Thank you all SO very much!! We made it and the press has its ticket to South Florida! This press will make such a huge difference in the shop and will be a great asset to any artists who are looking for a place to make prints in South Florida. I hope to have it up and running for artists to use by November 4th!
Please join IS Projects on October 25th from 6pm-11pm for the Praga Welcome Party! Hello! My name is Ingrid Schindall and I need your help to get an etching press for my communal print studio, IS Projects, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida!
I have spent the last 6 months acquiring printing equipment and moving from Baltimore, MD to South Florida in order to open a communal printmaking and book arts studio called IS Projects. It will be the only one of its kind in south Florida that is not attached to an institution. Printmaking equipment (presses, inks, rollers, etc.) is expensive which means that most artists and art students learn how to print while taking classes but then have no place to practice once its over.
The mission of IS Projects is to provide equipment, training, and a supportive working environment for all artists who wish to work in book, paper, or print media. The studio will be accessible through affordable workshops, hourly rentals, memberships, as well as private commissioned assistance for artists working on specific projects.
All of the equipment is now safe in the IS Projects studio in the FATVillage Arts District in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The letterpress equipment is up and running. The studio doors will open to the public on September 27th from 6pm-10pm in conjunction with the FAT Village Artwalk.
Current Studio Equipment
Vandercook SP15 Proof Press, two 5x8 Kelsey Excelsior table top presses, 6x10" Craftsmen Imperial Press, loads of lead type, some wood type, 44" Board Shear, Challenge Paper Guillotine, Belt-Powered Leather Skiver, cast iron book press, one-hole paper drill, corner rounder, pamphlet stapler, and several large flat files that will be available for monthly rental
I need your help!
This Kickstarter campaign will cover a beautiful Praga 3'x6" etching press ($4200) with delivery ($1,000) that will be available for artists to use! It will also cover felt blankets, a pair of brayers and some high quality ink, all very necessary for making fine art prints. ($1000)
Here's the best part, prizes! Each prize is a unique way for me to thank you for helping to get IS Projects started. The prizes fall into four basic categories:
Prints and books made by me for you
Custom Letterpress printing:
Who doesn't want fancy new business cards, calling cards or coasters? This reward is a great way to support a new, woman-owned, small business. I would love to work with you!
Opportunities for you to get your hands inky in workshops at IS Projects:
Come on in and see what its all about. We can make books and posters, eat sandwiches, and learn about the history of the craft.

This studio isn't only for me, its a resource for anyone who would like to spend time using their hands and my beautiful antique equipment to make the art they want to make. If you are a fellow South Floridian with a love of printmaking or book arts I would love to have you in the studio making art along side me.
A Little About Me
I am a south Florida based artist and the owner and operator of Nocturnal Press, a small bindery producing high quality blank journals. I received my BFA in printmaking from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2012, where I learned the art of letterpress, fine art relief printing, and book arts. I have honed my craft around the world, taking classes in Fabriano, Italy, a residency in Puebla and Oaxaca, Mexico. Then in early 2013 I was taken in as a junior printer at David Krut Projects in Johannesburg, South Africa. There, I improved upon my collaborative skills while working with many well known artists on etching and relief prints as well as a special pop up book project. I'm so excited to get IS Projects up and running. My dream is for it to be a major player in the future of printed matter as a world class book arts center and fine art print studio.
Risks and challenges
Starting a new business comes with many, many challenges. I have leaped several of the hurdles already and I hope to continue to build on what I have accomplished already.
My main challenge will be making the rewards and getting them sent out in a timely manner while running and promoting the studio. Because of this, I have set the rewards delivery dates to October and November of this year to give me enough time to get everything together once the studio is up and running.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
