RPG coasters have classic fantasy class icons and names carved into hardwood. These coasters, or drink enhancers, are made for you and your whole rag-tag party of do-gooders and ne'er-do-wells. They complete any gaming space by making sure that surfaces stay in tip-top shape and our significant others remain free from drink-ring induced stress.
Materials & Creation:
After rigorous testing and making a whole lot of sawdust, I'll be offering these coasters in Cherry, Maple and Walnut. I had the best and most consistent results with these woods out of the many that I tried.
All of the artwork is hand drawn by Daniel Warrens. Check out his stuff over at http://danwarrenart.blogspot.com/ Once we work through some rough drafts, the final artwork gets programmed by me and cut out on the router.
Everything will be cut by me on my home-made CNC router in my basement. To ensure the highest quality, no coasters will ever be outsourced.
The coasters are soaked in a polymerizing oil, then a bit of thin polyurethane and finally a clear coat of spray lacquer. I tried many different finishes with varying results and found this combo to withstand the rigors of my adventuring party.
To keep them quiet and give them a bit of cushion, 1/16" die cut felt is adhered to the bottom.
The main funding is for a professional CNC software package. I currently have the basic version which is what I'm using but upgrading would allow me to do so much more!
These stretch goals will be available for folks that back at the $20, $60 or $80 levels.
Unlocked Stretch Goal Art Progress
I'm currently producing the basic set and those will start shipping as soon as the kickstarter is finished. The stretch goal classes will take a bit longer as they have to be drawn and then programmed. This isn't my full time gig (though I wouldn't mind that!) but I'm expecting to get at least two classes done a week following the kickstarter.
The rewards are all set to a specific quantity because that is what I'm predicting I can make in that given time frame. I will be adding more coasters with later delivery dates as(if) they sell out. The dates are just estimates and I will more than likely be shipping out product earlier than expected.
Risks and challenges
I've been manufacturing other peoples products for about 10 years now and I'm ready to make my own.
Hurdles always crop up. I've made about 30 sets of these so far and have worked through many kinks and streamlined the process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
