SteepShot (pat.pend.) is a manual brewing device for coffee. With minimalism and practicality at the forefront, SteepShot gives you an excellent cup of coffee fast wherever you need it.
- User friendly
- Easy to clean
SteepShot is a great experimentation tool. You can play around with grind size, brewing time, how much water you use, how much coffee you use and agitation. More details in the "Updates"-section.
To get you started, here’s the recipe we use:
- Metal filter (included)
- 14 g. Coffee, finely ground
- 2 dl. (max level) Boiling water
- 30 seconds brewing time
This is the recipe we swear by, but it all boils down to personal taste. Whether you like your coffee stronger or milder or perhaps you prefer the mouthfeel a paper filter gives you? (All types of Aeropress-size filters fit SteepShot). You might like the body and depth of a longer brewing time, or the clarity of a shorter one. With SteepShot, it’s up to you.Our friend Tim has kindly offered to further explain how to use the SteepShot in this video.
The important thing to remember when brewing with SteepShot is that the water needs to be hot; at least 90 degrees Celsius. Without steam, there’s no pressure, which means no shooting.
Here’s a video of Tim cleaning the SteepShot and doing a rinsing cycle with only hot water. Note that the SteepShot is dishwasher-safe. Also Note that we recommend pouring through a sieve and dump grinds in the trash/compost.
In everyday use with the standard metal filter, there are two parts to handle with SteepShot: the cup and the lid. If you wish to swap out the filter or give SteepShot a more thorough clean, you can simply dismantle the lid as shown above.
We know what you’re thinking. “This thing is too good to be true!”

We have been using 3D printing to make our latest prototypes. These take two days to make and cost 2500 NOK.
What we want to do now, is perfect the design and functionality in order to develop moulds and packaging for mass production so that we can ship to coffee loving homes world wide.
Any excess funds will go towards further development of SteepShot. We want to create a larger model that can brew more than one cup of coffee at a time as well as a portion dispenser to simplify «SteepShotting» on the go. We also want to create a larger, fixed model meant for cafés and coffee shops.
- 250 000 NOK SteepShot is born
- 350 000 NOK Development of accessories such as a coffee portion dispenser for taking the SteepShot on the go.
- 450 000 NOK Development of a larger SteepShot for batch brewing
Ari Halonen is the inventor of SteepShot. The idea came to him while he was doing the dishes one Autumn day in 2015. He assembled a prototype and realised its potential when he found his wife brewing with it one morning. She has been known to keep a safe distance to Ari’s brewing gear, which she calls “lab equipment”.
He brought the prototype to Tim Wendelboe, who’s coffee house was right around the corner from his home at the time, and with Tim’s stamp of approval, Ari had the confidence to move forward with further development of SteepShot.
Today, we have six fully functioning prototypes, the oldest of which is still going strong after over 6000 servings. With this crowdfunding campaign, Ari’s vision of making coffee brewing simple and easy for everyone is becoming a reality.
Risks and challenges
All new products have inherent risks involved. Although SteepShot looks simple, it requires accurate tolerances to allow for the pressure needed for pressure brewing. This means that it will require a high level of quality control.
Delays in shipping may occur if moulds need to be altered for proper tolerances. Our biggest goal is to make sure our product is delivered perfectly.
The manufacturers that we have chosen have decades of experience in manufacturing a wide array of consumer goods. We’re confident that with their experience and input, we will be able to successfully manufacture SteepShot.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
