Take standing breaks while you work instead of sitting all day, and you’ll be healthier and increase your focus. Studies have proven it. Now everyone can afford it.
The Upsilon Compact Electric Standing Desk brings together ergonomically contoured design with state-of-the-art electric actuator legs, and the latest 3D-lamination technology with twelve color combinations, creating an attractive, reliable, space-efficient workstation, all for $399. The Upsilon will sell for $588 after this campaign concludes, but we've created desk reward levels as low as $375 for our loyal backers on Kickstarter!
iMovR is a successful young upstart "office fitness" company, making popular, but larger, state-of-the-art adjustable-height executive desks and tables that cost up to $2,500 fully-loaded. But not everybody wants a large desk. So we set our engineers to the task of creating an affordable compact desk.
We're thrilled to announce here on Kickstarter that our engineers have cracked the code on this one. We found that by using the latest technology, instead of the cheapest components, we could make our desks so amazing and so inexpensive, that millions of people - every member of the household, and every chair-bound employee - can finally have one.
Intelligent Design Using Advanced Technology
There’s more to sit stand desks than slapping on a thin veneered top on lifting legs, though inexperienced newbies do just that. iMovR’s thoughtful ergonomic design, makes working at your desk for long hours comfortable and enjoyable. Now, even micro-offices and studio apartments can accommodate our compact 48” wide and 24” deep desk.
We have high standards for quality, noise signature, travel speed, stability and height adjustment range. There are some very cheap and flimsy electric desk products on the market, but our extensive experience in standing desk design tells us that their quality leaves a lot to be desired.
Beware of THEIR tech:
- Under-powered motors
- Poorly welded parts
- Shaky frames
- Flimsy powder-coated MDF tabletops with sharp edges
Before long, you’ll have to ditch the desk and buy a new one when it begins to fall apart on you. That's not our style.
Quality: After 18 months of searching throughout the world, we selected the manufacturer that makes high-precision, high-reliability components for the medical industry. It costs a little more for us to have our bases made in this factory, but like our 3D-laminated tabletops, we want to use only the latest technology, not go to some environmentally-hideous, low-bid producer.
Quiet! We proudly publish that our noise signature is less than 41dB (background HVAC noise in a typical office environment is 40-44 dB). There are cheap bases out there with 60 to 75 dB noise signatures we wouldn't want to use in our own offices. How do you know which ones are noisy? They don't publish their noise specs. We do.
No sharp veneer edges and corners to dig into your skin.
Fast adjustments- Our 1.3 inches per second is as fast or faster than desks costing $800 or more.
Stability and Height Adjustment Range: Desk stability is paramount to typing efficiency. The Upsilon is remarkably stable compared to most adjustable-height desks on the market. And it ascends higher than most, exceeding the ANSI/BIFMA government standard for top end height (48") by two inches. Our upsilon desk with a 50" top height, means people up to 6'4" tall can use the desk comfortably. Other desk’s heights top out at 47”. So, if you are over 6’1”, their desk will likely give you carpal tunnel syndrome.
True Craftsmanship in Your Standing Desk
Your choice of fine finishes
Our exclusive 3D lamination stands up far better to scratches, dings and chemicals than cheap veneers or any other lamination technology in use today. Look at our grommet holes and ergonomically contoured edging, and you’ll be impressed with a desktop that looks like it was crafted out of a solid piece of hardwood.
Warranty, Shipping and Delivery Details
Like all iMovR desk products, the Upsilon comes with an exceptional lifetime warranty on the base frame and five year performance warranty on the tabletop. Electronics and moving parts have a two year warranty. Your new Upsilon base and table top are shipped in safe packaging to survive the trip through FedEx's conveyor lines. We ship much larger furniture items all day long, so you don't have to worry about us getting this part right.
We cut a great deal on FedEx Ground rates just for this project, so despite the complete Upsilon desk weighing nearly 100 lbs, the flat rate shipping fee is only $69 per desk anywhere in the continental United States. Buy our two-pack and save an additional $24 per desk. Buying one for the office? Consider getting one for home, too. Or as a gift for your loved ones, to show them how much you care about their health and happiness, too!
Our target ship date for the Upsilon desks is September. Look for firm delivery date updates from us as soon as the containers with the electric bases reach US shores. The FedEx tracking numbers will be emailed to you as soon as your desk leaves our dock.
Your Standing Desk Future Proofed
Should you ever change offices and need a wider or narrower desktop, we've future-proofed the Upsilon base for you. Adjust the telescoping base width to accommodate tabletops from 42" to 60" in length. You can even add wheels if you like.
After the campaign concludes, you'll also be able to add a variety of ergonomic options and accessories like a monitor arm, keyboard tray, cable management system, or our state-of-the-art EcoLast standing mat.
The Upsilon desktop comes pre-drilled for the iMovR Ergonomic Keyboard Tray, to make installation a breeze. (Note: because of the shallow 24" depth of the Upsilon, the keyboard cannot be completely "stowed" as it can on a 30" desk.)
Most any edge-clamp or grommet-mount monitor arm can be used with the desk. See our selection of ThermoDesk monitor arm options.
Extend your standing time and keep your feet happy!
Keep your feet comfy and happy by adding an iMovR EcoLast Anti-Fatigue Standing Mat to get even more use out of your new standing desk. Made of 100% polyurethane, the EcoLast is the top-rated mat for standing desk use, and will last a lifetime. Made in the USA, the EcoLast comes with a five year performance warranty. The beveled edges make it easy to roll a chair onto, and it'll never curl at the edges like cheaper "sandwich" mats. Comes in your choice of black, gray, brown or black.

At the $25 reward level, you'll get to choose between black-on-white or white-on-black, in unisex sizes of S-M-L-XL and XXL.
Upsilon is a better choice than a desktop riser, for the same $$$
Maybe you've seen some of the new desktop riser, like the VariDesk, that are pitched at people who want to stand, but don't have the budget for an adjustable-height, sit-stand desk. For the very same money you can now buy an entire desk, and have a truly ergonomic, attractive and long-lasting workstation. Let's compare the Upsilon to the VariDesk, side-by-side, for example:
Are you sitting down right now?
Ooh... that's not good. Surely you've seen the explosion in media coverage about the scourge of "sitting disease"? The American Medical Association has declared that sitting has overtaken smoking as the new #1 preventable cause of death in this country.
If you haven't already hit the UP button on your standing desk, then you owe it to yourself to at least sit through the rest of this.
Two hundred years ago the average person spent a mere 3 hours per day sitting. In today’s industrialized, computerized, automated society, people commonly sit for 11 hours or more per day. We can go on and on about the many detrimental effects of sitting too long - like low back pain, weight gain, mental and physical fatigue, circulatory problems, and even reduced life expectancy. You've probably experienced some of these symptoms yourself.
Here's a little sitting desk humor to brighten your day.
What would be better - a new desk or a new chair?
Even doctors used to smoke before overwhelming scientific evidence proved it to be a bad idea. Cigarette makers used to use doctors in their advertising, to persuade unwitting consumers into thinking that smoking wasn't bad for their health. Sometimes our society can get things really, really wrong for a really long time.
Case in point: in many companies today, if an employee goes to the HR department and says they suffer from low back pain they automatically (or, at worst, with a doctor's note) get authorization to purchase an $800-$1,200 "ergonomic chair." That's like sending a lung cancer patient a truckload of free cigarettes, with their cardiologist driving the truck. Sitting in a comfy chair will only enable you to sit even longer, which is the worst thing you can do. Sitting less is the only solution. Well, other than swallowing lots of pain killers.
For the cost of one ergonomic chair, you can buy two or three Upsilon desks and still have change left over!
Please help support our mission to relieve as many people as possible from their chair sentences, by spreading the word to everyone you know who works at a computer all day.
Risks and challenges
We're a young company that started making adjustable-height furniture last year, but we've already shipped thousands of them to over 1400 customers - including many Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, educational institutions, small businesses and residential customers - so we have a lot of experience in producing and shipping desk products. And we've already been producing similar products with common components, so there are no unknown technology risks here.
If there's a challenge we'd like to be faced with, of course, it would be in selling so many desks that it might take a little longer for our manufacturers to produce the bases and tops for our promised September delivery date. That may push us out a month or more on deliveries, but we'll be shipping out the earliest backers' orders first.
Of course all Kickstarter campaigns have a risk of not reaching their funding level. In that case, consumers will be able to purchase the same product through our website at the regular $588 price, after the campaign has ended.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
