Update 13/12/16: The audiobook is happening! Thank you all so much! Our second stretch goal is up and running: we're donating up to 30 places on a short-story writing course to underrepresented young writers! Find out more here!
Update 9/12/16: We are currently working towards our first stretch goal, which will be funded at £4,500! We want to have the anthology produced as an audiobook! You can read about it here!
WARRIOR is a short-story collection consisting of 12 science-fiction and fantasy stories. They all feature exciting plots, dangerous monsters, unexpected twists and – above all else – fierce heroes.
These heroes all happen to identify within the LGBTQIA spectrum, but that is not the main focus of their stories. It's simply part of their lives and personalities – just like it is in real life.
Why is this book important?
It is hard to grow up with questions about your identity and part of the challenge is struggling to find heroes that are "just like you".
We believe that all children, teenagers and young adults deserve to find characters they can identify with. This is our first anthology, and presents LGBTQIA-identifying characters.
But I'm not a young LGBTQIA person, nor do I know anyone who is…?
Then help us spread the book to those who need it!
Besides, reading about characters that are different from ourselves helps us develop empathy and understanding. We hope to spread this book to as many schools, libraries and organisations as possible – not only for those who identify as LGBTQIA themselves, but also for those who are their allies, partners, friends and family.
Who are the authors?
We are lucky enough to present you with stories by: Claudie Arseneault, Kayla Bashe, Natalie Cannon, Tyler Gates, Kelly Matsuura, Tash McAdam, Kirstie Olley, Lewis Rees, Helle Reiersen, Abigail Rosenhart, B R Sanders, E H Timms. Some of them are seasoned veterans, while others are making their debuts in this anthology. We are excited to share them all with you!
Throughout the campaign, you will find author interviews, tidbits and teasers on our website www.inkandlocket.com
Who are we?
Ink & Locket Press is a small publishing house, running mostly on volunteerism, idealism, love and caffeine. We do not work for profit: all our funds are circled back into the distribution of our books and the funding of new projects.
How will you spend the money raised here?
Most of your money will go towards the printing and shipping of books and rewards, paying the authors for their stories, and compensating the editor and artists for (some of) their time. We also pay our volunteers in copies of our books.
Whatever is left will be used to donate more books and fund the beginnings of new, exciting heroes.
Are there any stretch goals?
Yes! We are currently working towards our stretch goal #1: WARRIOR aloud. We want to have the anthology produced as an audiobook! This stretch goal will be funded at £4,500. You can read all about it here.
Risks and challenges
There are a couple of risks and challenges involved in this campaign:
1. Should we not meet our £3,000 goal, we will not be able to produce the book as specified.
2. Should the campaign go exceedingly well, we may not be able to fulfill all the backer rewards in January. We will do our ding dong darnedest, but we're only human – and all volunteers.
3. Should the campaign be fulfilled exclusively by 'Saint Warrior the Generous' perks, we will not be able to pay our authors! Our editor and artists are willing to forfeit their payment in such an eventuality, but we would have to cut 10 books off each bundle to be able to pay our authors the minimum agreed fee. In other words: if no other perks are sold than the 'Saint Warrior the Generous' perk, this bundle includes 90 books, not 100.
4. We aim to ship the special-edition hardcover in early February, but as this is produced by a different printer than the paperback, some delays may arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
