Anime and manga have never been more popular!
In the past 20 years, thousands of Japanese comics (manga) and animated stories (anime) have attracted millions of fans in the West.
Enthusiastic travelers brought anime and manga back from Japan. Then more friends waited for years as Japanese stories were translated and manufactured into comics, books, movies, TV episodes, and home video. Now anyone can see the latest tales through the internet on computers, tablets, and phones.
But there has never been an English children's picture book about how anime and manga came to be... until now!
So adults and kids get ready! With your help, we'll publish an entertaining (and educational) adventure on how anime and manga were invented! We'll explore how imaginative artists produced iconic characters and extraordinary realms. Together we'll enjoy how their creations changed our world!
Immedium inspires a world of imagination! We have published nearly 50 amazing children's picture books, such as the original series of The Octonauts, which launched the hit animated TV series worldwide.
More than 40% of our titles feature multicultural themes and diverse characters. With the artist Juan Calle, we've had successful Kickstarter campaigns for:
and our new series The Asian Hall of Fame:
Now we have a spectacular sequel to share with you!
The kids Ethan and Emma love learning about fantastic inventions from Asia. Luckily for us, the cute red panda Dao can travel through time and be their guide to The Asian Hall of Fame!
First they teleported to 19th century Japan to learn how ramen was cooked up and became a 21st century culinary phenomenon.
Then they journeyed to ancient China to witness how gunpowder materialized and then produced fireworks, which everyone can enjoy today.
Next they plan to return to the land of the rising sun. There they hope to reveal how artists created manga and anime. From pen and paper to bits and bytes, these art forms would eventually entertain the entire planet!
Here are sneak previews of our story!
Juan's passion for the subject matter shows in his amazing interpretations of series we know and love. Spreads are filled to the brim with a dazzling array of characters. Compositions burst with the energy and action that made us fans in the first place.
Emma and Ethan attend a local Comic Con. The Japanese comics and animation amaze them. Dao appears and offers to show them how these marvelous art forms developed!
Together they teleport back to ancient Japan to the artistic origins of manga and anime...
The trio zips through the centuries to learn how Japanese artists shared their stories in evolving ways.
In the 20th century, they see how comics spread through newspapers to magazines, and animation through film and television.
"Japan's passion for its comic books and animated films has taken hold in the United States." - New York Times

Risks and challenges
Immedium has published nearly 50 wonderful books since 2005, including three successful Kickstarter campaigns. We have consistently produced beautiful picture books that children and adults want to read again and again.
We've sent the final manuscript to Juan Calle who is creating the artwork and Joy Liu-Trujillo is designing the layout.
We're on schedule to deliver a fantastic storybook to you for this holiday season.
"Told through stunning illustrations by Calle, this is a detailed, storied account of the evolution of anime and manga in Japan and eventually around the world... Everyone should read this history book to get a true understanding about the significance of not just anime and manga, but the power of multimodality on how we think and learn."
