Win That War! is a real-time strategy game for PC that throws you way back to the old strategy classics, adding a touch of arcade feel. Its unique aesthetics are a nod to 1960’s American sci-fi.

Playable in solo, multiplayer, and MMO campaign mode, Win That War! aims to be a diverse and rich tactical experience, whatever type of play suits you best.

THE UNIVERSE

Win That War! is a massive scale real-time strategy game built on a unique concept. Have you been dreaming of an awesome experience of galactic conquest in a dynamic universe? We have. Win That War! lets you travel to multiple planets in a most wacky, colourful and generously chrome-plated universe, way away from old mother Earth.

Perhaps you're picturing yourself already, at the command of your own cosmic empire, ruling an army of gleaming robots from the comfort of your luxurious orbital fortress, while extending your influence on the filthiest technocrats in the galaxy by simply making the right hyperphone calls.

Stop. That's not it. Things don't come so easy in the real world. In Win That War!, you'll have to earn your keep with hard work and heavy brainwork, and even in the event that you'll get to the top, you'll have to keep fighting to stay there.

Win That War! - The day they made me rule the universe.

You might not yet be a hero, and you may well never become one. But you may still find yourself in charge of ruling the galaxy some day, and that isn’t something to just pass on.

To climb up that ladder, though, you’ll need a good bit of brains, a creative (read sneaky) mindset, and some solid management skills. You’re not getting there just by chance.

In Win That War!, you’ll start at the very bottom, sent into the stars by a corporation whose executives you’ll never meet, but who have a contract clearly stating ownership over your body and soul. Your goal? To prospect and harvest the rarest resources in the galaxy. The lucrative kind.

But as you might have guessed, you’re not the only one on the job.

3 intergalactic powers, one place at the top (and they're not sharing).

The Galactic registry counts three supergiant economical powers at the time, three mega-corporations with distinctly opposite ideals, that cohabit in a fragile equilibrium to preserve their common interests. Aside from these agreements, anything goes.

Each of these corporations has its own specific strengths and weaknesses, thence these seemingly mutually profitable contracts have become commonplace. But none of these galactic powers are striving for anything else than securing their place at the top of the galaxy’s economy.

This is why they rely on a vast network of hired operators, such as you, working to assert their side’s dominion over planet after planet, harvesting and building to reach their ideals.

While creating your avatar in Win That War!, you will choose one of these three mega-corporations, and join the fight on whichever side you decide to belong to. You will not only be fighting your way up the ladder of power, into the higher circles of your faction, but also to ensure its supremacy over each of the planets you visit.
Will you choose ATLAS Corp.’s terrifying firepower, the prosperity guaranteed by the Jonn Galt Consortium’s upgraded mining hardware, or the corporate idealism and expansionist policies practiced by NASCA?

Massively multiplayer: never be alone again.

Win That War! is, in the first place, a MMO real-time strategy game. We think it’s an underexploited potential on the current computer RTS scene, and intend to remedy.

We want players to find all the classical depth and intensity of RTS games, and wrap it in a communautary online experience, in order to offer near-infinite playability and a most varied player experience.

You’ll never be alone!

How does it work?

Whether you’re playing a quick game or an MMO campaign, planets and maps are generated procedurally by our engine.

Once the planet is generated, its surface is broken down into dozens to hundreds of differently shaped territories depending on its surface. Different biomes are combined to create planets with multiple environment types and topologies, enabling new gameplay possibilities.

Each of the persistent territories can be played simultaneously by a predefined number of players from each mega-corporation. Your goal is to make sure your side ends up dominating the whole planet!

THE GAMEPLAY

Exchange, control, communicate.

Win That War! will feature, namely, a corporation system, an immersive internal communication system, and the possibility to localize and join players from your friend list.

This system will let you be always aware of how your friends or associates are doing.

You will be able to see your avatar’s progress, connect with the other players on your map and see their profile, and use your mega-corporation’s internal hub and forum, that will let you tune in on the global situation and discuss tactics with all its members in real time.

Explore astonishing alien landscapes from the safety of your home computer.

Out with boring terran planets, what we want is to send you through exciting exotic environments with new curiosities waiting on every new world!

Win That War! can generate procedural environments, randomly, whichever game mode you choose to play. In solo and multiplayer matches, you will be able to choose the size and biome used to generate the map you will play in.

Thanks to your pledge on Kickstarter, Win That War! could have many more different biomes on release time. But even if biome types are not infinite, the layout of every map and their resource distribution are always new.

Unless you select a specific map, you’ll never find yourself in a place you already know!

Building your own base.

Don’t jump into a fight head first, always take your time to scan the area and find a safe place to build your base.

This will have a major influence on your tactical situation once you need to settle your command center and get your factories going. We personally like to settle in places enclosed by high mountains, which tends to reduce the enemies’ choices of possible attack angles.

Go from rags to riches.

They say money is power, and power is all you want, isn’t it?

Whether your goal is to become a filthy rich lobbyist, or an unmatched military strategist, you will need to start by obtaining resources. There are several different resources in Win That War!'s universe that have various degrees of rarity, market demand, and varying price ranges depending on that.

You will be able to use them for various tasks, starting with running your factories and building your units. The basic ones only require the most common material, called sharp crystal, that you will find in great quantities all around the basic biomes.

More advanced technologies unlock later on, and may require an array of precious consumables. These resources can be traded with friends or foes, so each player can use the cards in their hands as they judge best for their personal profit.

Upgrade your robot armies.

Rare resources, and well-invested money, will unlock access to advanced buildings and units.

Throughout the online campaign, you will unlock new blueprints and uncover the deep upgrade tree that Win That War! offers. We’re planning to have over 60 unit and building upgrades that will let you use many different playstyles!

Annihilate the enemy… maybe.

Thanks to all these powerful upgrades you will be able to invade the enemy base.

Planning ahead is always of the utmost importance, but once you jump into action, anything can happen and you’ll need to adapt fast!

But keep in mind that Win That War! is also about cooperation. You will often have to choose a field of specialty when building a base, and balance your strengths and weaknesses in order to survive. You won’t be alone to manage your build, and you can often cooperate with complementary players by establishing peer-to-peer contracts. And yes, this may also include having to trust your enemies.

We’re fully confident that you’ll make the right choices!

THE DEV TEAM

Brief history of the project.

Samuel and Chris, founders of the project, have always been passionate about making video games. They’re big-time fans of strategy and arcade games, and making an RTS with an old-school feeling has been a long-term project of theirs.

At the time they started the project, they were working as developers in a tertiary start-up. A bit later, they quit their jobs and decided to create their own game studio, Insane Unity, to develop Win That War!

At that time, the project was a lot different (and less ambitious) than what it has now become.

After some time, they met Sylvain, who gave the project the original art vision it needed. Inspired from mid 20th century science-fiction and vehicle design concepts from that time, he laid the foundation for a wacky and colorful retro-futuristic universe.

The studio.

The studio was officially created in january 2015 thanks to personal investment from the three co-founders and with help from a local innovation-driven start-up incubator.

The “young innovative company” status was obtained thanks to Chris’ and Samuel’s work, who chose to create their own homemade rendering engine, develop innovative netcode, and consulted researchers in Artificial Intelligence in order to develop new types of truly challenging AI.

Thanks to various technical breakthroughs in these domains, they obtained some support funds that made them start to rethink the game on a bigger scale. Unfortunately, these funds are hardly sufficient to go through with the scope of Win That War! as it has now become.

Today, the team includes 11 specialized members from different fields of development, 2D and 3D Art, sound design, music, game design, communication… The full team is working to offer the best possible experience, packed with fun and creativity.

An OST by the Bikini Machine.

To stick with the game's feeling, we wanted to have unique, over-the-top original musics, and the local 60's rock band Bikini Machine answered our call.

During a game, all the music tracks are dynamically mixed to adapt the music to every gameplay situation and follow player actions as well as in-game events. In collaboration with our sound designer Jpeg, the Bikini Machine are composing each track specifically to be used by the system.

They already forged a reputation around their name, throwing around psyched out grooves and wacky acid riffs. Inspired by rock sounds from the 60's with a more contemporary touch, their sound seemed tailor-made for WinThatWar!'s retro-futuristic universe.

Why Kickstarter?

We are very passionate about the project. Most of us have been working on games before, in the industry or as personal projects. But Win That War! is our game. We’re putting all our energy and knowledge into it to make the experience we would really like to offer players.

Now, we want it to become your game as well. By contributing to the project, you can ensure that we will reach the level of polishing that we want to aim for at release time. The backers’ money will be invested in ensuring optimal artistic quality, in both visuals and audio production. It will also be use to make us heard of and help build up a community.

Through this Kickstarter campaign, we want not only to find help funding the project, but also to form a solid community with which we can share an experience that will evolve over time. We will be upgrading many elements of the game, based on the players’ feedback.

We really hope that you will want to join the adventure.

You can also help a lot by just sharing this page to your connections, by retweeting this tweet, or by sharing this Facebook post. There’s no small contribution!

Risks and challenges

Our main concern is the fact that the game gets released in a sea of games coming out every month, and could just go unnoticed. Being an multiplayer online game, the biggest danger is that if too few people are playing online, the MMO campaign would feel somewhat boring.

That is why, additionally to using some of the funds to spend more time improving our communication, we built an engine that will adapt the size of the environment to the number of players engaged in a campaign, in order to limit player-empty maps and keep interesting multiplayer dynamics.

The main challenge concerning our team, is the development of our own technology. The game’s engine has been entirely created in-house, and is still being improved in the background over time.

Furthermore, we have developed an innovative netcode architecture, that will allow us to maintain very low server traffic, and reduce the risks of server failure or connection problems by a great deal.

So we have two challenges: technical success and visibility. But with the help of your pledges and other forms of contribution, we are very confident that success is at hand.
