Two years ago, we asked for your help through our first Kickstarter campaign.  Thanks to your support, you have helped us accomplish many things:

  • Signed a multi-album record contract with the Sono Luminus label.
  • Performed many concerts in the Washington DC area to critical acclaim at venues such as the National Gallery of Art, Strathmore Mansion, and The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
  • Released our first album, Sprung Rhythm, lauded by The New York Times as "brilliant" and "gorgeously recorded."
  • Received a 2014 GRAMMY nomination for Sprung Rhythm for Best Surround Sound Album.

Now we are asking for your help again!

Please consider supporting our concert on May 18, 2014 featuring four exciting premiere compositions as well as the release of our new album, American Aggregate.  Check out our video above by Nguyen Khoi Nguyen featuring two of the works to be premiered on this concert.  Filmed during our preparation for American Aggregate, the video documents the rehearsals of Oblivion by Nathan Lincoln-DeCusatis and Wordless Creatures by Julia Adolphe.  In addition, our concert on May 18, 2014 also includes the World Premiere of Characters by Levan Iordanishvili.  Finally, Inscape is pleased to have the opportunity of to give the North American Premiere of Carolisima Serenade by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, a giant of contemporary music.

Your financial contribution of any size will help us continue to perform and record new music by emerging American composers and present these works in concert programs that engage and electrify audiences.

As a 501(c)3 organization, your donation to Inscape is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

More about Inscape:

Founded in 2004 by Artistic Director Richard Scerbo, Inscape creates compelling concert experiences that engage audiences and provide exciting, accessible ways to explore both standard and non-standard repertoire.  Inscape’s performances have been praised by The Washington Post for their “guts and musical sensitivity,” and their 2014 Grammy nominated album Sprung Rhythm was recently singled out as “brilliant” and “gorgeously recorded” by The New York Times.

Inscape’s roots can be traced to the University of Maryland School of Music when Scerbo and other music students collaborated at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.  A majority of Inscape’s musicians are alums of the UM School of Music and count their experiences there as formative in their development as creative, forward-thinking music-makers of the new millennium.

Inscape has worked joyously and often with emerging American composers and is committed to presenting concerts featuring the music of our time.  Since its inception, Inscape has commissioned and premiered over twenty new works.  Its members regularly perform with the National, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Detroit, Virginia, Richmond, and Delaware symphonies, the Washington Opera Orchestra, and are members of the premiere Washington service bands.

Risks and challenges

There are numerous challenges to presenting a concert of this scope. These range from personnel management to music acquisition and beyond.

After recording two major albums, producing four chamber operas, and countless concerts throughout the Washington DC area, Inscape staff will be prepared to handle any problem with a carefully crafted solution.
