Additionally, pledge your support to help us unlock STRETCH GOALS like: additional Legacy and Labor cards to hire, more Trials to endure, component upgrades, and more! Every copy of Savage Planet: The Fate of Fantos will include all unlocked stretch goals from this Kickstarter campaign.
**Full views of the Stretch Goals will be sent in Updates as they are unlocked, so watch your inbox for details!**
Shipping fees are automatically added to your pledge amount depending on the country in which you reside. This Kickstarter campaign is open to all countries, however, we will be fulfilling directly from locations within the US, Canada, the EU (including the UK, but not including Norway or Switzerland), and Australia/New Zealand. This means that, if you reside in any of these regions, import customs/duties/taxes will be paid by us. Additionally, we have subsidized the cost of shipping for ALL locations!
IMPORTANT: If your reward is shipped anywhere outside the United States, Canada, the European Union, the UK, or Australia/New Zealand, please be aware that you may owe import customs/duties/taxes to your government upon receipt of the shipment. Check with your local postal office to determine the amount that may be owed, if any, based on your pledge amount.
Gameplay overview and prototype preview from the knowledgeable guys over at Man VS Meeple:
Review from the Undead Viking:
*NOTE: These videos were shot using a PROTOTYPE version of the game. As such, the cards are in protective sleeves (without back-of-card art that will be used in the final version), the Fantos Die is stickered (in the final version, it will be custom colored and pipped), and the Shards are generic acrylic gems found at a hobby store (in the final version they will be heavy cardboard punch-outs...or will they? Let's hit some stretch goals!).
We have been working on and playtesting the game for over 2 years! Here's what some of the people who have played the game have to say about their experiences with Savage Planet: The Fate of Fantos:
Savage Planet: the Fates of Fantos is a tableau building card game with competitive and co-operative elements for 3-6 players.
Each player takes on the role of a unique Citadel (city-state) of Fantos.
To protect and enrich themselves and win favor from Zodraz, the Citadels must hire managers (called Legacies) from the six races of Fantos, using Iridium shards from their Citadel's stockpile.
Once hired, a Legacy can be tasked to Harvest more Shards, go to War with a neighboring Citadel, or be nominated a Tribute of Fantos.
A Legacy may also play Labor cards from the player's hand using its own shard currency. The Labor cards can either help the player's Citadel or Legacy, or target others.
Every time a Citadel chooses to Harvest from the planet's Iridium Trove, it contributes further to the environmental pollution of Fantos. Zodraz's punishment for this is forcing the Harvesting Citadel to draw a new card from the Trials Deck for each Legacy that was sent to Harvest. Life on Fantos becomes increasingly difficult as new challenges rain down from the stars and force dissent and diplomacy between the Citadels.
Resolve the trials together as a planet, or watch as rival Citadels struggle to survive (but beware of retaliation!). Plan wisely, and make every turn matter, because Zodraz himself is lurking among the Trials.
When the Cosmic Warden is drawn, judgment is passed (scores are tallied), and the game is over. The most worthy among the Citadels becomes the new Warden of Fantos.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Rule Book IS NOT FINAL (this is our playtesting version), however it is very close. It will continue to be tweaked up until files are sent to the printer after the Kickstarter ends, especially with any questions that arise during the campaign, so please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions for it!
Thanks to those who have helped troubleshoot it in the comments and messages so far - rest assured that we have made note of your questions and suggestions!
HARVESTING & TRIALS CARDS
WINNING THE GAME
Want to try it out? Check out all our downloadable and digital Savage Planet: The Fate of Fantos content so you can see for yourself how the game plays! As you are playing, please keep in mind that some cards and the rulebook are not 100% final yet (these are the playtest versions). If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please ask us! (Thanks to those who have helped troubleshoot cards in the comments and messages so far - rest assured that we have made note of your questions and suggestions!)
A typical game lasts from 45 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on number of players and familiarity with the setup/gameplay. (If you'd like to play a shorter/demo game with the Print-and-Play, simply make the Trials deck smaller by starting with less cards in it.)
And, while it is *possible* to play the game with 2 people, it is definitely not as fun that way! The interactions are much more varied and exciting with at least 3 at the table.
Every character in the game has a story. Our intention, should we reach success with The Fate of Fantos, is to continue the story into more games and other media. Here is a little backstory about the Fantosian Races:
The six races of Fantos have been living together on the planet for eons. Originally, they stuck to their own kind, but, as centuries passed, they intermingled and formed mixed-race Citadels and alliances. Some, called the Legacies, have made themselves indispensable to the running of a Citadel by putting themselves up for hire. Scroll down for a summary of each race, and read more about them in the Introduction to Fantos design log on our website!
For millennia, The Feral, the planets indigenous race, existed in peace with Fantos. Iridium was mined out of necessity, not greed. When the Tempest opened and introduced The Cult to the planet, these newcomers saw weakness and opportunity. Shirazad, the young queen of Fantos, sent her Vizier to broker an uneasy alliance with The Cult. Driven by greed and power, the Vizier betrayed his people, selling them to The Cult as Iridium-mining slaves. Over time, a deadly gas from the Iridium Fields blanketed the Feral Citadel. Those that survived faced horrible deformities and mutations. Shirazad, long thought dead, spent years in hiding to recruit and train her rebellion. Now, with Fantos in peril, she has returned to free her people from their Cult oppressors.
The Enlightened do not know where they come from, nor do they know why they are living on Fantos. They have no memory of their past. What they do know is that they are not of the living or the dead. They are androids, and they wish to find their creator. They are constantly searching for clues to their origin and believe there is a clue to it buried somewhere in the native Fantos history.
The Cult are clever reptilian creatures from another dimension. They came to the Savage Planet through a swirling whirlpool called the Tempest that has created a one way portal from their world to Fantos. When they entered the portal they believed they were transcending, and when they came out they were reborn. Now they worship the Tempest and require all the iridium Fantos has in order to share the glory with all.
The Hollow are gaseous Iridium vampires who travel the cosmos sucking up Iridium gas wherever they may find it. When they discovered the dying Fantos, they made a home in the northern ice mazes. Most do not care for The Hollow; they find them to be parasitic and untrustworthy.
The Marked are a powerful race from a nearby planet. They did not come to Fantos by choice, but were kidnapped, branded, shackled, and enslaved by The Cult. The Cult’s plan was to have them work the Iridium fields for them, but on the journey back to Fantos, The Marked broke free and overtook The Cult's ship. Not knowing how to pilot the ship, The Marked crashed into mountainous forest area of Fantos and have made their home there.
The Overseers are protectors of the cosmos and are in service to the Cosmic Warden, Zodraz. Not much is known about them, but it is believed they were carved by Zodraz from the most pure Iridium in all existence and were then brought to life using the power harnessed from 1,000 black holes. Granted extraordinary abilities such as flight and telekinesis, all of the Overseers possess unique abilities that range from weather control to telepathy.
Stay tuned for more backstory to come...
MANUFACTURING: As our manufacturer of choice, WinGo Industry Ltd. has proven themselves worthy many times over. We're not sure there is another manufacturer out there who is so responsive and communicative to small game publishers!
FULFILLMENT: Otherwise known as the fulfillment arm of CoolStuffInc.com, Quartermaster Logistics will be taking care of shipping and fulfillment for the games. We estimate that the games should begin shipping in December 2017, and the good folks at QML have assured us that they will take great care of them (and you).
We'd like to give a VERY special thanks to the Indie Game Alliance and all that they do for small game makers like us. From their presence at conventions that we are unable to attend, to their support of the community in general, this is one great group of people. Get involved if you can!
HUGE thanks to our many and varied playtesters across the country, most especially: Spencer, Dave, Tom, Shua, Michael, Frank, Stephen, Nicholas, Joe, Ben, Chris, Dan, Jeff, JP, Joel, Mike, and Melissa, for the extra time and valuable input you all gave so freely.
Thanks to our family and friends for putting up with our nonsense and not thinking we are (too) crazy for spending our free time creating a world of dark fantasy in which to play!
Thanks to Nathan for helping with the main video music and for his enthusiasm. Check out his musical offerings at Madsen Studios, LLC!
Thanks to Rick for the video voice over work and for being very quick and professional. He's available for hire as "heresricky" at Fiverr.
Extra thanks to Ryan, the Imp House consigliere. You're always there when we need you.
Tabletopia is simply the best tabletop game sim engine out there! Amazing developer tech support and free-to-play options has made our playtesting lives a bit easier over the past 18 months in development on this game. So many awesome games to demo, so little time...
As a totally independent, boutique, self-distributed, family-run game company, we simply could not introduce any of our game ideas to the wider world without the help of crowdfunding. While we spend our own cash up-front for art, graphic design, prototyping, playtesting, etc, we could never manage to cover the manufacturing, freight, and fulfillment costs without you, our supporters. We value quality components and unique, immersive gaming experiences, and you help us get there. Thank you so much for your trust; we promise that Savage Planet: The Fate of Fantos will exceed your expectations!
We are very confident that you will love this game as much as we do, and we stand by that with a refund period, which begins when your reward is shipped to you and ends 30 days later. If you decide you don't want the game during that time, just let us know, and we will refund your pledge amount, less a 10% restocking fee to cover the Kickstarter and Amazon charge fees.
A NOTE FOR RETAILERS:
We are not currently working with a distributor, but we love providing games directly to FLGSs (friendly local game stores!) at a wholesale discount, after Kickstarter fulfillment is complete. If you would like to support us early and participate in the Kickstarter campaign -- meaning that your games would arrive to you at about the same time as other backer copies -- you may contact us directly for details! (Private message us here on Kickstarter for more information, or email us at email@example.com for the info.)
And...remember to hit that very important "SHARE" button when backing, and leave lots of comments for us here on Kickstarter!
Risks and challenges
Savage Planet: Fate of Fantos will be the second game we have fulfilled via Kickstarter. The first was Chaos of Cthulhu, which was successfully funded in October 2015 and delivered in June 2016, thanks to the help of many happy backers. We learned a lot of important lessons about production and fulfillment during that campaign, and now we're excited to take it up a notch and make this a smooth process for everyone.
We're working again with WinGo Games Manufacturing to print the game, as they proved their quality and commitment beyond a shadow of a doubt during the production of Chaos of Cthulhu. As for shipping and fulfillment, our current plan is to use a tried-and-true fulfillment partner (Quartermaster Logistics, the fulfillment arm of CoolStuffInc.com) who has provided us with shipping quotes and works with fulfillment partners within the EU, Canada, and Australia to make shipping within these regions even smoother (and customs-free for the backers living in those regions!).
You may notice that we are not offering any add-ons or Kickstarter exclusives during the campaign, and all stretch goals unlocked will be included in every box. Since we do not work with a large partner for worldwide distribution, we want to give our backers everything up-front, without making them jump through hoops, or cause confusion with multiple tiers or versions of the game. This also drastically streamlines the manufacturing and fulfillment process, and we all get to have fun playing the game faster, with less stress for everyone involved!
Your trust and support is invaluable to us, and you can be sure that we will be communicating updates in a timely fashion throughout the process!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
