$7,000 - Everyone who backed at the "No Frills!" level ($35) AND above will receive an acrylic charm set consisting of Lovelyapple, Lumpapple and Crabapple! (This level of funding allows me to make 500 crabs instead of the original project goal of 250.)
BONUS ROUND! The Squiddiest of Stretch Goals
$12,500 - The first 250 people who backed at the "CRAB GRAB BAG" level ($65) AND above will ALSO receive a brand spankin' new IKA plush in an exciting navy blue x aqua colorway! Two plush for the price of one?! YES! WOOHOO! (This level of funding allows me to make 500 crabs PLUS a big ol' run of blue IKA plush.)
What is Crabapple?
Once the loveliest of apples, a perilous journey turned him into a cranky crustacean with a squishy heart.
Our goal amount will allow us to proceed with the creation of 250 of these cutie patootie crabs, US shipping and other backer awards. If we exceed our goal, more crabs for everyone!
Hi Kickstarter! I'm Shelly Rodriguez, owner of inki-Jinx, a character goods brand. I'm based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and have been working towards my goal of becoming an independent designer since late 2008. I work as a game artist full-time so working on inki-Jinx is a luxury but I enjoy every minute I can find to come up with fun new creations.
A lot has changed since I started in 2008. Kickstarter wasn't even around then! My first toy design was "Ika", an orange and blue squid, released in early 2009. I funded him through a combination of preorders and money from my own pocket.
He was extremely well received everywhere he went, and I finally sold my last one to a wonderful fan at a convention last summer.
Unfortunately, I am unable to finance this venture in the same way again. Costs of producing a toy have almost tripled since I last had one made. For instance, the cost of my Ika prototype was $250. The prototype I had made for Crabapple cost $600!
Even before the last Ika found a new home, I thought... what will I make next? While I loved the squid plush, I decided it was time to come up with something new. My newest tee shirt design, Crabapple, was met with great acclaim from fans old and new, so the idea for my next plush kind of created himself!
Risks and challenges
I have 4+ years dedicated experience with creation of products (from prototype through to final) and order fulfillment. Since the prototype plush and other backer reward designs are already complete, all that remains on the production end of the project is to send the order to the plush company I work with to send the printed goods designs to their respective printers. Then of course getting the goodies to you as fast as I can! Delays in production or shipping will be reported immediately to the kickstarter group.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
