About this project
Working Title: Blank Canvas
"Your story grabbed my attention right away. It's easy to feel sympathy for both main characters, and hatred for the villain. The 'twist' is very clever. Should not make anyone regret spending their money on it."
-A published author's critique of my plot and first 5 revised chapters.
The story is about a young boy who loses his mother in an traumatic accident and has no locatable father or relatives to take him in, so he's sent off to a state funded facility for damaged kids. It's discovered by the staff and others that this boy has a very unique ability that has the potential of being very profitable. A janitor at the facility, who has befriended the boy, sees the boy's well-being under attack and vows to protect him, even if it means kidnapping him from the facility himself. It's a fast pace thriller full of twist and turns as adults fight over an innocent little boy for their own monetary gain.
The word count for my rough draft is slightly over 60,000 words and 25 chapters in length. I've been working on revising the story (currently at chapter 6) with a professional writing coach that's not only editing it but showing me where and how to improve it, to make it more marketable and give it a better chance of success. As the draft sits, it needs a lot of work before a publisher will pick up the story because it's on the shorter end and isn't grammatically sound...but my goal is to bring this story up to its highest potential.
I think the story is awesome and I am confident that if I can have the continued support of my writing coach that knows the industry, has a track record of success, and can continue to show me the ropes in terms of transforming my story into what the publishers want, I'll have no problems getting it published.
The final story should be between 80,000-100,000 words in length, rated as teen or adult fiction and categorized in the thriller genre. If all goes as scheduled, my final manuscript should be complete and ready to mail off to publishing houses at the beginner of 2013, at which point I'd liked to reserve 1-year to try and get my story official published by a publishing house. Doing the math, that brings my estimated delivery date for all book based rewards to the 1st quarter of 2014 (If this estimate changes for any reason I will contact all backers and explain why and provide a new estimate date).
Any assistance would be great and once it's published I'll be happy to give you a copy of the book if you support me with $15.00 or more. Consider this a PRE-ORDER.
$900.00-$1,800.00 is the average price it cost to hire an editor based off of word count and price per words (usually averaging between 1.5 cents - 3 cents per word). I picked the pledge amount of $1,200.00 because several weeks ago I began funding my writing coach and that's the total remaining amount it would cost me to have their continued support throughout the remainder of the project.
$1,800.00-$12,000.00 will be reserved for self-publishing the eBook (digital copy) on websites like Amazon, Barnes And Noble and iBookstore if I am unable to get my novel picked up by a publishing house after it's been professional edited/revised and I can't think of anymore improvements to make. Posting eBooks on these sites are usually fairly easy and inexpensive, but I'd still need to copyright the novel, obtain an ISBN#, have it properly formatted to work on various mobile devices, create a professional digital book cover, and of course marketing the novel online.
At $12,000.00 I will have enough funds to self-published a hard-copy of the novel if a publishing house does not pick up my novel after it's been professional edited/revised and I can't think of anymore improvements to make.
Anything ABOVE $12,000.00 will go towards marketing the novel.
Follow me on twitter to get live updates about my story's progress and it's publication status once I start mailing it off to publishing houses.
Disclaimer: Worst case scenario, all backers of $15.00 or more will receive a PDF version of my story in their email, assuming I raise the $1,200.00 goal to keep my writing coach/editor and my novel is still unable to get picked up by a publishing house AND I don't raise the additional funds to self-publish either an official digital copy or hard-copy.
