The Maya Project Art-e-Book tells the story of the contemporary Maya people through photography, paintings, films, music and words. Maya artists are the main contributors. Their work is supported by other artists and writers from Latin America and elsewhere.
This Art-e-Book graphically illustrates the lives of the Maya, who are the largest population of Native Americans. There are, at least, 7 million Maya living in southern Mexico, Central America and as migrants in other parts of the world. Despite their numbers, they are often ‘invisible’ because they are poor and are working at jobs that no one else will do. However, this is a hopeful Art-e-Book. It provides the opportunity for a rebirth of Maya wisdom, values and knowledge that gives life to their history, art, music and culture.
This Art-e-Book gives voice to the Maya and permits them to have a stronger global presence and impact! #spreadthehope
This project is organized in three phases:
Phase 1 (3 months): categorization of visual images (stills and moving), audio, text and any other information required for the Art-e-Book. We are already in possession of the materials.
Phase 2 (approximately 6 weeks): migration of the materials onto the ebook format.
Phase 3 (approximately 2 months): preparation of educational packages to be distributed to schools, cultural/educational associations and other organizations. Planning of 3D exhibitions that will complement the itinerant exhibition of The Maya Project.
What happens if we raise more than £15,000?
The Maya Project aims to produce as many exhibitions as possible, worldwide. Any extra money we raise will be used to open more exhibitions and to curate the new artistic materials that we receive on a regular basis. The ebook will also be updated regularly. The more money we raise the more we can do in terms of curating the materials and exhibit them. Donors will be very welcome to keep track of what we do by visiting the website of the Maya Project. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
The Maya Project has approached this e-publication systematically and professionally. We are committed to a high quality product which will benefit the Maya and will set new standards in the production of ebooks and resources. We already own the copyright of the materials. The risks of this project are minimal because we are already in possession of all the materials and we have all the staff in place ready to start working. We just need the funding to achieve final publication.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
