Chaos of Cthulhu is the Necromicon mix-and-match dice battle game designed by Darth Rimmer and produced by Imp House, LLC.

A pantheon of Elder Beings from the mind of H. P. Lovecraft has been unwittingly set loose in the basement of the teenager next door. The catch? The Necronomicon, or Book of the Dead, used to summon the creatures was torn asunder in an argument between the teen and her friends. The stars are definitely not aligned, the essential grimoire has been mended with tape, and the monsters appear as hybrid abominations, eager for the chaos of battle. The tournament to find the strongest amongst them begins...

Take hold of the damaged tome and summon forth a unique Lovecraftian nightmare, mix-and-matched from 6 different Old Ones and Dark Minions. Then clash in strategic dice battle to be the first to assemble a fully matched monster. Part strategy, part luck…all madness!

**There will also be a Player Token included as well, as we've reached the Stretch Goal for it!**

An important note about International shipping:

We welcome pledges from all countries, but please be aware that there may be additional taxes, duties, or tariffs charged by your government upon delivery. We don't know the prices or costs associated with this; please check with your government, but we have tried to offset some of this cost to you by discounting the International shipping charge. Additionally, pledges on Kickstarter are considered "funding of a project in a pre-retail environment," so we can ship the packaged to you with a lower declared value (equal to manufacturing cost), rather than your full pledge amount. This should save everyone a lot on any customs/VAT charges, as most countries have minimum value amounts before any fees kick in!

Rubik's Cube-like Puzzle Fighter - Similar to the famous puzzle cube, you are attempting to rotate the dice in order to match each part of one monster on the same side in order to win. However, as an added challenge, you must overcome an onslaught of attacks by your opponents in order to succeed.

Mutating Monsters - Upon each turn your monster's body parts may rotate and change. Every time this happens, it will change your ability to defend yourself or inflict additional damage on your opponent.

Strategic Simultaneous Combat - All the action takes place simultaneously. You have to out-think and out-strategize your opponents' actions in order to manipulate your dice and theirs to your benefit.

Family Friendly - Many dice games are cut-throat, and some players, especially younger ones, may end up feeling secluded if they are always "taken out" quickly. In Chaos of Cthulhu, every player stays in the game until one monster emerges victorious through a combination of strategy and luck.

Monster Size Dice - Each die measures a monstrous 25mm X 25mm (that's about 1inch X 1inch), a scale worthy of the Great Old Ones.

No two Elder Dice are alike in Chaos of Cthulhu. All 120 die faces are printed with different original art representing the body parts of 24 unique Lovecraftian creatures.

Each player uses a set of 5 unique dice, each representing 5 different body parts from 6 individual monsters. Every set of 5 dice is different.

The Elder Dice body parts will change as they heal and take damage, giving your monster new looks and abilities as the game progresses.

On each side of every die you will find a number and a symbol:

Each set of Elder Dice is uniquely illustrated with the body parts of 24 different horrific characters inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft:

An average game lasts 15-30 minutes but may last longer depending on experience and the roll of the dice. To begin, players roll all 5 of their Elder Dice, then position them in a cross formation on the table above their Player Mats (not on the mats), with the monster’s “head” at the top, the torso in the center, the right and left appendages to each side of the torso, and the bottom under the torso.

Each round begins with every player rolling all 5 of their Summoning Stones (standard D6 dice) at the same time.

Players attempt to match the value of their Stones to the numbers showing on the bottom right corner of their Elder Dice in order to activate the corresponding actions that are defined by the icons on the top left corner.

You may also combine any number of Summoning Stone values to make larger or smaller numbers. (For example: 2 + 3 = 5, so you can combine the two values to activate an Elder Die showing a 5…or, alternatively, 3 - 2 = 1, so you can activate an Elder Die showing a 1.) Any form of 6 is wild! Summoning Stones with a value of 6 can be used to activate ANY Elder Die in that player’s hand.

Players may also choose to use one ore more un-used Summoning Stones for a chance to activate a Bonus Action in addition to their normal actions. Bonus Actions are activated by surrendering an Offering to the Great Old Ones.

After every player has taken a turn declaring their actions, it's time to account for any damage and healing applied to your Elder Dice.

This is done by turning the affected Elder Dice to the next lower or higher numbers*, which changes the possible action scenarios for the next round. Player Mats and Action Tokens are provided to keep track of all actions in play and are re-set at the beginning of every round.

*If an Elder Die is damaged below a 1 or healed above a 6, that die must be re-rolled.

The next round begins by re-rolling all the Summoning Stones and choosing new actions until a winner arises.

Offering Tokens are also provided, composed of different objects players can use to appeal to the Old Ones...the family cat, a taco, a bag of chips, an old gaming console, etc. Wise use of Offerings can both protect your monster and cause damage to your opponents' monsters. But beware, once all your Offerings are sacrificed, you are on your own, with only your wits to guide you!

The game ends immediately in victory for any player who matches all 5 of his Elder Dice to form one whole and complete monster. If this happens, an Old One has been successfully summoned, and the Age of Madness has begun!

Watch a game played:

This game lasted about 25 minutes, so it is edited down a bit. We will also be updating periodically with a few "walkthrough" videos of how each component of the game works.

Promo video shot at SXSW Gaming Expo, March 13-15, 2015:

The fans featured in this video were total strangers to us before the Expo. We love meeting new gamers and welcoming them into the growing Imp House family! Additionally, the games used in these demos are early prototypes; for instance, the final version of the game will include Elder Dice that are nearly twice as large, along with Secrecy Screens and Bonus Play options.

Here’s a link to our current Chaos of Cthulhu Rule Book. IT IS NOT FINAL. Formatting will be cleaned up, and rules are still being tweaked for optimum play, especially if the campaign reaches certain stretch goals. In the meantime, we hope this will answer many of your questions, but feel free to contact us anytime if you have more.

We just think the Mininomicon is SO COOL, and the pages will be customized for this limited Kickstarter edition with art from the game! Read more about the artist, Jack Eggers, in our interview here: http://www.imphouse.com/interview-jack-eggers/

We have also recently added a couple of other perk levels for multiple game (2x, 3x) savings. See the Rewards tiers to the right ------>

All of our Add-Ons are Kickstarter-and-Convention Exclusives - meaning this will be your only chance to grab them, unless you run into us at a convention (and we happen to have some with us). All additional profits raised through Add-On sales will go towards game manufacture! If you choose to add dollar amounts to your original pledge to put toward Add-Ons, we will contact you after the campaign is over, via a post-campaign survey, in which you can tell us the add-ons you've selected in addition to your original pledge.

T-SHIRTS

Screen printed on straight-cut t-shirts. See style selection below. Sizes: Adult Unisex S-XXXL - [see sizing chart here]

Prices include shipping and handling. Add the correct dollar amount for your selection and location to your original pledge:

1 shirt = $25 US, $35 Canada, $40 Rest of the World

3 pack of shirts (one of each style, all the same size) = $65 US, $75 Canada, $80 Rest of the World

**We will contact you via post-campaign survey to determine style and size selections.

 CTHULHU ALTAR

Hand-cast in resin in the USA. Each altar can hold a set of 5 Elder Dice for use during game play, or you can use it to collect Offering Tokens during the game, or you can use it for other games, or for a shrine to the Old Ones, or…the sky’s the limit! Size: approximately 4 inches wide x 1 1/2 inches tall

Prices include shipping and handling. Add the correct dollar amount for your selection and location to your original pledge:

1 Altar = $25 US, $35 Canada, $40 Rest of the World

4 Altar Pack = $70 US, $80 Canada, $85 Rest of the World

Important Note: The original altar was hand-sculpted and all copies will be hand-cast in unpainted resin in California by Darth Rimmer (co-creator of Chaos of Cthulhu). They will not fit in the game box (any size increase to the size and weight of the game box adds significant cost to game production, freight, fulfillment, etc), but each altar will be hand-wrapped and packaged in a sturdy gift box.
[Click here to see more images of the Altar]

Extra Set of Elder Dice

This is the same as our “Just the Dice” reward level, but we are also offering it as an Add-On for those who have pledged at a higher level and want an extra set of the Elder Dice for display purposes. The dice will be shrink-wrapped together (or placed in a plastic bag together) for shipment.

Price includes shipping and handling. Add the correct dollar amount for your location to your original pledge:

1 set of 20 Elder Dice - $25 US, $35 Canada, $40 Rest of the World

We are huge fans of simple, fun, equal-opportunity gaming experiences, so we don’t want to clog up the process by offering too many Kickstarter rewards, which just make for a slower fulfillment time and more opportunities for confusion on all sides. That said, we do have some ideas for additions to the base game...but the simple fact is that we cannot afford to include them unless we can order in MUCH larger quantities than the minimum funding goal will cover. (Please rest assured that, stretch goals or no stretch goals, the base game will be made with very high quality components!)

Please share with your friends, get the word out to your social media networks, and let’s unlock some stretch goals!

And, last, but CERTAINLY not least, our friends and family who have stood by us while we chase our dreams!

We are real people, with real dreams and real lives, and while you probably won't see us in front of the camera much (because they make us very nervous and awkward), please trust that we are here for you with any questions, concerns, comments, or suggestions you may have regarding our game and this Kickstarter campaign. We love games, we love horror, and most of all, we love providing fun experiences that tell unique stories.

So, you may be wondering...other than the mix-and-match game play mechanics and heightened strategy, what separates Chaos of Cthulhu from other dice games, and why should I care?

Simple answer: The Elder Dice themselves. As much pieces of art as pawns in a game, the twenty, 6-sided Elder Dice included in the game will be a monstrous 25mm (approximately 1 inch). They will be high quality, with original art digitally heat transferred onto each side of every die, for a total of 120 completely different die faces per game. Four unique sets of five 6-sided Elder Dice are included in the box, so this means each player has the possibility of rolling 7,776 different monster amalgamations, for a game-wide total of 31,104 possible creature hybrids.

To put it bluntly, this is not cheap. At all. You may notice in some of our videos and photos that our prototype Elder Dice were created from smaller, less expensive dice. The art was tiny and attached by sticker. Also, every player rolled the same sets; there was no variation in art or monster abilities between players. This was perfectly acceptable as a way to play test and make sure the game mechanics really worked the way we intended. (And, boy, did they ever...this game is FUN! One group of play testers in the early phases played it for nearly 3 hours straight and didn't want to stop!)

But, cheaping out on production is not the ideal set-up for a unique, stylized game like ours. No one wants that. However, if we were to work with a large publisher, that is exactly what they would want...cheap components (one even suggested CARDBOARD dice...we nearly passed out from the horror), lower quality graphics, standard packaging, and not as much customization. We say "BOO!" to all of that, and we are pretty confident you do, too.

Chaos of Cthulhu is on Kickstarter because it's the fastest way for us to get a well-produced, quality game into your hands. So far, we've invested our own money in the game design, artwork, prototype printing, and play testing. Now we need help covering costs of the printing, packaging, shipping, and stretch goals.

If you're ready to summon some Great Old Ones and do battle, please back Chaos of Cthulhu (and tell all your friends!) to help us make our game the way it was intended to be made - unique, high quality, and full of insanity!

The more supporters we can get to back the game, the better it will become and the more fun stuff we can put in the box. You can help spread the word by telling all your friends about us and changing your social media avatars, and participating in our Chaos of Cthulhu Facebook Group!

Risks and challenges

If you choose to honor us by backing our game, we will immediately view you as an integral part of the Imp House team. We will send out regular updates, including videos of the game being played by real people in the real world, first looks at the prototyping and art design of the game, polls about final design decisions and stretch goals, and keep you aware of what's going on during all stages of production and fulfillment, should the funding be successful.

One of the most important things to remember about Kickstarter projects (especially creative ones) is that nothing is ever final until it ships! However, we promise not to change anything vital to the game as presented here, and especially not without informing our backers first. Things we can think of that have a high probability of being tweaked up until production begins: small changes to the rules and wording, graphics for the rulebook and box, sizes of Action and Offering tokens, the color/style of the standard D6 dice, etc.

The Imp House team produced its first tabletop game in 2013, called Armageddon Preppin, through a combination of crowdfunding on IndieGoGo and private investment, and successfully brought it to market in under the estimated time. (It is currently available to purchase on Amazon.) We learned a LOT from that experience, and we have also been involved in working with overseas production facilities to help bring toys and collectibles to market in a timely matter, so we believe we have a firm grasp of the production process.

That being said, we realize that every project has potential obstacles, from production delays, to shipping snafus, to customs holdups and other unexpected issues. To help combat this, we have built in some extra time to our fulfillment and delivery estimate. Plus, our manufacturing partner is a veteran of the game manufacturing and shipping process, and has been there for us without fail along the journey thus far. We don't expect that to change once production begins.

One of the biggest challenges for us would be if the game captures a huge audience, and we are inundated with orders. This could slow down the process a bit more than we anticipated, but if this is the case, we will do everything we can to fulfill close to our estimated time frame (Feb 2016)! Our main promise at this point is this: if some unforeseen (and nefarious!) plot arises to stand in the way of fulfillment, we will definitely refund all money received.

We don't like backing Kickstarter campaigns with hundreds of updates sent out over many months of delays, and we are quite sure you don't either. If you choose to back a game project, it means you are excited and want to start playing that game as soon as possible! Which is why we are keeping our Reward tiers very simple and straightforward. This will cut down on delays and confusion for all involved.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us through our website, through Facebook or Twitter, or through the Kickstarter comments.
