UPDATE #1 (Finished Leash Links and new videos!)
Hey all I wanted to share a bunch of photos and a couple videos of the awesome looking finished Leash Links I received today.
Here are what the finishes are:
Go vote for your favorite design on the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheLeashLink
I recorded a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure!
(It won't let me embed them for some reason...)
Let me know what you think and thanks for checking out my project!
The Leash Link was born while walking our two dogs who aren't always on the same wavelength. One thinks that something over here smells good while the other just wants to nibble the grass that's way over there. And there's me, stuck in the middle getting wrapped up like a mummy.
To get them to walk together we tried using store bought couplers. They extended one leash out to two clasps but we soon realized we had to carry around another leash for when it was lounging time. Once their own leases were back on we had a coupler to carry around.
There had to be a better way...
A perfectly sized piece of 304 stainless steel that will hold your leashes together when you need it to, be durable enough to last a lifetime, and cling to a single leash when you and your pooch are flying solo.
Many designs came about.
They all boiled down to one style that is easy to use, captures the leash from left to right, and won't allow the leashes to be pulled through it.
One style with three designs...
I asked people which they liked and the majority of them said "All of them." So that was helpful.
Now you can decide.
The project needs you!
Besides finalizing the design. I need you, dear reader, to print out the flyer on the facebook page. Go to your local pet supply store, shelter, or grocery store, and post that flyer (with their permission) on their bulletin board.
Take a photo of yourself with your freshly tacked handiwork and send it to me. I'll post them on the site and facebook page.
If you back my project and send me this photo I'll send you a Bonus Small Leash Link along with your current pledge level! (Upon the project being funded of course.)
Every dog has a Leash
...but not every leash is the same size...
I learned a lot about leashes during the course of this project. Come to find out not everyone uses 1" wide leashes like we do! After scouring the internet and local pet stores I found four general sizes: .5", .625", .75", and 1"
To accommodate these other sizes a small version came about. Each design version you see above also has a smaller counterpart.
.5" and .625" will work with the Small Leash Link.
.75" and 1" will work with the Large Leash Link.
Even the post-walk cool down with your pooches is covered.
Both sizes of Leash Link will pop the top off of your favorite bottled beverage!
The manufacturer's lasers are humming with anticipation. The finisher's tumblers are ready to rock and roll and put a nice round corner all over these babies. The laser etchers can barely contain themselves, I'm told.
I will start shipping Leash Links as soon as they're ready.
Each Leash Link will ship with a Stainless Steel Ball Chain (so you can attach it to anything other than leashes) and a Stainless Steel split ring just in case you want to put the small one on your keys and be awesome.
What I'm doing now
- Awaiting sample run to return from the finishers
- Testing the design daily
- Spreading the word
With the funding I will
- Create a company and get UPCs
- Create some inventory
- Create a packaging solution for stores
- Produce and run a web store
- Market The Leash Link to pet stores
I have a few shots of the final designs before they get sent off to the finisher:
Of course nothing is final. I will take any and all suggestions to heart during the course of this campaign. If you have a suggestion, I want to hear it!

Risks and challenges
No project would be complete without a setback or two. From things getting lost in the mail to setbacks at the manufacturer to having to replace your tongue after licking 1000 envelopes.
I'm a product engineer as an occupation and deal with these hurdles every day. I'm well versed in how long every process can take and in what order to take them. With just a few more steps, I will take this from idea to shipping a finished product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
