Way ahead of his time - before YouTube, before Snapchat, before Facebook and even before the internet itself – Paul Petroskey starting filming himself performing song parodies, music videos and unboxing videos, video blogging, sharing reviews and telling jokes. Now, thirty years and one thousand videos later, in the age of overnight YouTube sensations, Paul’s “overnight” still has not come. Everyday, Paul works for the views that fill his soul in hopes of also paying his bills and struggles with the question that all artists must face - when (if ever) do you give up on your dreams?
Will Work for Views is a documentary about Weird Paul Petroskey as he works to fulfill his lifelong passion of earning a living creating art through music and video. The documentary showcases the wonderful, strange, fascinating and weird world of Paul, the artist, the musician and the vlogger. His attention to detail and attraction to the mundane and bizarre has made him into a cult-like figure. In the last few years, YouTube has become his entire world; it has given him confidence, a purpose, meaning and an outlet for his art and creativity, but it hasn’t allowed him to support himself financially. Even when he’s been told he’s too old, too weird and too strange, Paul continues to believe in himself and fight for his dream.
Until YouTube's activation in 2005, the only way to watch Paul’s “vlogs” was on VHS tapes that were passed amongst friends in the Pittsburgh area. With hours of videotaped footage from his childhood to adulthood, Paul’s YouTube channel is not only entertaining but is also on the rise. For Paul, “likes,” “subscribes” and “thumbs up” are currency for his spirit but not for his wallet; however, as he works every day for views, his dream of making a living gets closer and closer. With over 12,000 subscribers to date, Paul relentlessly produces his lo-fi vision of sharing his homemade videos with the world.
Even though every day is a struggle, Paul is not giving up on his thirty-year quest for overnight success. We all face obstacles in pursuing our goals. Will Work for Views shows one man's quest to prove that he will stop nothing short of achieving his dreams.
Armed with cheap video cameras and an extensive collection of 80’s memorabilia, "Weird Paul" Petroskey has been a vlogger since 1984, with no plan of giving up. Since the birth of YouTube, Petroskey has uploaded over 900 home videos to share with the world. While Weird Paul is hardly a household name in America, in his hometown of Pittsburgh, he is an underground star in the rock scene and has an impressive discography of about forty tapes and LPs. Originally calling himself "Off-the-Wall Paul," he started releasing his own music on cassette tapes in the mid-eighties and later changed his name to "Weird Paul." Inspired by artist Wesley Willis, Weird Al Yankovic, Steve Martin and Dr. Demento, Paul has continued to mass-produce his own brand of DIY ear candy, recording over 750 songs.
We find stories that beg to be captured and shared and present them to the world in a beautiful way. Interesting Human's passion is storytelling.

Risks and challenges
When we first saw Paul online, we fell in love with his passion and determination. As we got to know him, we realized that like so many driven people, Paul was struggling to make a living from his art. We just knew that we had to share his work and his plight with the world because we identified with him and saw ourselves in him. Achieving your dreams, especially as you get older and lose a lot of childlike innocence and confidence, is no small feat, but Paul continues to press onward, putting all of his time and energy into his art and passion. He doesn't just create videos; he awakens in us a nostalgia and a longing to achieve our own dreams and live out what we often tell young people - to never give up.
With your support, we can make this film the best it can be and share Paul's story with the world. We want your support so that we can SUPPORT PAUL; we want to drive traffic his way and help him reach his goal of supporting himself doing what he loves. We'd love for you to be a part of that mission.
Although much of the heavy lifting that goes along with creating this documentary has already been done, there's still a lot to do. We have put up our own money to take it this far, but there's a lot left to go. The funds that we are looking to raise here are completion funds - funding that will help us achieve the best possible quality throughout the remaining post-production and distribution phases. That’s important to us because the more polished the film is, the more festivals we go to, the more distributors see our work, the more reach Paul's message will have. Your donations will elevate this film from a passion project to a high-quality, theatrical endeavor worthy of the 30 years Paul has put into his art.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
