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

@eric Team is working on the Mac version now. No ETA yet.

    6. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

At our last check in with the shippers on Friday, worldwide shipping began a little under two weeks and will continue into this week. Backers should be getting shipping confirmation as their shipments get picked up. Sometimes those confirmations land in spam folders, so please periodically check there as well.

Could we have an update on the progress of the Mac version? We supported this project and hope we haven't been forgotten.

    8. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

@peter The key works for any version of the game, so when the Mac version is out, that key will allow you to play it.

    9. Peter Verdi on

I received my physical Collector's Edition and the Collector's Album Box earlier this week. I have a question about that - I didn't check, but since the MacOS version isn't out yet, I guess the game CD that is included with the Collector's Edition and Album box only contains the Windows version of the game. Will there be a chance that Mac users like myself will also get the an opportunity to receive the Mac version on CD once it's out? Thanks for any helpful reply.

Philip. you can open your Crowd OX form anytime and edit your backer survey. In fact, Crowd ox just improved the service. They will have sent you an email about it recently.

If you are still having trouble you can go to this link

if that does not solve your problem contact Paul Marzagalli (phimseto) at the Inxile forums

I never got a key I had forgot to pick GOG or Steam

    12. Selene Marsha Copelin-Bilko

Any word on when we'll get our physical items?

    13. Tomimt on

      @Doctor X
Go to the inXile forums and contact the mods, the red guys, there. They helped me and did it fast as well.…

    14. Doctor X on

I cannot get any response from CrowdOx, and therefore cannot get a game key. Can someone assist please?

    15. Selene Marsha Copelin-Bilko

Any word on the Physical rewards???

Roadmap/timeline until Linux version is available? Steam key installed, but not seeing it.

Horrible loading times. I'm not sure what the problem is with the graphics. They're not NEARLY pretty enough to justify all that lag. I play Elex at higher settings, and it looks MUCH better without nearly the hiccups. There can't be that much going on in the background to cause that mess.

    19. Paul Wilson on

I've been trying to fill out the survey, but I keep getting a "Project not found" error.

Credit where it's due, that's a *huge* improvement. I'd managed to get my key anyway through CrowdOx support, although it now sits idle on GoG until the Mac version arrives.

Nice. This is something that Crowdox should of had in the first place. It would have saved so much annoyance. Better late then never though.

    22. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

Hello everyone, just a quick bit of good news - CrowdOx has now set up a backer center where you can directly manage your rewards, making it more easily accessible than over email, please check this age for instructions:

Hi! I activated a GOG code. Now I have the base game. But I haven't any bonus digital stuff on my GOG account. It's only me or everyone have same situation? I think it's sucks.

    24. Dwerzy on

Have gotten the code for GOG no problem got it first day of release... but have gotten nothing of the digital rewards.. no code wheel, no soundtrack, in game items etc.... Please help me.

    25. Corpselocker on

Got my extras now. Ty. 100gb!, but ty :)

    26. Steve Osgood on

Found female character creation. It's under "Customize". Browse the portraits and you reach female characters.

    27. Rivethead on

@Tue - I don't think you're blind. I've been reading a lot of comments about missing characters and/or mis-matched characters (i.e. male elf voices, but only female elf character choices).

I'm hoping by Christmas, this game will be refined and playable.

    28. Tue

So am I blind, or did you not add female characters in character creation? Really seems odd especially for the humans.

    29. Steve Osgood on

Got my key, installed the game. Seems to be running successfully. However, are there plans to enable players to adjust the font size? Some of the text is hard for me to read.

    30. dx1 on

Finally I got the key. Generic mail as expected, of course. No reply from Katherine. :(

Now I'm waiting for the completion of the project like I do since 2015. Eight days from now loading times should be improved twice. Great! Setting the default settings to "responsible instead of ultra" automatically the day after tomorrow? I'm overwhelmed. Fixing translation before you go on to implement even better loading times, an iron man mode, and quality of life features to the game that screams "we didn't release a release candidate"? Well, I'm so happy you fix stuff before you add the little things that really tie the game together.

Mr Fargo, thank you for going on camera and explain this whole mess to your supporters.

    31. Ken "Toren" Leyhe - IcePack Games

Nope, no keys, no emails other than the one telling me to confirm and that has been done for a while.

    32. inXile entertainment 3-time creator on

      Hello everyone,

We believe all our our Kickstarter keys and digital goodies are distributed now. If you did not receive your key or digital goodies (including in-game items, find instructions on those under the Bardic Brian Skin), please check your email inbox or spam folder for emails from CrowdOx on how to complete your survey and indicate your key preference.

If you're having any further issues please reach out to use at

We're also monitoring your feedback on technical and gameplay issues and have a patch roadmap available here

Thank you again for your patience and understanding!

    33. dx1 on

I went through the "Site Issues? Contact CrowdOx". It's their way of spelling "s-u-p-p-o-r-t", I guess. Gorram "Powered by Typeform" keeps a full core of my i7-6800k on 100 % load, and utilizes about 10% of the CPU in total. Their "Katherine" responded within minutes, asking for my preference of key type. She also informed me about having "have passed your [my] feedback on to our [their] development team so that they are aware of the issue." I recommended her to leave that company which will fail before generating a big enough user base in order to attract some big player buying them.

When I look at GOG to see the Standard Edition at USD 16.49 is prized well below the USD 20 Early Bard's Pledge, and the Deep Premium at USD 22.99 cost only that much more, I feel reassured in the decision later in my KS participation to not back up projects like this anymore.

Now my money goes to "on top of our last successfully released project", "we know why our first attempt on our project failed", "it's our first thing and we're believable truthful about everything", and "seems nice, without me they may fail their initial goal". And I focus on newcomers and small businesses. I just close the tab when a campaign looks just like "as seen on Kickstarter".

    34. Corpselocker on

I have my key and have been playing the game, but I don't see a way to get all of the digital extras I pledged for from the CrowdOx system. No additional email has come my way.

    35. Missing avatar

      ArturoJPC on

I'm still waiting for my keys.
      The soundtrack has two CD-1.

    36. Missing avatar

      Mawthra on

Whoever packaged the soundtrack... wow... I paid money for that and it's missing artwork, basic tags, etc. What's the deal is that going to get fixed? And how about a FLAC option... it's 2018. How does the CrapOx process work if our stuff gets updated? Do we even get notified? Gosh this whole thing is so stupid

    37. Missing avatar

      Neo on

Hi! I received a GOG code and a bunch of bonus stuff as a standalone files.

Is it possible to add all bonus stuff to our GOG accounts? Thanks! :)

    38. mrfatso ~ Defender of The Goat on

I might have gotten my stuff from Crowdox , but i agreed with the others, it is just not a user friendly experiences, i find myself often going back and fro wondering alright, i think i did it??

Which isnt a good sight that even after going through the loops, you arent sure if you have managed to choose your selection or that things are a okay.

Good luck everyone, and according to a few reviewers, the game isnt optimised too well, so i might hold off playing for a few days

    39. Plumpbiscuit on

Why is Crowdox still being used? They're utterly useless, every single time with them something goes wrong.

Jason Huggins - Weresheep of Sin on

I.. what on earth is this?
It doesn't feel like a bard's tale game.
And there's something weird with the graphics that is giving me motion sickness.
And I'm expected to print out stuff for the game?
I.. what on earth is this game supposed to even be?
It feels like the combat system was dropped on it's head as a child.. and then handed directly to me to play with.
      Horror O_0 horror I say!

    41. Missing avatar

      Mawthra on

For everyone really ticked off about the extras, make a pledge now... pledge to not back another game if this is the way things are going to be handled... the people that helped make the game happen get the shaft? No way, never again

    42. Ian 'Smurf' Murphy

I have (finally) regained access to my crowdox listings. And It tells me that I have Digital-None at the top, and 1Gog Key at the bottom, but I have not received and of the emails that people mention indications that I have the ability to download and or install Bards Tail

    43. Kenn Mejer on

      Ok, thanx Andrzej.
Guess I need to find a printer somewhere then. :)

    44. Andrzej Zamojski on

There are codewheel shrines. You also need a book from the old adventurer's guild.

    45. Kenn Mejer on

Is the codewheel needed in game?
Do i have to print and assemble it, to be able to solve riddles in game or is it just a gimmick?

    46. QuiZZer on

Really not pleased with the way the extras were handled.

    47. Anaxphone

Definitely not a fan of how the distribution of the extras was handled. IT was irritating enough with Torment, but this is really cementing in my mind that next time I should just wait and buy it after release through GoG instead.

    48. Niels on

While I got my keys in time, I still have to wait for the Linux version. Luckily I didn't pledge for beta access, then I would be annoyed.

    49. Jeremie Lariviere

i may wait just in case there are a couple of patches, but i'm looking forward to playing the game!
