Greetings from China!
Hello everyone! I am in China and thought I’d give you a quick update about that. It isn’t really related to the game, but it might be interesting.
Firstly, the travel was pretty brutal. I had a connection in Hong Kong, so it was a loooonnngg day on Friday when I came over. Because of my insomnia, I can’t sleep on planes. (Even if I take my sleeping medicine, it doesn’t really work) I usually stay awake for the entire travel time and try to go to bed at a time that makes sense in the new time zone. This helps remove some of the effects of jet lag, but is very difficult. I was awake for something like 27 hours straight. Ouch!
Long flights are a bit of a challenge emotionally (especially when I travel alone) because I am essentially left to my own thoughts… When you suffer from mental illness, your thoughts can be your worst enemy. :-/ I don’t think being physically and mentally exhausted from staying up so long helps my mood either. After sleeping, I do feel much better.
I took a cab from the airport to my hotel, and it was TERRIFYING! There were no buckles for the seat belts in the back, so I couldn’t use it. The cab driver drove REALLY fast and was using his phone while barreling down the highway at ludicrous speeds. Fortunately, I made it to the hotel unscathed.
Yesterday, I met up with Daniel Sass, programmer on Neverending Nightmares, who is visiting Shanghai now as well. (He lives in Taiwan), so even though we work together, we don’t get to see each other that often. We toured Shanghai, ate good food, and caught up. It was really nice!
I have to run soon since we are going to see some more cool stuff today, but I just wanted to give a quick update about what I’ve been up to.
As always, thanks for your support! We’ve reached $40k, which is really excellent. We still have quite a ways to go (and I’m getting quite nervous), but I think it’s still possible for us to meet our goal. Please help spread the word!
Also, I’m planning to do a reddit AMA this coming Friday (Sept 20th) at 3pm Eastern. If you are available then, it’d be great to have your participation. I’d be happy to answer your questions.
