United Kingdom, here we come!
We've raised the money hit the UK but every bit you can donate in the last little bit will help, we'll be driving down the east coast to save some money, crashing on couches, the whole bit! This trip would allow us to record a whole new set of amazing interviews to capture a flavor of what is cartooning across the pond. Just like the LA and NYC trips, we will do a live Inkstuds recording in front of an audience and a plethora of both audio and video interviews. This trip will be all killer and no filler! We will see if we can find enough sequins for the following outfits:
And now back to the regular scheduled story!
Over the course of many years, both through CITR Radio and through his website Inkstuds, Robin McConnell has had the privilege of interviewing an innumerable amount of cartoonists spanning all walks of life, from all around the globe. In that time, the Inkstuds Show has played host to cartoonists of all stripes: from the young bucks and surrealist cartoonists others are afraid to interview; to the forgotten rogues of comics whose work has helped build the established present of the medium--Inkstuds Radio has provided a meaningful historical record of the comics medium, not just as it is, but how it was, and in doing so, like all historical records, helps shape how it can be.
Recently Inkstuds Radio passed its 500th episode, and in celebration of this event, Robin has decided to expand upon the already deep archive of content that the show has produced by creating a live recording of Inkstuds in Los Angeles as a component of a larger tour of the comic creators of the area. Robin will be joined on this tour by Comics-Maker Brandon Graham. Brandon Graham is a Seattle-cum-Vancouver based cartoonist whose body of work includes such comics as Multiple Warheads, King City, Prophet, and the recently announced 8House comics line through Image Comics.
Robin and Brandon will be interviewing a panel of prestigious cartoonists!
Besides the live Inkstuds recording, Brandon and Robin will be recording a series of both audio and video interviews with various cartoonists in the LA and NY area. These exciting guests will be announced over the course of the campaign. But long time listeners of Inkstuds Radio should have an idea as to the exciting names to be announced in the coming months. There is also a signing in San Francisco scheduled at Mission Comics.
The tour will be documented in podcasts, videos, and perhaps most importantly a Tour SketchBook. The Tour SketchBook will feature drawings from Brandon describing the journey accompanied by notes, and photos from Robin. This exciting travelogue book is only available through the Kickstarter campaign.
Additional rewards for supporting this campaign included the unique chance to get signed books from Brandon Graham. Besides, books from Brandon's catalog (Walrus, King City, Multiple Warheads, Prophet, Meat Haus, and Robin's Inkstuds Book).
Beyond those rewards are the exciting assortment of t-shirts, prints, and drawings from Brandon Graham that make up the rest of the available rewards for this project. Here's the shirt, just imagine how good it will look on you!
But really the reward is to help contribute to a meaningful historical archive of comics history. The internet will probably be around for forever, but the people who have helped make the comics medium what it is, won't always be. And supporting this tour helps contribute to a greater documentation of these exciting creators who have built the foundations upon which future generations of comic's creators will exist. The value of something like Inkstuds Radio has always been in it's role as an archive of creators and voices that history may not have otherwise recorded. By supporting this tour, you are directly contributing to documents that will conceivably live on forever--and for some of these artists, may prove to be the definitive historical document of their lives. And with Inkstuds Radio you have a proven pedigree at creating these documents. By contributing to this project you are helping to make history.
Risks and challenges
We have a great list of cartoonists for the panel and will update their names during the project as well as the date nailed down. You won't be disappointed. We have the project budgeted very carefully to cover the costs of the rewards, shipping and the actual trip itself.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
