No eggs? No milk? It's magic!
At Capital City Bakery, it’s about more than just cake- Our bakery was built on a love for food, a desire to foster community, and a passion for providing Austin with high quality pastries made from scratch. All of our baked goods are made fresh daily, cholesterol-free, and made from locally-sourced/organic ingredients when possible. We make it our priority to recycle and compost, and our bakery boxes are made from recycled materials. Did we mention that everything is also 100% vegan and completely delicious?
The connection between food, our health, and the world around us is undeniable- We’re dedicated to providing an alternative choice in attempt to preserve the environment, protect animals, and unite people through a love of food and a desire for progression.
In 2012, we opened up Austin's first vegan baked goods trailer, and since then the response has been overwhelming! We have been featured in several media outlets in our first year of business, such as the Austin Chronicle, The Austin American Statesman, VegNews Magazine online, and we were also featured on National Television on the Cooking Channel's Unique Sweets. We also have maintained a 5 star rating on Yelp since opening! We love our customers!
In just one year of being open, we have already outgrown our trailer operation and need to expand into our own kitchen to meet the demand! We have secured a location on E. Cesar Chavez street in East Austin, and have gone through the lengthy process to obtain permits for a buildout. We have the space, now we need your help to equip it!
With the funds raised from our Kickstarter campaign, we plan on purchasing the following items for our kitchen:
-Blodgett 2 Door Full Size Gas Convection Oven (Retail approx $3,000)
-Hobart 20 qt. Countertop Mixer (Retail approx $5100)
-2 Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixers (Retail approx $600)
-2 Aluminum Speed Racks (Retail approx $500)
-50 full sheet pans (Retail $8 each, $400 total)
-True 49 cu. ft. Stainless 2 Door Reach-In Refrigerator (Retail approx $3000)
-4 Stainless Steel Prep Tables (Retail approx $300 each, $1200 total)
As you can see, we're already over $13,000 and that's just a fraction of the equipment we need to build a working kitchen. We also need small equipment such as mixing bowls, whisks, measuring cups, and more!
When you donate to help us build our new kitchen, you're contributing to the expansion of our business; We have the following plans for our expansion:
1) More Menu Items- We have at least 8 cupcake flavors a day, and some of your favorite rotating flavors will now have a home on our daily menu (including Carrot Pumpkin and Fauxstess!). We'll also be expanding our offerings with more gluten-free, soy-free, sugar-free, and healthier options. Something for everyone!
2)Extended Hours- Can't get to our trailer between the hours of 12p-6p? Our new storefront will be open earlier for breakfast and later for your after-work treat! We'll also be open on MONDAYS, and we'll be hosting a Sunday Brunch with limited hours each Sunday!
3)Breakfast Menu- Can you say vegan croissants, muffins, and breakfast sammies? Oh my...
5)Cooking Classes- We want to open our kitchen up to our community by offering affordable plant-based cooking and baking classes taught by Kristen and other guest Chefs! Knowledge is power!

Risks and challenges
