We’re creating a new web series showing how intentional communities demonstrate holistic solutions to the systemic problems the world faces.
Check our the pilot episode and help us produce the first season of Planet Community!
Your contribution towards our $9,000 goal will allow us to launch Planet Community!
This crowdfunding goal will fund a Midwest tour, which will produce 4 new episodes featuring different Intentional Communities. We will also build webpages for sharing expanded content on each featured community, and produce an in depth article series in Communities magazine.
As a bonus, we will also produce a series of short question and answer videos exploring the basic ideas of what Intentional Community is all about.
What's Coming Next?
Once we finish production following the Midwest tour we’ll start working on the next tour. Next we’ll cover the West Coast, then the East Coast. As the tours progress we’ll develop additional content to share.
So your contribution not only allows us to start the Planet Community series, it also helps to collect footage that will lead towards our ultimate goal: to create a feature-length documentary!
We believe that human society has the capacity to support the health and wellbeing of all life.
Recognizing that the health and wellbeing of one depends on the health and wellbeing of all, we can’t wait to shine a spotlight on some of the empowering, inspiring examples of communities working towards this.
Help us to Spotlight Cooperative Solutions
Please make a contribution to this campaign to complete the Midwest tour of communities. We believe that this project exemplifies our values of cooperation, sustainability, and social justice.
Season 1 of Planet Community, and future seasons planned for the Western and Eastern US, will explore and explain cooperative culture, and will aim to grow the communities movement.
Help us to share these cooperative solutions by supporting this campaign today!
Risks and challenges
The Fellowship for Intentional Community has for decades provided a range of print, digital, and film educational materials to help people cooperate and to build communities.
FIC runs Communities magazine, which for over 40 years has consistently created beautiful, thoughtful, well-organized quarterly magazines based on a variety of themes important to the cooperative culture and communities movements.
You can read more about the FIC and its work here: https://www.ic.org/the-fellowship-for-intentional-community/
In addition to many other programs to further this cause, FIC has a long history in creating physical products. This includes 7 Editions of the Communities Directory (including the last one which was Crowdfunded through Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/intentionalcommunity/communities-directory-a-guide-to-cooperative-livin), and most recently the Wisdom of Communities book series: (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/intentionalcommunity/discover-the-wisdom-of-communities-a-4-volume-book)
FIC was a partner in creating the 2-part Visions of Utopia films about 15 years ago, which has a similar premise, and which we were able to sell thousands of copies of. It remains a popular title, despite its age.
The Filmmakers have produced the crowdfunding videos for FIC for these projects, while producing video documentaries about communities and activism. The Filmmakers live at an ecovillage, so are deeply rooted in and connected to communities in the movement. Recently they're working on a show with TLC (The Learning Channel).
They have top of the line camera and audio equipment, HD drones, and necessary editing software and expertise to put the film together.
Based on our considerable experience in creating and delivering successful publications in this field, their amazing expertise in filmmaking, and our working rapport, we’re confident that we’ll be able to assemble and promote an excellent film series for everyone to enjoy.
We have already started the series, completing the pilot episode at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage.
We plan to shoot all of the footage starting in September, and to edit it, track it, and release excellent episodes every month starting then. This culminates in the first series concluding sometime around January, when films and other materials will be sent to supporters.
If there is any change to that timeline, or any concerns at all that come up, we’ll of course let supporters know right away!
Our budget for this project is:
$1,900 - Travel, Food, Accommodations
$2,700 - Pay for Travel and Filming
$1,700 - Editing and Production
$1,350 - Equipment and Software
$1,350 - Perks Fulfillment & Shipping
$9,000 - Total Budget
We are also applying for a few small documentary filmmaking grants, which may be able to help support the series and to promote it further.
Please contribute to help this beautiful series to become a reality!
