Stands Update, Survey Questions

Posted by Inkwell Ideas (Creator)

As I've been pondering the project and trying to work out the financials, I think I can now safely say that we'll include 12 plastic card stands with each physical set of Monster Stand-Ins.  If that's not quite enough for you, you can pledge $3 for 20 more.

I also plan to put together a short survey for any backers to answer.  The questions a basically a democratic vote on some of the details of the project.  Here are a few, and if you have other questions I should include, please post a comment here. (Note, we don't need your answers now, just questions I may be overlooking):

  • What color should be each card's background?  (White, light grey, medium grey...?)
  • Should the backs of each card be the creature's silhouette (filled in black) or just an outline?
  • The stands can come in many colors.  Should they be all black, or would you want mostly black with some other colors mixed in? If so which colors?  Or would you want a complete mix? (Two or three of four to six colors each.)

I've also had a couple of people ask about having the minis each cut to the shape of the creature.  Unfortunately that would require a custom die cut for each card which adds an extra cost to each card.  So we won't be able to do that.  Plus, it gives less space to write the hits taken or monster number or special conditions on the card.

And finally (as mentioned before) if you're a regular of a forum or have a blog and can post about the project in a non-spammy way, please do!

      I think I would prefer white for the cards background, but wouldn't be opposed to light gray either...the back should show the creature's silhouette (filled in black)... for the stands, I think a mix of dungeon floor gray & black would be pretty cool.

      Room to scribble. Use a red marker and tick a corner to indicate a torch, perhaps. Colored paper clips may work too but they'll get list and broken over time. Markers are IMO better. Which means a very light background if not white is my preference. Dark backgrounds would prevent using markers. As for stand colors a mix could be cool. One fight the blue base is the boss, another the green base. Flexibility means the pcs never can tell what is which until they find out the fun way!

      Background colour - light grey. Not as stark as white but still light enough not to see text you write on it.

      Backs - hadn't thought about this not sure. I would like art of a back and maybe if this was well over target that would have been possible, but I guess not at this point. Can you show a comparison sample of each.

      Stands - with only 12 I definately want a few more so would not mind if a mix of colours, but hose only getting twelve may not like having too many the same. Black is a good colour. Probably the best is actually a smokey translucent grey, this actually looks much bette that totally clear which is quite start similar to a white background on the cards. As for more colours, a dark stoney grey, grassy green (not too bright, more muddy grass) and a dirt couloared base may be good alternate colours.

      I am glad to see you are still pushing ahead and really hope this works out but at only 40% funding I am stading to think we may not actually get these.

      For the 4e crowd, how about condition markers? I envision something like colored paper clips that would be attached to the card {which I could probably do with just a package of ..well, colored paper clips.}

      A torch icon would be useful and make it easier to recall who has light sources :)

      .. oh, for the flip side of the card, have a skeletal outline so when the monster dies you can lay it flat on the battle field! :)
